There are some things that don't work well with All Star default sliders. For instance, I do NOT recommend Timing Hitting. I don't know if it works better at a lower level, but at All Star with default sliders, the results just don't seem to be there. Zone Hitting works MUCH better. I cannot comment on Analog Hitting, as I am not a fan of that mode.
I played 20 games each, using Timing and Zone hitting for a total of 40 games. Timing just would not produce the realistic stats I was looking for and crave in my sports games. Even with perfect timing, the CPU could still make you miss the ball completely. When I would check using L3, it would show the hit zone wayyyyy off the mark.
Moved over to Zone for 20 games and what a difference. First, I would move the zone to where I thought a pitch would come in, or where I wanted one. If it wasn't there, I would generally take the pitch. If I fell behind with a 2 Strike count, then I would not touch the left stick and use the "O" button to hit for contact. My stats were MUCH more realistic and I was finally hitting like I should.
As far as pitching, I wholly recommend Classic. Yes, I know, this is boring, but it just seemed way more realistic with the number of K's and BB's. Also, it would allow some realism as to if a pitcher was on or off. I had one game with Lincecum where he had 12 K's, and another, where I had to pull him in the 4th because he was getting destroyed, giving up 4 HR's, 3 BB's and NO K's!. Meter and Analog just would not produce the BB's needed or give me that feel of my pitcher being hot or cold.
Hope this helps anyone that really wants to give Default sliders a try and would LOVE to hear from others on any results they came up with. For me, I am trying to get ready for the 2012 game and how I will play that one. I doubt too much will change in the mechanics of the game when it comes out.
