Trying to understand the fielding sliders...

    All Star Level, Fielding Sliders set as follows;

    Fielder run speed: 3 (-2)
    Fielder reaction: 3 (-2)
    Fielder arm strength: 3 (-2)

I was looking for more balls in the gap and more runners stretching from 1st to 3rd.

I have seen some better results with these, but it seems that the CPU throws are all right on line and user throws are more erratic.

I wish these sliders were both CPU and User and not Global.

Does anyone else have a problem with the CPU throwing accuracy?

I tried lowering all 3 of these on All-Star but was seeing way too many extra base hits from the CPU. Every game more than half their hits were extra bases.
I then raised all fielding sliders back to default and am having much more success with this. The guys who can throw well do so in the game too. Vlad has a cannon from RF. But playing as NYY I have noticed Johnny Damon's arm is so weak he couldn't throw a fit.
You will see the occasional errant throw from the outfield on default though, and I also see a decent amount of doubles and a few triples.
I just like default keeping the extra bases to a minimum.

Re: Trying to understand the fielding sliders...

I've been using Blzer's global sliders, and have been working really well for me.

He basically also has Fielder Reaction and Fielder Arm to -2. I adjusted the Fielder Speed all the way down to 0 though. I've been seeing gappers and doubles down the line.

I did notice that the CPU seems less affected by Fielder Speed than the User does, which is cheating. Same thing with the Arm Strength. But there's no way around it because even at default, they run faster and throw better than you.

Fielder reaction does basically nothing; the outcome of maybe one play per game might be changed by adjusting fielder reaction. Fielder run speed has much more of an effect.

Phoenix, i have a bit off topic question for you, do you notice any difference between manual and assisted fielding because i sure don't.

I don't know, I've only played on manual, which feels assisted due to the how animation dependent the game is. Maybe on assisted, your fielder might be pushed towards the ball a little bit more.

Re: Trying to understand the fielding sliders...

Alright... This original thread was posted a LONG time ago, but I figured bumping this thread was better than making a new one.

I think we can all agree that the fielding abilities need some adjusting. There are way to many freak plays and sure doubles being caught.

I was wondering what you guys have for your fielding sliders. Right now mine are:
                Fielder Run Speed: 4 (-1)
                Fielder Reaction: 4 (-1)
                Fielder Arm Strength: 3 (-2)

I'm thinking about turning down the Fielder Run Speed down 1 notch to make it 3 (-2), but I wanted to see what you guys were using for comparison.

Many people are doing something similar with all those fielding sliders.

But you probably shouldn't have added to such an old thread! I presume this thread is for MLB 09 and sliders may work slightly different in 12.
