WIND slider - any studies done???

I've been steadily increasing the WIND slider and am wondering if there are any comments from others. I have not played enough games to see if it is really having any effect.

Also - WIND - random???? Whats the story on WIND!

AND YES - I did a freaking search and came up with a thousand threads that tell me nothing LOL

Mother Nature tends to be random as hell.

Actually know - wind is pretty predictable in certain parts of the country and certain stadium directions (ask the New York Yankees)

It's hard to discuss this with the on-field effect, so I'll just talk about what is easy to see:

What I know is that it DIRECTLY affects the wind gauge display - if you change it in game, the gauge will change with it. What I mean by that is if it says the wind is blowing 10 MPH at the default setting, raising it will immediately increase that number as soon as you leave the slider screen. Zeroing the slider is dome weather - 0 MPH. It's probably the only slider in this game where zero truly means zero. That makes it REALLY easy to see how this thing ticks. It increments based on a percentage of the default setting. So, at a default setting with 10 MPH, this would be what each slider tick does:

        0:0 mph
        1:2 mph
        2:4 mph
        3:6 mph
        4:8 mph
        5:10 mph
And so on all the way to 10 (full slider) which is 20 mph. Or close to it, at least - my game actually showed 21 when I was checking this. So there's percentage points (tenth or hundredths) that are factoring in too. Of course, the default speed isn't always going to be 10, so the scale is different for each one.

If you're talking about the actual effect on a batted ball, that's a bit more subjective and not something I can really get into.

Funny you used the Yankees as a defense for wind predictability:

          From NY Daily News:

"According to a Yankees official, engineers performed a wind study during construction of the new ballpark that showed there would be no noticeable difference between the two fields"

I think any engineer will tell you that studies and reality have yet to be a predictable science when if comes to predicting how not one but many buildings effect wind patters. Even the attendence will effect wind. More people in the stadium the more the wind will be dirty and a few feet higher in elevation. (I'm a weather geek - have my own weather station :-)

            as of the topic -

OH!!!!! It changes the AMOUNT of wind and not the EFFECT!! hmmmm

Well, I'd prefer to say that it affects both - changing the wind speed itself is certainly going to change what happens to the ball in the air. More wind = more effect on the ball.

I'd imagine the question you're asking is how big of an effect does "x" wind speed have, and like I said, that's not something that can be answered without a bunch of testing.

OK - let's put it this way.

Have you noticed any wind influence games? I have not but I have not played THAT many games (20+) and I had the setting on the default.

Wind plays a huge role if it's above 10mph. I play with the Cubs and the wind is usually blowing out or in a good deal. Last 2 games, the wind was blowing in from right at 16mph and 13mph. I gave up one run in both games, as I pitched to right field both games as the CPU hit harmless fly balls to right all game.

That's what I wanted to hear. I think I'll boost my wind up a notch! Would have won a game last night with one more MPH!! LOL
