I see this as well on my end and thats with Control at 5 and Consistency at 6 so I would imagine if you have these at 5 and 4 respectively then you will see more then normal. From what I can gather the consistency slider dictates how far the pitch misses which leads to those times where Im throwing a change down and away and it somehow ends up middle in, which happens far too often in this game imo.

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

OK boys. Gotta say I am liking these a lot. While ever so anxiously waiting for Knights Rosters so I can start my franchise I have been testing slider sets so I can go into my franchise this year with everything ready so I don't have to restart as I seem to do every year. (This year has been tough waiting out knights rosters, but I know it will be SOOO worth it.)
So anyway I decided to take these and start a 29 game season just to test. I figure 29 games should be enough to see if anything really needs changed and it is something to pass the time while I'm waiting on rosters. I am 7 games in with my beloved Royals with a 4-3 record. One thing to note when lookin at these stats I am about to post, I am fairly sure that having API on default vs. On makes a difference on the way the CPU pitches. I like to use API so I had it on but noticed the CPU pitcher was leaving way way to many fastballs middle up and I was crushing them. I noticed a difference when I changed the setting to default after 3 games (not really sure if that is what changed it but whatever I am happy).

As I said I am 4-3 through 7 games and I figured I would post some stats to show how much success I am having with these. Batting averages are slightly high because I raked in the first 3 games. And after all it is only 7 games. By the end of the 29 games it will even out.

KC ROYALS 29 game SEASON (update #1)

      W L RS RA
      4 3 37 31

      Hou 3 8 1
      KC 7 13 0

      KC 3 7 0
      MIL 2 7 0

      PIT 5 14 1
      KC 11 16 0

      KC 3 8 1
      STL 8 9 0

      ARI 2 9 1
      KC 5 9 0

      KC 4 9 0
      COL 6 11 0

      LAD 5 11 1
      KC 4 9 0

As you can see I am having some great games with some excellent variance!!
Here are some stats for my season. (in case your wondering in the 29 game season mode every team plays each team once.)

Name AB AVE RBI HR 2B 3B BB K

      Crisp 26 .346 3 1 3 0 0 2

      Dejesus 29 .310 5 1 2 1 2 3

      Guillen 27 .296 7 1 2 0 2 1

      Jacobs 25 .320 10 3 1 0 3 2

      Butler 17 .471 2 0 0 1 2 2

      Gordon 26 .231 1 0 1 0 1 3

      Olivo 21 .333 1 0 0 0 0 5

      Teahen 17 .235 2 0 1 1 1 3

      Aviles 24 .167 1 0 0 0 1 3

      Reserves 20 .400 5 1 1 0 0 3

      Pitchers 5 .000 0 0 0 0 0 1

      TEAM 237 .300 37 7 10 4 12 28

The numbers I am most happy with is BB drawn(12, 1.71/gm) (getting a lot more patient and i think API thing helped i got 7 in last 2 games!!) And also HR's. Been having trouble with User Power in most sets either too much or not enough. These seem perfect.(7, 1/gm)

      On to pitching.

      Starters

Name GS W L QS IP ERA K BB AVEvR AVEvL HRa

      Grienke 2 1 1 2 13.0 4.15 9 4 .172 .409 0

      Bannister 1 1 0 0 5.0 9.00 4 0 .667 .389 1

      Hochevear 1 0 0 1 6.0 0.00 6 1 .176 .167 0

      Davies 1 1 0 1 6.0 3.00 7 0 .308 .300 1

Relievers IP ERA K BB HR's

      ALL 17.0 5.29 8 1 0

      Totals 61.0 IP 4.13 ERA 42 K 6 BB 4 HR .265 AVEvR
      .317 AVEvL

The biggest thing here is BB I need to walk more batters, maybe it is a user thing So i'll try to nibble more i guess. HRs may seem low but I have played a few weak hiting teams and Kauffman Doesn't see a lot of home runs hit. So the jury is still out. I plan on playing out the whole 29 with out changing any of the sliders.
      GL ME!! haha

Well I hope you enjoyed it and if your searching for a slider set I hope I convinced you to try these. I will post another update on my season after 15 games if anyone is interested!

      Thanks,

Patti thats some great feedback cheers, i am really keen to see how they look when the 29 games are complete. You are right, issuing more walks to the CPU is done by nibbling more, not adjusting anything

There are many factors that influence where the pitch goes mate, if you could have it pinpointed by hitting the perfect meter spot time after time you would be a god and never give up a run, it would bore the hell out of you also

Think the pitchers stamina, confidence, what pitch is he throwing, is he confident in that pitch, is it in a batters hot/cold zone, does he pitch well in certain counts, what is the count, does the batter hit well with 2 strikes, is he patient/free swings, i could go on, there are so many variables, and attributes have to be taken into account otherwise, as i said, anyone whos good on the meter could throw no hitters on demand.

I guess it upsets me because I'm not that good with the meter so I'm pissed when I do hit my spot and the ball goes way off target.

Wouldn't lowering consistency to 4 make you less consistent?

              Yes.

Consistency is how often a pitch goes where you want it to go.

I was getting frustrated by these sliders, giving up 14+ hits a game to the computer every single game. Then I started using them in a season instead of exhibition. They've definitely started giving me the results I've seen here.

I'll post my results after 10 games or so...

                    Good work once again, PsychoBulk.

Psycho I'm about to wrap up this road trip, I've got one more series with Cincy before I come home. This will be based off almost a full month of play and I'll give you some stats. I think I'm doing better, I'm 10-5 headed into this game with the Reds.

The only thing that is frustrating me a bit is Kelly Johnson, kid can't get a hit to save his life. He's in one of those month long slumps.

I'm going to give these a test run in a mini season on veteran.

I'll post the results after I'm done, and I appreciate all the effort yourself and others have put forth into these sliders!!!

                            Thanks again!!!

These sliders work great on veteran.
I dropped down after making a fool of myself on all-star.
Still get the real good variety of games and hits but without that always lurking CPU hitting frenzy that I saw too often on AS.

Glad to hear that Bleacher, and with someone else saying they work well enough on HOF too, they seem to be rounded enough to work on all levels despite being designed for All-Star, which is good.
