    I think I give up!!!

    Good Day,

I have been playing The MLB The Show since it was released in 2006. I love it , I truly enjoy playing this game as I am a die hard baseball fan. (Borderline obsessed) I purchased a PS 3 about three months ago, and then immediately ran out and got MLB 10 The Show. I'm lost. I always start a 162 game season, playing on veteran, and then to All-star when I get hot. However this game is much different. The slogan is "What's realistic" and I cannot find that feel. I have started and then deleted several seasons the past couple of months and have started a season with the St. Louis Cardinals. I'm currently 10-3. However I'm dead last in hits, team BA, runs scored. However I'm ranked in the top five in almost all pitching categories. I play on All-star. The hitting is so difficult and un realistic it makes me sick. I have played with Psycho sliders along with many others, and I think I just make my own. I have always thought of channeling the sliders as cheating, but I realize that they are adjusted for the users ability. I have had the biggest problem with just getting hits, and seeing the ball. PLEASE someone help me because iv gotten to the point ware Jim just going to get rid of the game and maybe even my system if I continue to adjust the sliders and teams. Thank you

Re: I think I give up!!!

I play HOF defaults and have the exact opposite results. Dead last in most pitching catagories sans K's and first in all offesive catagories but I play as the Yankees so first in offensive catagories is expected. BTW I'm not in first by a large margin in those catagories.

For me I stopped thinking about tweaking sliders this year and decided to stick with it outta the box so to speak. I did tweak one thing and that was the pitch speed slider. I dropped it two clicks.

I don't play with guess pitch and I turn off all aides with the exception of fielding aides.

I've seen alot of people who have had trouble hitting in the past that stopped using guess pitch see better results. More power/more extra base hits/ more variety.

Edit; Also, i'm getting better at my pitching numbers. My 2 problems are, 1. accuracy of the pitch meter KILLS me and 2. I think my I leave my pitchers in too long. I think late inning fatigue plays a large role in my big ERA.

I'm Thinking about just lowering the pitch speed and perhaps this will help. The system always tells me that I'm early on pitches so maybe I should lower the pitch speed or raise it.

This is what I'm thinking of....

      power 5
      timing 5
      solid hits 3

      Pitcher control 6

      Global

Yeah, looks good, try it. But make sure you play at least a handful of games before determining your outcome.

Also remember this, it could just be a slump and you may break out of it soon. I had a four game stretch where I scored all of 3 runs on about 7 hits. I was not happy. But I broke out of that slump and clobbered 4 HR's agianst the tribe not long after that. Arod had 3 of them. Now I'm riding a nice hot streak and seperating my team in the standings.

2006, a bit of 2007 and 2008, everyone complained about too many hits and too much offense. Remember the 5 runs on 18 hit boxscores?

SCEA has now given us a challenging game in which we have to earn our hits. I too have low offensive stats compared to team rankings but find ways to win and play .500 ball with a team that is playing well below .500 in real life.

People are trying to play on difficulties they've been playing for years past. The game has been reconfigured to play harder and therefore alot of past HOF people are playing allstar and allstar people are playing veteran.

You are 10-3 with the Cards...enjoy the game,

PS...lower pitch speed to zero if necessary and play on default for awhile, then tweak.

Too many people play with pitch speed at default and cannot judge late movement pitches. The cpu is setting you up with pitches that change your eye movement and breaking pitches out of the zone. You have to go with the adage that you will get one good pitch per at bat and swing at that one.

Lower pitch speed and look for pitches middle and slightly up to enhance the solid hits slider affect. At default, allstar should give you plenty of fastballs over the plate.

Re: I think I give up!!!

Why don't you drop down to veteran level for hitting if you're finding it that hard?
I use all-star default sliders and I am currently 1st in batting average, 2nd in homers, 4th in runs scored. Still last in walks but that's even getting a little better lately, and I am currently in second place, 1 and a half games behind the Orioles and 3 ahead of the third place Sox.
I am also using the Yanks and as chefdad said being at or near the top of the league in offensive categories isn't a surprise for them.
I hit fine, although I only managed 4 hits and 1 run in my last game but I like that. I don't want to hit the ball like I'm playing beer league softball.
I just need to pitch better as I find myself falling into the same trap over and over again, where I don't want to give in and walk a guy so I lay one right in there and he smashes it. I simply lose focus on the mound which is a bad thing in this game. It makes you pay for mistakes.

I play with pitch speed at zero. No shame in it. But if you are early on everything then you should speed it up.

No shame in that AT ALL if your getting good results.

You know you can set difficulty separately for hitting and pitching, right? You might consider going up to HOF for pitching and down to Veteran for hitting.

And ... 10-3? Wish I had your problems, dude.

Re: I think I give up!!!

i think pitch speed is somthing guys are afraid to turn down. its almost like they do feel shame in doing so. I have mine at 3 and i feel like i can see the ball, but still have the challenge needed. At 4 its a bit to hard for me to tell any difference between a fastball and a changeup. Yeah i know thats sort of the indea behind these pitch types, but when i take, i feel like i should see a slight variance in speed.

so i keep it at 3 and get realistic results. Although i am in a "i almost broke my controller" slump right now. im very frustrated to say the least
