Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Played another game and I have to say, everything but the CPU hitting is absolutely perfect. It's actually kinda scary how well you did with these sliders, Psych. Congrats.
The CPU hitting is still a problem as I had Ricky Romero on the mound and I held the Twins to 1 run on 6 hits over 7 innings. Better but I actually am skipping pitching with Halladay for the time being because of the underpowered CPU hitting. Also, although the strike to ball ratio was better, it too is a little too high on the strike side, considering who I am pitching with.
I will continue playing with these for another game or two, but am leaning towards bumping the CPU timing up to 5 and also dropping the Human Pitching Control and Consistency down to default 5 if the trend continues.
Any thoughts Psych? Am I going to get the desired results or should I be looking elsewhere if I do need to change it after a few more games? I wish I had time to test these out over a 30+ game stretch but with life getting in the way of my video game time these last few years, it would take me two weeks to play that many games lol.Comment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
King, drop your power and contact both 1, give it say 10/15 games (more are really needed) and see how you go, let me know.
packman, yes, drop your contact 1.
mjh, great, let me know how you find them but please, NOT after one game, absolutely no conclusions can be drawn from that.
Play 20/30 then come back to me
In the interim, I tried an experiment...
Because I was getting too many HRs and extra base hits with the Giants, I dropped my power one and because the CPU was htting for too high a BA while rarely engaging my fielders, I dropped their solid hits by one...
Played two IDENTICAL games...both 3-1 losses with 15 total hits, a few doubles per game, one triple in two games and no HRs by either side...
The CPU mounted a three run "rally" in the 5th inning in both games when my starter was around the 70-80 pitch count, had decent confidence was wasn't locating as well as earlier...
Pretty realistic results for the Giants when facing the Red's Volquez and the Met's Maine...but overall the 'fun' factor playing out a 1960's era stlyle "pitching duel" was missing...
I have been referencing The Aub's stat sticky on the slider page and bascially am trying to land in between the 15 run 25 hit games I was getting with version 1.3 / 1.4 and the 4 run 15 hit snoozers I got with my adjustments...
For the next bunch of games, I'm going to restore my power and the CPU's solid hits to 1.4 "default" and take your suggestion to drop contact one click for both sides...
My only concern is that it may up the K count, which has consistantly been in the "sweet spot"...
On a final note, I'm down with the "play twenty games" slider philosophy...I played nearly that before reaching out...90% of them fell into the 15 run 25 hit category...
I'm just grasping for a quick fix b/c I'm in August of my season and I'm hoping to get to year two for the first time since I got hooked on The Show 3 years ago...
Thanks again, for the sliders and the input on adjustments, I'll play these out for a while and report back...
(EDIT) Funny thing is that the two Giant games I've seen this year (versus Mets) have been those 15 run 25 hit extavaganzas I'm questioning...I'll try the reduction in contact, but we'll see...Comment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Quick question for you Psycho. I know you said you do not use the left stick when hitting......do you use the right stick before the pitch to influence your hit? pushing up for sac fly, etc....Just curious.
My pitching was dominating early, I was thinking I mite need to mess with sliders but....I have been getting rocked lately! So for those who are pitching really well early on, give these sliders time it well even out for ya. Great work Psycho.
ThanksComment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Dropping solid hits for the CPU was a problem, so I dropped contact 1 click for both sides and although I've only had the chance to play two games, it seems to have done the trick...Comment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Psycho, I tried these sliders a few weeks back but found them too difficult. After progressing, and regressing, and progressing again I tried these again. I must say, I can not believe how much more hooked I am on this game. Your sliders have this game playing awfully nice.
One of the bigger issues I was having was finding a good slider set that allows me to work the count, get walks, and at the same time provide a good challenge (to the eye) at the plate. When I saw your CPU pitch settings, I thought no way would this set achieve this. Well, I was completely wrong and am very pleased with the results I've achieved so far.
After working through Spring Training in my ATL franchise (trying to find THAT slider set), I started the regular season today with your v1.4 sliders.
Game 1: ATL 1, PHI 4...Hamels dominated after walking two in a row in the top of the 1st (never had that happen to me). CPU got quite a few singles off of some good pitching by Lowe, but none of it felt cheap. Worked 3 BBs, should have been 5 - 6 (no one to blame but me and my thumb). I really felt Hamels was so difficult to hit off of because of the lack of strikes he actually threw. Just had me in awe.
Game 2: ATL 4, PHI 3...Very fun comeback win for myself, down 3 - 2 heading into the 8th. Top of the 8th, Chipper jacks a 2-run shot over RF. Soriano and Gonzalez finish off the Phils. Worked only 2 BBs, but again should have been around 4 - 5.
Game 3: ATL 8, PHI 0...three HRs hit by myself, bats active all day. Jurjens CG 4-hit shutout. Phils just could not get contact or put together a sustainable inning. Worked 3 BBs, definitely should have been at least 5. All three games were very exciting and provided very good Pitcher/Batter duels (Schafer (me) had an 11-pitch duel which ended in a BB!)
Some things I've noticed though...a lot of hits that should be extra-base hits, such as liners to the corners, are thrown out on perfect throws from across the outfield. I am thinking about upping Baserunner speed due to this. What do you think?
Also, more than half the time during an AB, the first pitch the CPU throws is a Fastball right over the plate. I know Strike Frequency controls the first series of pitches the CPU throws. Have you considered dropping this? Do you feel the same about this? I don't really want to play with "house rules" in regards to this.
I also don't feel like there are enough errors on the Human side (plenty for CPU). I know this is a Global slider, just wondering if you had seen your fair share?
Again, awesome, awesome, awesome, and thank you! Sorry for the essay.Current crack: MLB '09: The Show, Madden '10 NewsComment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Another game...
WAS 7 10 0
ATL 4 9 0
Really, really worked the counts in this one. Zimmerman issued 4 walks and threw 100 pitches (51 S, 49 B) in 6 innings. Felt I could have worked a few more walks. Chipper and Francouer each had solo HRs, Dunn put out a 3-run jack for WAS. Through 4 games I now have 6 HRs.
Another issue that may start to bother me is steal success. I've been thrown out 3 times now in 4 games. I definitely do steal at appropriate times as well (2 of the 3 times I was caught on breaking balls low). I'll keep trying though and see about upping the slider.
Oh, and disregard what I had mentioned in my previous post about first-pitch strikes. Not the case one bit this last game.Current crack: MLB '09: The Show, Madden '10 NewsComment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Hans, really appreciate the comments, always do with feedback, had a slight chuckle (in a nice way) at the first pitch strike comment, thats why i always tell people its impossible to begin to judge a slider set until after 20/30 games and sometimes that isnt enough. Everything you have mentioned will even out over time, im 46 games into my franchise now and its all going just superbly (without trying to sound big headed).
You sound like the same sort of player as me, try to be patient/draw walks etc, the rest will come, it does, believe me, over time.
Thanks for the nice comments and i look forward to further feedback
p.s. stupidsuck, 1.3 is on the vault, 1.4 (latest version) is not, the only difference though is raising Global Throwing Errors to 5 (default).Comment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Thank for this slider set. I've been going crazy trying to make my own since the game came out. I really like yours, almost perfect for me except I'm having too much success hitting. Would you recommend turning down contact or solid hits or both?Comment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Depends on whether you are just getting on base too often or hitting too many extra base hits.
If its the former, contact, if its the latter, power/solid hits, if its both, all 3 down one click.Comment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Hi ladies-
I have a question regarding this slider set. It seems (so far) to be a great set...but why fielder's speed @ 10?? Don't the OFs and such get to the ball quick enough as it is??
All my best to you and yours...
