Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

Im thinking about giving a try to this sliders but i have a few doughts that maybe some of you can clear it for me.

In MLB The SHOW 08 i played in HOF but in 09 im in currently playing on Vet, i tried AS and HOF but the difficult on default Sliders that i feel is more realistic to me was VET.

I can it the ball well on Vet but im very impatient. Its a war my mind saying to take pitches and my finger always pressing X.

For the ones that made the change to this sliders what was the big diference in gameplay ?

What Level should i play? is Vet on this sliders easier or more difficult then on default?

Sorry for all the questions but i would rather test them in my franchise im curently 32-27 with the Yankees but im looking for a little more realistic if possible gameplay.

I Actually dont dislike the default sliders but ive the feelling by all comments this might be more realistic.

Just try it out and check it out to see how they play for you (at least 20-30 games I would say).

Sliders are COMPLETELY user oriented and preferences to your skill level. It's not a matter of playing more realistically or unrealistic. Same people may find them too hard, others might find them too easy. Some might find them perfect as they are but on Veteran, others might find them perfect as they are but on HoF. You just have to see what your results are. If you're not hitting enough homeruns, maybe raise your Power. If the CPU is getting too many singles, maybe lower their Timing/Contact etc. If everything feels a bit on the easy side (your offense too good, and your pitching too good) maybe go to the next difficulty.

Nobody can really tell you that "yes, they will be perfect for you on Veteran".

If you like the Default and are seeing good results, you might even be better off sticking with them. It's your choice.

Killer, will wind these up and give them a go (3rd crack at a franchise), 1st due to patch, 2nd due to lack of competitiveness by CPU, this better be it...

On another note, I was about 10 games in with injury at 6 on All Star, and had 2 day to day in injuries of a reliver, pinch hit AB, + 1 2-3 week injury of Rickey Weeks. Although I agree 10 is a rather small sample set, 5 may be the way to go.

I use these sliders on VETERAN, with a few small changes. Specifically cpu hitting. Solid hits 5 and power 7 and that did the trick. Hitting i use the exact sliders posted on this thread and they work great.

Cant say if it is easier or harder, sorry, but very realistic.

Psycho, great f'n sliders man, just a quick question.1) You have reliever stamina set to 0. Would manually editing relievers stamina, specifically middle relief, setup men, and closers be fine with these sliders or no? And if so, any advice on where to put their stamina at???

This is my first post here, anyways, thanks PsychoBulk for posting those latest sliders which I must say work very good with HOF mode unlike those default sliders which are ridiculous. the opening series with the Reds made for interesting and close games with pretty realize play all around but one thing I noticed is, the AI made some costly errors while I didn't make a single one the whole series. but maybe it will even out as I play more. I'm looking forward to finishing the season

This may sound dumb to you but I have a question about how you rest your fingers waiting on the pitch? I ask because before I would have my thumb sitting on the X button waiting on the pitch. A lot of times I found myself pushing X even though I knew I should not. I now rest below the button and it has made a huge difference on swing at quality pitches.

Played my first game with these sliders last night. It was on veteran and it was a pretty fun game.

                          Braves 3-8-0 (me)
                          Phillies 0-2-1

I scored my first run in the top of the 9th off of a bases loaded walk, which was pretty cool. Then Shafer had a 2rbi single. I would have like for the CPU to have hit slighty better but Hudson was on and this is only game 1. I will keep. Yall posted and not make any judgement or changes to these sliders until atleast 20 games in.

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

Thought I'd try these out this year. Personally, I hate sliders. I think they're all mental, but that being said, I am a slider junkie and always find myself trying different varieties and sets. I'm one of those people who will start their franchise over several times before settling on a good slider set. (I am sick of playing the Orioles!)

The only tweaks I made was turning pitch speed down to 3 (-2). I cannot judge pitches on default pitch speed and strike out too much and get only 1-2 walks per game. I am very patient hitter and will wait for "my pitch," but at default it's too hard to judge pitches and I chase a lot of balls. I also turned timing down to 3 (-2) to compensate. My other tweak was I set CPU manager hook to default. I find that anything higher they yank the pitcher at the first hint of trouble, even if he'd been dealing all game.

