Re: Early Slider Discussions Based Off Demo

I'm going to have to make some tweaks to CPU hitting, or bump the pitching difficulty down to Veteran. I'm getting shelled on AS, which is funny b/c with the Demo, I was dominant at AS and had to go up to HOF.

For the poster above, you can try and lower CPU Strike Frequency a click or two. I've been able to draw 2-3 walks a game with Pitch Speed at 3 and CPU Strike Frequency at 4. That's huge for me, as I hardly ever walked last year. I think using Analog helps me take more pitches, too.

Speaking of Analog, I don't know if it's the new controller or what, but I've been raking the ball lately. I think All-Star default is perfect for hitting for me, and moving forward I am going to use Analog; I had 2 HRs in my last game, along with 4 doubles. I like those numbers moving forward, not that I'll be expecting that every game.

So, I'm getting closer to dialing in on my sliders. I'm going to tweak the CPU batting sliders a bit and see what that produces ...

It seems throws from the OF are bit too strong when you execute properly. I'm using the Pirates and no one has a cannon out there, in fact my OFs all have maybe 45-55 rated arm strength. But I'm seeing some real lasers... thoughts?
I've also lowered arm strength by 1 click and fielder reaction & run speed by 2 clicks. I want to play a couple more games before I'm sold on this combination. I think fielders still get to ball too quickly and I'm seeing accurate laser throws (like you mentioned) - my arm strength by 2 clicks?

I highly recommend bumping up to HoF if AS is becoming easy. You'll notice a difference right away. It's satisfying get a runner on a bang-bang play knowing you had to jam the RS full bore. And I'm seeing a good amount of off-line throws from the outfield - not as many as I'd like, but a decent amount.

Let me know how it goes.

Has anyone begun building a perfect slider set for this years game? I am new to the forum but an avid player of the Show.

I may need to hold off on that jump... 4 errors in my last game using Atlanta. Three of them were similar situations where I flicked the stick quickly to preload (DP turn & two slow rollers) which is about the only time I screw up my direction. The other was an Uggla special (only yellow) on a relatively routine grounder. But I'm used to that with Cedeno...

I'm going to try dropping fielder speed & reaction in my next game. Maybe two clicks for speed, but I'm wary of dropping reaction too far as I already see my fair share of rollers through the infield.

Re: Early Slider Discussions Based Off Demo

            A couple things:
1: I've went back to Classic pitching. No matter how hard I made it (and I was pitching corners etc...) I maybe threw 2 walks in 10 games with analog.
I switched back to classic and the walks were there.

2nd: I still do analog fielding but I turned it "off" so that the player ratings determined strength of throw etc.. and I only determine accuracy.

I've gotten the hitting stuff pretty dialed in and have seen many different types of hit balls from dribblers to bloops to rockets.

            This is with:
HOF batting(Timing) and HOF Pitching(Classic) and Legend fielding.

I'm going to play a bit more before calling it quits and starting "My" MLB world.
I feel I'm getting a good mix of user control+Ratings to give a fun experience.

It's funny how one minute you'll feel great and the next you're wondering what happened. I like speed where it is, but I'll continue to monitor.

I've been playing with the Nationals and I usually have 1 error a game, but because I only play every 4th game (or thereabouts) I'm cool with it.

On sliders as a whole, I still want to play some more games, but I'm starting to get into better hitting counts now that I've stayed away from swinging until I get a strike. I'm still swinging at borderline pitches which is keeping strike % up around 66-68%, but I'm seeing around 130+ pitches per game. Once I reduce swings outside of the zone, I'll see % percentage decrease and pitches increase. I'm only walking a little over once a game which should also increase once I learn to lay off the junk.

As Sky mentioned, I'm also having a hard time walking batters with analog. I'm sticking with analog pitching for the time being.

Right now I'm playing with analog & HoF for pitching, hitting & fielding.

Post if you figure anything out with the pitching with analog. I tried Legend and pitcher sliders at zero and many combinations. Even tried these with lower quality pitchers and the walks just wern't happening. I may still use it for my RTTS guy though.
I really like analog pitching but the no walks is not acceptable. As soon as I went back to classic I was getting the walks. I guess since I want a combination on my input BUT player ratings coming into play that classic pitching fits better anyways...

Other than that I'm having lots of good results.

I'm also playing on Legend with analog pitching and I'm walking some people. I'm like in the top 5 in the league in not walking people so yeah I'm trying to get those numbers up. Just last game, I moved my pitcher control down one notch and it seemed a bit harder to locate with my bullpen guy that had not-so-good control, I felt a lot less in control of my breaking balls than before. I really love analog pitching (better than the meter for sure) that I'm really going to try to get it working well. I started out with the CPU hitting me too well so I lowered some CPU batting sliders but then I was dominating too much so that's probably a reason why my walks are down as well in my 29 game test season.

I lowered consistency and accuracy, but I'm forcing myself to throw even further on the black to help fight the lack of walks. I walked in a run in a game today, but I'm still only throwing about 1.5 walks a game. I think it's going to have be a conscious decision on my part to not give in, even a little, in a 3-ball count.

Maybe I don't play enough video games to have super fast hand-eye coordination, but pitch speed at the default level is WAY too fast. I lowered it 2 clicks, but hopefully can improve to keep it around 1 click lower than default. I saw a few guys mentioning this on the first page, but has anyone else done the same?

I noticed a couple people saying they have problems with check swinging and I don't recall seeing the answer to it, so I'll provide it for you in case it hasn't been figured out yet...

Check swing happens if you RELEASE the stick. In other words, if you're just giving it a flick, chances are you'll check the swing. When I use analog I always hold that thing down until I either see the screen change if I make contact or until I hear the ump call strike, otherwise a check swing is highly possible. With that I have never checked a swing yet when wanting to swing fully.

A couple of things. First off I stopped using guess pitch (using timing hitting). I am becoming much more disciplined at the plate by just waiting for my wheelhouse. I am taking far more pitches now that I shut it off.

The CPU hook - Houston I think we may have a slight problem. I just finished playing the Orioles. They brought in Gregg in the 8th and I promptly took him yard on his first pitch with Posada to tie the game at 4-4. He was yanked. Then her brings in Accardo and I take him yard with Cano....he gets yanked right after that.

I have lowered cpu hook down to 3 and will see what happens from there.

Oh yeah. First thing I did when I got the game was drop that slider 2 clicks. I wouldn't be able to hit anything on default with Analog.

As far as getting walks using analog, I lowered all of the user pitch sliders to zero.
Also what I do after I pull down on the stick for power, I "flick it" instead of guiding it to my aim spot at the top (kind of hard to explain without seeing me do it). So if my aim spot is top left, I will flick it up to the top left spot.

To me it feels like I am actualy throwing the ball instead of aiming to a spot. Try it out...... It works for me.

also to me...I'm having a bit of trouble hitting too many HRs. Now I do play on veteran for everything...but thing is I my last 4 game series against the White Sox (with the Rays) I went 3-1, winning by scores of 6-4, 5-4, and 8-3, and my loss was 7-5. I'm very hesitant to up it to all-star because I'm 13-7 and 2 games back from NYY on veteran as it is....any suggestions on that?
