Pitchers at Bat: Work Around Him!

I play on HOF with modified sliders. Still fiddling, but CPU P Aggressiveness is down from default, CPU P Control is down from default, CPU Strike Percentage is also down (all about 5 down from default, in other words -5).

Are you seeing what I see?

My good hitters come up, and the pitcher throws strike one, strike two right away. Way too often. Usually fast balls. Even if that's not their number one pitch.

Then the pitcher comes up, and it's ball one, ball two. I see this All The Time, and it makes me wonder what kind of programming is causing this.

pitch control slider maxed would help.

The point of my post .... my theory .... is that the CPU pitcher is programmed to, IN GENERAL, tend to go right after the better hitters, but throw junk off the plate to worse hitters (pitchers).

No matter where you put your slider.

This is confirmed for me, game after game. I play as the Cubs, and Soriano, Lee, Ramirez will usually get a first pitch strike. Pie and the pitcher (the two worst rated hitters in my starting lineup) will much more often gets balls to start the count.

i guess its an aceptable scenario if u think that the AI pitchers are trying to throw junk at your pitchers expectin them to chace since they are bad hitters...so they wont be afraid of get behind in the count..

while agasint good hitters they will try to keep comand of the count so u dont get too confortable with those sluggers.

Yes, that's a plausible strategy ... try to get bad hitters to chase early in the count, while establishing the heat early against good hitters. But not All The Time.

And sometimes it seems like that.

Maybe I take too many first pitches, and the CPU has figured out to get ahead of my good hitters by firing strike one. Scary thought, if the CPU is that smart!

P.S. I am now a "Pro" and not a "Rookie" (500 posts). I feel so special I could burst.

yeh, i dont wacth that many NL games...maybe 2 or 3 giants games a week..but from what i can remember from the top of my head, usually the pitchers dont go after the other pitchers grooving stuff in the zone all the time...

like in the the show 08 i see them trying to make the oposing pitcher swing at junk and ocasionaly look bad lol...
But usually , if its not a sacrifice situation im usually seeing pitchers beeing very patient at the plate(to at least try to make the other pitchers throw as many pitches as possible)
