This is likely an adjustment made by the devs to correct the lack of urgency in some plays, and in general it's true. Is it too quick? I don't know... but I think the issue is that the quick throw animations get triggered even when the fielder can take time to throw back to the infield, etc. But that way is better than the lack of control people had in 11 I think.

How do you feel about Arm Strength at 0? I do think arms are too strong in general, but going all the way down, can the guys with cannons still gun down base runners?

      Re: Global Slider Discussion

I currently have Arm Strength @ 3. I'm starting to see more diverse throws based on ratings and circumstances. CPU Granderson lollipopped one to home despite settling under the routine fly out; I assume he has a poor arm, right? Throws without proper footwork are now somewhat weaker, as are some of the pre-loaded routine throws.

Overall, it's looking better, but I might go down to 2 to see if it emphasizes the ratings even more.

I'd just advise you all lowering arm strength (especially those of you accompanying that with dropping speed and/or reaction) to watch for an increase in infield singles (specifically on choppers to the pitcher and catcher).

In years past, it frustrated me to no end!!! Granted, urgency has finally increased so this may or may not be a problem. I just hate when one slider like arm strength has a drastic impact on BABIP.

          Re: Global Slider Discussion

I have lowered arm strength and baserunning speed to both 4. What I observed was base stealers having too much success, (catchers arm seemed weaker) and even throws from cut off men to home plate would always bounce at the pitchers mound. With the reduction in speed I observed balls hit to the wall and baserunners staying at first base (too often)and some runners unable to score from 2nd base on singles. I also saw a lack of triples. It seems these sliders go hand in hand. I have put back to the default now for both and seemed to put Outfield assists, triples, caught stealings, and runners taking extra bases back in sync. Unfortunately there is no way to only adjust the infielder throwing. Watching strong armed outfielders consistently bounce throws with it down is frustrating.

My PS3 is off right now, but doesn't the Arm Strength slider specifically say it doesn't affect the throw of a catcher? Either way it's best not to fall into that habit of jumping to conclusions.

It does say Arm Strength doesn't affect on steals... don't know why some guys don't trust in-game descriptions...

Nomo, In your 75 games on default. What did you come up with for outfield assists? Just curious.

Oops, I should've kept that info somewhere! That's probably a good info to keep track of.

I'm already a few games in with a different slider set, but I think I'll report back once the current game is done.

But these aren't perfect anyways, since we don't have access to position-by-position fielding stats. It's still good for a rough guide.....

Update. There were 35 assists (this is probably an underestimate since I just summed up all primary outfielders in all teams, no secondary outfielders counted) thru 83 games, so 0.21 per game per team. The MLB ave is about 0.17 so it's a bit inflated.

The MLB average for outfielders is .17 per game? or does that .17 include infielders also?

                        Just outfielders.

Thanks for this info Nomo. You are awesome. I fear though that an arm strength rating of 2 would curtail that assist number a lot. I know you are focused on stats but a happy medium with aesthetics would be ideal. I am curious of your opinion once you can watch some of the games. I sincerely appreciate your research here. thanks.
