Re: MLB01's Hall of Fame Sliders

I mean the pitching icon. You know: On, Fade, or Off? The pitching ball marker.

Also, do you use vibration when you pitch?

The reason I ask is because I currently have some tough sliders going, CPU wise, but since I turned the ball marker back on, the CPU has stopped hitting homers. They still get plenty of doubles and such, but probably could hit a few more long balls.

I figured the ball marker to be the culprit. That or the timing slider. I have my CPU timing at 4 (contact 4, power, fouls, solids all default). I figured you'd be the perfect guy to ask about the CPU homers, since we play with similar sliders on HOF pitching.

Over my first 10 games, I gave up 9 homers. But, over my last five...zero. Should I just stick it out?

Or, is the ball marker keeping my pitches too far out of the happy zone?

This is why i'd like to see some of your pitching settings. The first page only shows your sliders.

Oh, OK, I have it on fade and the vibration is on, yea..

I'll turn it off and play some games, then report back in this thread how it differed from before for me.

        Hey...Very cool of you MLB01.

I'm actually a little more concerned with the ball marker than I am vibration.

Since I posted, I (regretfully) bumped CPU power to 6 to see if the CPU would start hitting the long ball again. So far, it seems to have helped. I've given up 3 in my last 4 games.

The only reason I feel bad about bumping power, is that it seems to influence CPU singles as well. Though, I did throw a 3 hitter last night.

So yeah, feel free to turn ON the ball marker and let me know if you notice Amy difference. I'm curious to see how it influences the CPU offense.

I gotta tell ya -- I've played a few games with the ball cursor on fade and vibration on still and the CPU still hit well off me -- many singles, few doubles, few HRs. I just lost in extra innings ( I use the Yankees ) against Toronto. It went 11 innings and I just couldn't keep a lid on the bastards in extra innings.

The game before that ( still with the ball cursor on fade and vibration on ) was a playoff game and I lost against the Mariners. That game was different. I actually lost cause I made a throwing error that allowed them to score a run. It was a real pitcher duel and the finals score was 1 to nothin'.

I really like these sliders. They suit my playing style perfectly and yield very realistic results for me. I posted them cause I wondered how they'd suit other people's playing style..

I thought you said you always played with the ballmarker on fade and the vibration on?

I do. I said I was gonna turn it off, but I left it on for now. If I turn it off, I'll probably get blasted, but I'll give it a try soon..

MLB01, don't do anything on my behalf....that's very nice of you, though.

I have been playing with it ON (not OFF, or FADE).

So if you want to test what I've been doing...turn the ball marker ON.

                Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, OK, well, I'll try with it off and on sometime, then post my experiences.

By the way, Toronto bombed on me my last game - Holy Shi ! I mean.. They were leadin' 7 - 6 in the top of the 9th ( was at Yankee stadium ), so I'm like I'll get out of this inning and try for the win in the bottom of the 9th - NO..

They hit like 3 HRs in that top of the 9th and scored 6 runs ! These HRs were gigantic cause the wind was blowing 19MPH to center. I saw one of their HRs go 474 feet. I hit some bombs too though. Rollins hit one 460 feet, but Toronto hit like 5 or 6 off me that game.

Yeah, I just returned back to the Stadium after a long road trip, and during a few test innings Seattle went deep on me three times!

So, I guess if I was worried about a lack of CPU power...yeah, Yankee stadium is like a "power slider" boost in itself!

I think I'm gonna just keep the marker on. If Seattle, of all teams, can abuse me like that using the ballmarker (on), than clearly anyone is capable of the same.

This was off C.C. no less!!! He rarely gets pounded like that with me. Vazquez on the other hand...

Yea, I know what you mean cause CC had 4 scoreless innings, then he gave up 5 in in the 5th inning against Boston. I still ended up winning, but it took some killer offense on my part. The reason pitching is more serious and difficult with my slider config is because of the pitcher control. I know it's only dropped one click, but that makes a big difference. The CPU walked me 5 times that game and I walked them 5 times.

Re: MLB01's Hall of Fame Sliders

I'm averaging (pitching-wise) over 4 walks per game on default control/consistency. This includes using the ballmarker and no vibration! I'd say maybe the wildness is due to the fact that I'm the Yankees, but you are too and you actually had to LOWER your control. LOL

I can't seem to get above (on average) 58% strikes (Real MLB average is 62%). Now, I do have game where Andy Pettitte (who actually ranks amoungst the best in fewest walks allowed...go figure) will only walk like 1 guy, but I always seem to counteract that with a 7 walk game the very next day.

Perhaps this is because I admire the K so much! I just broke 100 K's last night with both Sabathia and Burnett (16 starts each). But, their WHIP's are in the high 1.30's, due to the amount of free passes. They both have allowed less hits than innings pitched though.

Since turning Strike Frequency to 3 (on Legend, from 4), I'm now averaging around 3.5 BB/9. Gotta love that!

Hey...In your opinion, which slider most directly influences User AND CPU Batting Average? Or, which slider do you feel lowers singles? I've actually seen an increase in singles for my offense since lowering the Strike Frequency. I wanna say Contact most directly influences hits/9 (for both User and CPU). Does Solid Hits effect hit totals? I've read differing opinions on this.

Oh...what's your team record anyway? Could you post some of your team stats? I ask mostly out of curiousity, not necessarily for slider reasons. Have you ever considered sharing with the rest of us over in the "Franchise Progress Thread"?

                        http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ss-thread.html

This is BY FAR my favorite thread! I love reading other people's franchise updates/stories. Or reading team pitching/hitting stats, etc. I'll probably be posting my numbers after my 81st game (the half-way point).

My team ( Yankees ) is 8 and 8 right now.

Here's something funny. AJ Burnett has 22 Ks but 12 walks. Pettitte's ERA is like 1.90. Burnett pitched 3 games and Pettitte pitched 2.

Jimmy Rollins ( yea, it was nice to get him during the off season ) has 5 HRs, but he hasn't hit one in the past like 5 games. He had a crazy spurt. Texiera on the other hand leads the league with 8 HRs. He's beastin'. He's also batting over .400.

Cano and Rollins both have 2 errors already.
