    A Little More Arcade Please...

Yes I know I'm in the minority and no I don't want to play The Bigs. Last years game had a better flow for me. This year it looks like you sim guys got the game pretty close to greatness, but I want a quick and fun (a little less sim = fun to me)game in a not so sim type of way...does that make sense? Any ways, I have messed with the sliders some and I'm not able to get the game I want. Here is what I want to accomplish and please don't laugh...we are all not sim guys.

    1. Lower pitch count, I just want get through the inning quick. I don't need stats.

    2. Less or no foul balls, this one kills me. I don't want to throw 10+ pitches to a batter with a 0-2 count and have him foul out 10+ times. Dam it man either strike out or run the count to 3-2..let's get this game moving.

Now I have tried moving the pitch count all the way to zero and the pitcher throw strike % all the way to full for the CPU and have not seen the results I want. I have played on rookie and veteran level, should I try allstar? I have broadcast presentations set to few because I do want to see a little bit of the gorgeous graphics. So can anyone help me get out some of these baseball nuisances out of the game? If it helps, I really like 07 and 06 out of the box on default veteran...08 is sure pretty. This is for the PS3 system...thanks!

You are definitely in the minority on this one

Unfortunately I don't know what to tell you. I guess just continue messing with the sliders or maybe play at the easiest difficulty setting. Hopefully you can find a fix for your play style.

I understand what you're saying. Does using the pitch count slider help at all? I like to give the user a choice on this, even if that choice can be less "sim" if that's what the user wants. I can't discuss the future, but these choices are important to me too. We'll do the best we can given our development constraints.

Brian - Thank you and your fellow workers for a GREAT game of baseball. Please do not turn this game toward an arcade style.

I would hope you would increase the stats, extend the box score data and continue to tweak the game for the seasoned baseball fans.

Thanks again for everything! I bought a PS3 just to play The Show. It has been worth every dollar spent.

Blasphemy! In all seriousness I hope you find what you're looking for because it is a great game.

            Bud,

If you see how the game has progressed over the year, it's clear we're trying to develop a sim game of baseball wherever we can. I'm only talking about giving the user alternate settings. I didn't get a lot of time to work on that in the past, and currently the main option is the pitch count slider. Other options include the tip foul slider, etc..

I only work on specific parts of the game, but I hope to see a lot more improvements like this too.

Re: A Little More Arcade Please...

It's kinda funny.....arcade is such a dirty word around here, yet it literally means that more things are in the hands of the user. A lot of the complaining around here stems from the fact that people feel like they don't have enough control over the game. Talk about a catch-22 for developers.

I remember back in the HH days that 3DO included a "simulation slider", and the higher up the bar went, the more control the engine had over the outcome. At full, it was almost as scripted as a game could get, because the user had almost no control - the game was almost entirely stats driven. It wouldn't swing the bat for you or anything like that, but you could swing late and end up pulling a homerun...stuff like that. I always found my best games with that slider left alone - a good mix between my own skill and the stats-driven engine.

I don't really have any point to make, just felt like reminiscing. It's a tough situation for developers, that's for sure.

Wow, I remember the simulation slider.
