Re: Madman Sliders - Let Player Attributes Take Over the Game

I've used these sliders for my "franchise." But of course, I don't do a normal franchise. I just pitch and play all the games of the season (of course never getting through it).

I usually do another franchise when rosters come out, but for what I'm doing now, these sliders work great for '13.

Re: Madman Sliders - Let Player Attributes Take Over the Game

When I first saw these I said no way, but curiosity got the better of me so I tried it. I love them!! I really like the feel of the game with these. I'm playing a season in 13 with them and so far the results are pretty true to real life. I love the way the ball comes off the bat, the motion of the fielders, everything just looks smoother and more realistic. I have not hit a homerun yet.. but I have had several balls off the wall and I've played a lot of games at Petco so I think the HR's will eventually come.

The only thing I'm not real comfortable with is throws from the outfield can be a little loopy. I bumped up arm strength to 1 and that helped but I may go 2. The other thing is you really have to pay attention to who is running because scoring from second or getting that double it not automatic anymore. I really suggest you all try these for a few games because I think you'll find like me, a better game.

No way I could play with these, I'm not that good so I need the extra help but I'm going to try these in MOM and see what kind of results I get. Very intrigued by the concept.

Concerned with the lack of offense with these.

Through 8 innings only 4 hits combined and 1 run. Not many balls hit hard either.

Re: Madman Sliders - Let Player Attributes Take Over the Game

I have played 5 games with these as the Pittsburgh Pirates and let me first say these sliders are Awesome!!!! I do have a few concerns first through 5 games the Pirates are 5-0 after sweeping the Cubs and taking 2 from the Dodgers in LA still have one game to play in that series. Breakdown of each game:

            Game 1 hosting Chicago Cubs:

Pirates win 3-1! Pirates had 7 hits and the Cubs had 5 hits and 2 Errors Wandy Rodriguez went full 9.0 IP 5H 0BB 3K 1ER
As you can say neither team had much offense only big hit was 3 run HR by Pedro Alvarez

            Game 2 hosting Cubs:

Pirates win a pitching duel 1-0!
Matt Garza pitched 7.0IP gave up 6 hits 1 run (not earned). 0BB 7K
James McDonald pitched 4.0 before leaving with injury was pitching perfect game with 6k's when he left game. Giorando took over and pitched a perfect 3.2 innings with 5 k's. Chicago only mustered 1 hit in the 8th off Hughes.
Note: only run was scored on a theowing error

So results were very little offense

            Game 3 hosting Cubs

Pirates won 6-0! Looks like a lot of offense showed but really not the case Chicago's pitching staff hit 3 batters in one inning which was most of the runs plus 2 errors by Cubs.
Travis Wood pitched 5 innings gave up 3 hits, walked 0 and struck out 6 gave up 2 runs including a towering shot by Pedro Alvarez
Francisco Liriano pitched 9 innings gave up 2 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 12

            Trend continues with no offense

Game 4 Bucs travel to Dodger Stadium

Another pitchers duel but Pirates win 1-0
            Karstens (PIT) 6.0 IP 3H 3BB 8K 0ER
            Beckett (LAD) 6.2 IP 4H 1BB 13k 1ER

            No offense again!!!!

            Game 5 pirates at dodgers

            Pirates win 2-1!!!!!

A little bit of offense teams combined for 8 hits and 3 runs

My main of concern is lacked offense by both teams I love the way these play but offense seems to low. Here are some stats through 5 games

            Neil Walker 4 for 19 .211
            Andrew McCutchen 7 for 18 .389 7 hits 4 runs 1 double 1rbi leading pirates with 7 hits
Pedro Alvarez 5 for 18 .278 5 hits 3 runs 2HR 5 RBI. Leads pirates in HR and RBI

            Team totals 151 at bats 30 hits 13 runs 6 2b's 2HR 11 RBI 3BB 42K's .199 AVG
            Pitching: 45.0 IP 17H 2ER 10BB 48K 0.60 WHIP 0.40 ERA 3 quality starts 2 complete games, 3 shutouts, 3 saves

Any suggestions on getting CPU and Human to get more O!!!!
"New Uniforms, Same ole' Buffalo Bills!" All I want is a NEW Owner who wants to win!!!!

Been having a good time with PsychoBulk's sliders but I always try to play with all the sets before the OSFM drop, and these really intrigue me.

Gonna give these a shot through some franchise games as it's easier for me to track my stats. Think I'm gonna use the Giants as I haven't played with them yet, gonna throw a wrench in it though and add Barry Bonds to the lineup.

Re: Madman Sliders - Let Player Attributes Take Over the Game

Was too tired to play game one of the season so I watched it..

