Re: CPU vs CPU
Ok boys. Give these a try for a few games and tell me i'm crazy... lol
The first, most important, absolute thing that needs to be done. is...
Change all three gameplay settings to legend...
I know there has been alot said about how this has no affect on CPU vs CPU but trust me on this.
Most credit goes to Snake Pliscken
I Obviously made the nesessary changes to allow for CPU vs CPU play Plus a tweek to power
Human and cpu sliders are now the same
Contact -- 3
Power -- 4
TImimg -- 7
Foul Frequency -- 5
Solid Hits -- 4

Re: CPU vs CPU
Thanks for giving my sliders a shot. Are you seeing enough walks? I really think there's a big difference in the way with guys with good BB/9s pitch compared to guys with poor BB/9s. I, of course, play the games myself and I'm averaging over 2 walks a game. I could average more but sometimes I'm a little swing happy and that slider is extra nasty this year, so hard to read. I always read the slider as being a little bit higher than it is so I have a tendency to swing at too many low sliders.
---
I think I just realized why there isn't as many 4 pitch walks as we'd like to see. I really don't think the CPU's pitching AI feels the need to pitch around guys nearly as often as pitchers in real life do. That's probably where most of the 4-5 pitch walks come from. I kind of thought it odd that 1 out of every 5 walks is a 4 pitch walk because very few guys have the 3-0 green light and any pitcher (that hasn't really lost his release point) can throw a strike basically at will. When I watch baseball and I see my team's pitcher give up a 4 pitch walk (when he's not trying to walk the guy), I'm always thinking send the pitching coach out there and get someone up in the pen.Comment

Re: CPU vs CPU
Hey snake... didn't think we would see you in this particular thread so I hope you don't mind I went ahead and posted your slider. (for the most part.lol) for all the CPU vs CPU brethren
Ya I just finished game 11 in the sample I'm doing.
So far my walks per team per game are 2.96
Real league average is 3.25.
So just under but again only 11 game sample so far... but all the stats seem to be inline with real league averages. But what I am really enjoying is the running catches in the outfield sometimes with great dives. Leaps at the wall. Bloopers just over the shortstops head and just shy of the outfielders reach. Tons of real world stuff going on here.
Thanks for the slider start brother.Last edited by floydpinkster; 03-24-2011, 01:46 PM.Comment

Re: CPU vs CPU
Cool, it's kind of nice to see how my sliders perform in CPU vs CPU games and with detailed recording of stats. I mainly go off "feel" and I don't look at stats until I feel something is off, and then I use the stats to confirm things. I'm liking that the walks are solid in CPU vs CPU games. Are the wild pitches in check as I'm pretty much the only one with the control at 7 and consistency at 8? Because I feel lowering consistency to get more balls will never be able to keep wild pitches in check. I'm surprised not more people have fielder run speed at 0 as I've yet to see a ball hit where I thought to myself "that should've been caught." I raised fielder reaction to 2 mainly for my players as I feel the CPU third baseman is better than a human controlled one for some reason. I'm a bit surprised the hitting sliders would work as well as in my games as I feel analog pitching allows for greater pitch control than a CPU pitcher, so I increased the CPU's timing for that purpose.Hey snake... didn't think we would see you in this particular thread so I hope you don't mind I went ahead and posted your slider. Re: CPU vs CPU
Okay it's still early but it appears that the BR steal ability slider works contrary to intuition this year (again). I'm testing the slider at 10, and I'm seeing significantly more CS so far (23/37 success rate = 62%, way down from default). It's only 20 games, so I won't bet my saving account on it, but I'm willing to bet the entire Mets organization on it.
Just letting you know if you haven't been testing that particular slider.Comment

Re: CPU vs CPU
That's good to know as I lowered mine to 3 in hope of more caught stealing. Now, I'll raise my setting to 7 or 8. Moving the slider even to maximum or minimum doesn't have a noticeable effect, which is the problem, you literally have to record stats to see the differences like you did. I remember last year, someone posted the slider was reversed and I was able to test it myself and confirm it only a few minutes of testing. The difference between 0 and 10 should be big enough to where you can see the difference just by watching a handful of steal attempts.Okay it's still early but it appears that the BR steal ability slider works contrary to intuition this year (again). Re: CPU vs CPU
Anyone noticed any difference since the release of patch 1.10?
No major gameplay changes were in the fix list but, and it might just be me, but I seem to be seeing less wild pitches.
Like I say could just be me, but anyone noticed any differences?Dedicated member of the CPU v CPU worldwide brethren.Comment

Re: CPU vs CPU
Unfortunately no. I have ten games tested since the patch and I've had 18 WP with a 5 for PITCH CON. I'm hoping this gets a patch as this is the only stat I struggle to correct to normal.Comment

Re: CPU vs CPU
Interesting! I have my BASE STEAL ABILITY at default and in the ten games I've tested since the patch there have been 20 steals and 2 CS. Re: CPU vs CPU
Are u guys playing cpu v cpu exhibition or MOM mode? My only thing w/exhibition is that it forces me to watch the broadcast fielding angle and nI would rather watch med or high. I find myself having to watch mom to do that.
Also what kind of scores are u guys getting? Are they varied or are games pretty close in score?Comment

I haven't noticed any. WP number is as high as ever.

I'm running on a season mode, but I think you can choose your angle even in exhibition using the gameplay option (though I think you cannot have something like the dugout view in exhibition...).Are u guys playing cpu v cpu exhibition or MOM mode? As for game scores, as long as the sliders don't suppress offense too much, you will see a variation over a long run. Scores from my last few games:
4-1
3-5
1-9
4-5
7-5
5-17
3-5
4-2
2-3
1-5
2-9
4-3
2-4

Re: CPU vs CPU
Ok I need you guys to help me out here. In the past I've been a huge MOM player and that's basically CPU vs CPU but the ability to manage a game. Well this year MOM is broken, the game freezes to at the worst possible times. The CPU also takes over way too much. I'd still like to play the game from a GM/Manager perspective though.
So what I'd like to do is play the season on CPU vs CPU mode. I'd like to play this game from a GM's perspective. The problem I'm having though is will the CPU handle the pitching staff correctly? Will they use their bench correctly as well? I know in the past I haven't been crazy at the quick hooks they have for relievers and then other relieves they will let go 2 or 3 innings at a time.
Can anyone give me some insight on if the CPU is handling their team realistically? If so I might just play the season using some of the sliders posted on this thread.Comment

Reliever usage is improved in many respects this year but, unfortunately, worse in others.
The good thing is that you won't now see the CPU trot out the same reliever game after game, they will mix it up quite a bit. The bad aspect is that the CPU will often yank it's closer very rapidly.
In my CPU-CPU franchise here are the bullpen usage stats for the Braves 15 games into the season. Remember all games have been played out, no simming:
Pitcher Role GP
Linebrink MR 9
Moylan SU 7
O'Flaherty MR 7
Sherrill MR 7
Kimbrel CP 6
Venters SU 6
Proctor LR 4
A bit strange that the CPU has used Scott Linebrink so much considering he is the lowest rated of the MRP trio. It's possibly because he is the only RHP of the three. And although Linebrink has pitched in more games, he has actually thrown fewer innings than O'Flaherty or Sherrill.
46 total relief appearances in 15 games. How does that compare with real life baseball? Well it works out at about 3 relief assignments per game. By my calculations in 2010 the Braves used 490 relievers in 162 games, about 3 per game. So that aspect looks very accurately modelled.Last edited by DaiYoung; 03-25-2011, 05:06 AM.Comment
