Is anyone using the pitch meter getting realistic walk totals, or should I give in and move to Classic pitching?

Meter pitching sliders with realistic user walks / Is it possible?
Im playing on All-Star and have been trying to find a slider combo that makes it possible for me to get a realistic number of user walks. Right now through 12 games I've walked 3 batters. ERA etc. is pretty realistic, but it seems I would have to try and walk batters on purpose to get realistic walk totals using the pitch meter.

Either use the meter with the outfield pitching view since it's the hardest to pitch from (still not that hard IMO) or use classic. -

If you had the control of Greg Maddux and could paint the corners, would you walk people? Greg Maddux in his prime would have to purposefully walk people to actually walk people.Comment

Re: Meter pitching sliders with realistic user walks / Is it possible?
What I've been experimenting with for meter is Consistency 5, Control 0. I'm using All-Star now and walking about 3 CPU batters a game, not counting IBB's. This has allowed me to throw around 65% strike rate (which is still just a tad too high). I might try moving up to HoF for pitching on meter since it's much easier than classic really is.Steam: BahnzoComment

It can be difficult sometimes even when you are trying to just nibble the corners. It's not creating them "artificially", it's pitching to the corners and hitting your spots because the game rewards you too much for hitting the meter.

I actually liked it and will keep testing it.
In previous years, lowering Control meant automatic meatballs. But I haven't seen this at all when I just tried it. The CPU was throwing a good amount of balls, and my pitching felt good.
It's obviously too early to tell, but from the recent tests it seems that this year lowering Consistency leads to more "meatballs"Comment

I actually just tried Control at 0 and Consistency at default 5 (for both CPU and User), although I use Classic

Consistency, in the game, is described as how often the ball deviates from it's intended target...so while it does lead to more meatballs, it also leads to more instances of the pitcher "loosing the handle" on the pitch and the possibility that it could wind up anywhere. Trying to walk the tightrope between a realistic amount of times where any given pitcher just "looses the handle" and a pitch just missing it's location by a few inches seems to be the key to getting a realistic feel to the pitching this year. I feel that by default you "lose the handle" too often with classic pitching, and not often enough with meter.Steam: BahnzoComment

Re: Meter pitching sliders with realistic user walks / Is it possible?
In answer to the question, yes, it certainly is possible, as long as you try and paint the corners, which you have said you do, but as per my slider set, i would really recommend raising the control and consistency, this makes you issue more walks not less, for explanations please see the threadComment

Re: Meter pitching sliders with realistic user walks / Is it possible?
Just a suggestion but maybe try raising the CPU hitting sliders so they are better and you have to be more careful. This way you will really try to paint the black and you will pitch around more.
Only problem is when you walk a couple guys back to back your confidence gets shot and you start to throw meatballs and then you get crushed.Comment

Wouldn't it be better to just move up to HOF pitching instead upping the cpu offense through sliders?“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Might have to try this though.
Psycobulk, thanks for the response, i'll check your slider section.Comment

Re: Meter pitching sliders with realistic user walks / Is it possible?
I have been very frustrated trying to have sliders that will cause walks unintentionally. I tried lowering control and consistency. I've tried raising them as PychoBulk recommended. I'm probably averaging 1 bb per game on allstar.
I know raising the difficulty level will make it harder to get outs but couldn't this also make it more difficult to throw strikes as well? I'll have to test tomorrow. Perhaps Legend pitching with dumbed down CPU offense sliders may be the key?Comment

Re: Meter pitching sliders with realistic user walks / Is it possible?
try lowering Control to 0 and raise Consistency to 10
this year it seems that Consistency is the meatball slider, while last year it was the other way around.
I just gave up 4 walks with Jered Weaver in my last game, and have given up at least 2 walks the last couple of gamesComment

Re: Meter pitching sliders with realistic user walks / Is it possible?
From what others have said the "meatball" slider is the control. Frankly, I get real uncomfortable when we start talking about a "meatball" slider...reminds me too much of 2k's meatball pitch from years past, which makes me shudder.
I'm assuming this is generic for leaving it over the middle. But it should be missing both on and off the plate.Comment