                            Game 1:
                            NYY(me) 9 12 0
                            BAL(cpu) 6 16 0 (11 innings)
                            Notes: I had 10 walks as a team! A-Rod: 5-for-5, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Sabathia pitched well for me (6 IP, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) and left with a 5-1 lead. My bullpen, however, gave it all back. The big blow to me was a 2-out, 3-run "triple" hit by the Orioles. I put "triple" in quotes because it was actually an innocent single that bounced in front of Damon in LF, but instead of scooping it up it simply rolled past him to the wall. Bad animation or my fault...who knows? With the runner on third, the next batter hits a swinging bunt, and I had a sure out at the plate, but instead threw to 1st and the runner beat it out! Tie game!

Took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 9th, only to have Rivera serve up a solo shot to Markakis to tie it at 6-all.

Anyway, I rally in the 11th to go up 9-6, Bruney holds the lead, and I win Game 1.

Overall, I found hitting too easy, but I just chalked it up to crappy Baltimore pitchers. I was able to get walks at will. I just sat back just to see how many 1st-pitch strikes were thrown (there wasn't many). Almost like, if I said I wanted to walk in an AB, I could. The O's strike pct. as a team was around 55%. I saw about 200 pitches in the 11 innings.

                            Game 2:
                            NYY 8 12 1
                            BAL 10 14 0
Notes: Markakis hits a walk-off grand slam in the 9th!

Much of the same in this game, a slugfest.Wang wasn't good (5 ER in 5 IP, 3 BB, 2 K). Uehara for the O's threw a lot of balls, but I only had 2 walks in the game. I went to a lot of full counts, though. It was late and I was getting tired, so that probably had something to do with it. Still, I took an 8-6 lead to the 9th and brought in Mo. He proceeded to load the bases and give up a grand slam to Markakis for a 10-8 loss. Thru 2 games, Mo has 2 blown saves and 1 IP, 8 H, 5 ER. A-Rod started the season 8-for-8 with 2 HR, a double, a triple, and 7 RBI before finally making an out.

                            Game 3:
                            NYY 4 11 0
                            BAL 5 8 1
Notes: Burnett injured in the 4th inning (out a few days).

With the score 3-3 in the 4th, I sensed more of the same about to happen. So this is when I decided to raise pitch speed and timing back up to 5 (default) to make it harder on me. You know what...it ended up calming down the offense for both teams. I don't know if pitch speed affects the CPU hitting, but it seemed to. Albaladejo pitched 3.1 shutout innings in relief of Burnett. They had the lead most the game and I had a couple of threats late but could never cash in. A good, close game.

                            Game 4:
                            NYY 0 3 0
                            KC 2 10 0

For this game, I moved pitch speed back down one to 4 (-1) but kept timing at 5 (default). At 3 (-2) pitches "floated" and were too easy for me to read, resulting in great offense. At default, they're too fast, I can't judge, and I end up chasing a lot of pitches! So, naturally, I settled in the middle at 4 (-1).

I liked the results. I was shutout because Haracio Ramirez was dealing for KC. My approach was the same, take pitches and wait for "my pitch," but Ho-Ram was firing strike after strike and getting me behind in counts. I walked twice and struck out 5 times, which tells me I was judging pitches fairly and didn't feel helpless at the plate. The fact that I was shut out was because of Ho-Ram's accuracy early in counts putting me in a hole and forcing me to swing at "his pitch", which is what should happen when a pitcher is on his game. It felt really real to me. Pettitte pitched well in defeat.

Overall, I am liking these sliders now that I settled on a pitch speed of 4 (-1). After raising pitch speed back up everything fell into place: the offenses by both teams, the amount of walks I was getting, etc. I am even giving up my fair share of walks, about 3-5 per game, which I love! (I use classic pitching but don't give in hardly ever) I am satisfied with the fielder speed, baserunner speed, etc. What I think affects gameplay the most are pitch speed, contact, power, timing, etc. Those are the most important to me and I think I found the right combo. It's only 4 games, so I'll reserve judgement for another 20 games or so and let you know.

So, in summary, sliders are good so far with my only tweaks being to lower pitch speed and manager hook one notch to 4.

                            Thanks.

Everything is still playing great for me, except I cant steal any bases. I get great jumps with McLouth and Morgan but still get gunned down the majority of the time. Even on breaking balls. I get a great jump on a breaking ball, I think I am in by a mile, then a bang bang tag, Im out.

Did you download the latest patch? I've read that some folks are having difficulty stealing bases since the patch. I've only played 2 games since downloading the patch and I've been way behind in both games thus I didn't steal. I needed baserunners!!
