Re: Shanice's CPU VS CPU SLIDERS for MLB The Show 12

Q: Would it follow then that HOF would be the best for Manager Mode...?
A: In AI vs. AI games the difficulty setting has no effect. This includes Manager Mode. For the purpose of what I handle, AI doesn't know its playing against an AI opponent.

Ok so then does that mean the AI knows when it is playing a human opponent? And whats the difference of the CPU's tendencies when playing an opponent where it wouldn't matter if playing CPU?

Even if the AI doesn't know its playing an AI opponent, don't the difficulty levels represent a skill set i.e. the HOF skill set (incl adaptability) of a pitcher would be "better" then an All Star HOF skill set. Therefore, would a pitcher in a CPU game in Rookie-HOF throw the same pitch against a batter in the same count/circumstance with no skill set difference or difference in result (i.e. the HOF pitcher may be more accurate then the Veteran pitcher )?

I would think this applies to batters/fielders as well regardless of whether the AI is playing itself.

I guess I just question why the skill set of the AI would not change starting from the pitching and then reacting from the batting regardless of the difficulty level?

I wondered about your points as well, and have my own theory as to how things work (so it's not that helpful really, it's just my opinion and we'll keep going in circles unless the devs chime in... and even when the devs chime in we know what happens, lol). But I don't wish to hijack Shanice's thread, so let's not do it here.

So the AI dosnt know it's playing against an AI opponant. Then how come it will give up several walks against AI yet seems to have a mantra of no walking against humans?

Some adjustments to the sliders on the first page. I raised Contact to 6. Pickoffs to 6 and Baserunner Steal Frequency to 6. I decreased Fielder Run Speed to 2. All changes are in red.

I play in "manage only mode", and as a person who is gifted at picking up patterns (and, no, I'm not talking about shopping for clothes or sewing material, lol) I can tell you that the cpu DOES NOT EVER throw over to a base to try and pick off a runner. There are others here who agree with me. The cpu RARELY (unless one of its runners is nearly maxed out in the baserunning ratings) attempts to steal.

I have got to say that these sliders are playing great. The variety from my last 2 games to this game is fantastic.

Just watched a White Sox/Rays game and this was as exciting a game as I have ever seen in a CPU vs CPU game on The Show, It seemed like every pitch was a big one from the 5th inning to the final out.

I'm loving the variation of CPU vs CPU games more and more with these sliders. I'm also using Knight's Opening Day rosters along with the new patch 1.06.

In my new franchise with the Rangers. After getting murdered and destroyed 9-2 by the Mariners two games ago, and then beating the Twins in the next game 11-9, The Rangers had a really good low scoring game just now. They beat the Twins 2-1 with 7 innings of masterful pitching from Rangers starter Darvish in a magnificent pitching duel with the Twins ace Blackburn. Jack Nathan locked down save number 2 by closing the door with a superb scoreless ninth inning.

glad to see these are working for you. I'm still using Nomo's current sliders, and I'm quite happy with my results, as well. this game is so cool, I haven't played another game in my library for almost three weeks.

The CPU will attempt to steal but they won't throw over. I was disappointed this wasn't fixed in the patch.

This is troubling to me. How is it that we gamers, after only playing a handful of games, can pick up on things like this that are so critical to game play and to the realism factor, yet SCEA (or any other publisher out there for that matter) and their QA DEPARTMENT can't? Are we gamers just superhuman, or does SCEA not really care?

You just made my point, but maybe that's what you were after? My point, again, is that the OPPONENT AI won't ever try to pick off one of your guys, and the OPPONENT AI rarely attempts to steal (unless its runner is nearly maxed out in the appropriate categories). It needs to be fixed, but because it's not considered a "bug", SCEA probably couldn't care less.

Great Sliders Shanice! Just tried playing a game with these settings and early impressions have me very impressed.

                            LAD: 2 6 0
                            CHI: 4 5 0

                            W: Garza (7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 Ks)
                            L: Kershaw (6 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 Ks)
                            S: Marmol

                            Extra Base Hits:
                            LAD: 2 (HR, 2B)
                            CHI: 3 (3B, 2 HR)

                            Strike Percentage:
                            LAD: 63% (76 Strikes, 45 Balls, 121 Total Pitches)
                            CHI: 67% (87 Strikes, 43 Balls, 130 Total Pitches)

                            Notes:

This was a pitcher's duel all the way, Both Kersh and Garza were both on their games. LA had a solo HR with Loney in the 2nd inning.

I'm using the sliders as Shanice has posted on the first page,

Shanice, Are there any plans for any further tweaks or are you happy with the sliders the way they are?
