Striking out the CPU?
I'm playing with a pretty good set of All Star sliders that my brother came up with and I'm seeing some good variations of stats in most of my games. My question for slider guys is how can I get the CPU to occasionally chase a bad pitch out of the zone or take a called third strike? I'm not having problems striking the CPU out, but the only way I'm able to do it for the most part is on pitches across the plate that they just miss. Rarely do I see a called third strike or have the CPU chase a bad pitch out of the zone. It seems like they know exactly when or when not to swing whenever I throw anything close to the plate. Upon occasion it would be nice to see 2 strike hitters chase something out of the zone. What needs adjusted to see more of this?Tags: None -
Re: Striking out the CPU?
Bobhead's CPU Hitting sliders are what works best for me.
CPU Contact - 3
CPU Power - 4
CPU Timing - 8
CPU Foul Frequency - 2
CPU Solid Hits - 3
I think he dropped Timing down one click to 7, but other than that, everything else has remained the same. With my ace (Clayton Kershaw), I'll average about 7-8 K's a game, with my highest being 10, which is about right. With lower level starters, I'll get between 5-7 K's. CPU contact at 3 is the only setting I've been able to get a decent amount of strikeouts on. Swinging strikes, called strike 3s....it's all there. Keep in mind I pitch on HOF with Analog pitching.
Hope this helps. -
Re: Striking out the CPU?
I struck out 7 through 5 with CC Sabathia the other day on Default HOF, using the Classic Interface....
He was dealing! I caught em looking on the backdoor slider, chasing the change up away, hacking at the high heat....
Except, in the 4th, the walk parade started. Ball after ball after ball...
Ridiculously frustrating. I started just aiming balls down the middle, but it was to no use.
Ugh...anyway, to answer your question:
I'm sort of in the same boat. I honestly can't forsee continuing my franchise (default HOF, meter pitching) unless I drop contact a click.
As much as I hate to do it...I have had some decent outings...it's not consistent enough over an extended period, stats-wise.
On the other hand, on AS, I was mowing down CPU hitters! In my first 30 games, I had 3 separate outings where my starter struck out 10+. But, that was also using the Classic Interface...
Why did I stop using it? Aside from a ridiculous amount of quality starts...well, uh...see above.Comment

Re: Striking out the CPU?
Thanks for your response guys. I haven't had problems getting a reasonable amount of strikeouts, but they all are the same. I would love to occasionally fool a batter with something down the middle they aren't expecting or make them look silly chasing something outside that's not a strike. It seems like no matter how many times I get a batter down 0-2, unless I just throw something across the plate he misses, he isn't going to strike out. Normally my 0-2 counts turn to 3-2 counts after wasting a few pitches just off the plate. Anyway, I'll give your tips and ideas a try tonight and let you know how it goes. I'm not sure what settings my cpu contact and timing are on, but I'll look at dropping them.Last edited by crques; 06-20-2011, 03:15 PM.Comment

Re: Striking out the CPU?
Funny that you mentioned that. Yesterday evening I found your sliders and printed them off at work to take home and try. I didn't have a chance to play with them yet, but I plan on it tonight or this weekend. I've been having a little more success with the cpu chasing pitches lately with an updated version of the sliders I was originally using, however I still would like to see a few more instances per game. Thanks.Comment