Don't have the game on right now but here are the stats I remember.

At the last minute I decided to strip Cain of the opening day honors and give them to Big Time Timmy Jim, and it paid off.

                Starting pitchers:
                SF: Tim Lincecum 9.0 IP 2H 0BB 8K 0ER (never hit 90 pitches)
                LA: Clayton Kershaw 4.2 IP 6H 5BB 9K 3ER (had 100+ pitches)

Barry Bonds was great. First at-bat watched four straight balls well off the plate.(never even took the bat of his shoulder). Next at-bat promptly smashed a 423 ft 2 run HR, also had a single and a K.

Dodgers had 2 hits, Giants had 10+ hits.

Unrelated note in Sim action the Pirates beat the Cubs down 16-0.

legendm0de, I'm totally with you on your method for finding sliders. But after one game, I can already tell you that you absolutely cannot zero out all the hitting sliders. The CPU (on Legend) does not hit anything well this year with zeroed sliders. Fielder throw strength has to be at least 1 or even 70 arm strength guys have noodles for arms.

I understand you but I have to point out there are over 100 videos I have of players hitting beautiful line drives, and triples, and doubles HRs, blooopers, choppers, pull shots, cool foul balls, etc , etc. I also have to take note when I feel offense was light, there are plenty of real mlb games daily where the winning team has less than 5 hits. MLB games turn out so many different kind of ways on a daily basis so that's why we have to wait until we see how things average out of a long span of time.

And defensively, I have experienced players, 3B'men gunning and infielders executing incredible looking plays on this game. I have never actually even seen any irregularities from an Outfielder in this game under this setup such as underthrown balls, certainly I haven't seen any of the weird stuff OFs could do under default condition in this game (as of MLB 12'). Overall defensively, these sliders have brought out wonderful major improvements.

But back to offensively, I understand you, but anyone would be severly mistaken to believe that offense lacks and won't ever be found, it could be just an inning away. I've never been more confident that offense is capable in this setup than now actually, having a few serious franchise mode games under my belt. I have have gotten a HR out of Rafael Furcal, and impressive hits from many of my minor leaguers while actually a few of my MLB sluggers have been the one's off to a slow start (after just 4/5 games though). The current game I'm in, one of my struggling sluggers, Matt Holliday, has broken out with 2 HRs, his first 2 hits of the Spring, he was o for 10 before today. On the cpu side, I've had my clock cleaned by the whole Boston Red Sox team in a game, from these early stages. And the usual suspects are always giving me an interesting at bat or coming away with a hit, doing something nice on the CPU side. I will be having specific numbers to share on my experience soon as I mentioned in the post above.

The consistency is what I'm investigating and the only real way to do so is, throw yourself in a full on franchise mode. Running into the glitchy issue I face above, is heck of a problem to push through though. A part of me says continue playing through it and enjoy the beautiful play you get frm the game despite the glitch. And that sounds great, until I imagine potentially being in a playoff or word series game and receiving an out based on a glitch like this! I could already feel the outrage, just thinking about it, and that's assuming I would even make it that far before losing it in the regular season in the first place. So my glitch issue needs some kind of resolution, as soon as possible.. still wondering what I could possibly do about it.

Starting off in spring training as I'm doing also sucks, because the game's ST logic is horrendous. Facing a clubs starting pitcher 2 or 3 different times, most of their best relievers and their whole MLB lineup for most of the game. While a player like my self is using his whole roster.

I'm a prof. athlete now in my own right and I could not handle the distractions this game brings so I cold-turkey stopped. What's going on now is:

                          dreadful

Not so much even on the statistical side. To this point after 5 or so games, less than 1 week worth of games played, overall there has been a slow start for a number of my players offensively yet great flashes of brilliance from others. Matt Holliday, for example had been about 0 for 10 to start the season off but got his first 2 hits, 2 HRS in just the last game, which is still in progress now on a save & quit. I'll get you guys a minutia update on all significant information (< oxymoron) very soon, probably once I complete the current game in progress. But here's why I can't complete it!

I have a video up on this that will bring you to tears laughing but it can't get posted online because MovieMaker all of a sudden doesn't work properly on my (albeit almost dilapidated) laptop. So basically, I'm subject to swinging and missing at a ball that Passes right through My Bat on some video game glitch s#^!. It's a rare occurance, more than 70% of the time my swing and misses are pure, just missed contact. However when you see that, in that picture above, it is so painful it can mess you up 3 and 4 at bats down the line, because your frightened to death that it'll happen again, plus your frustrated.

Obviously I couldn't carry on this way so I searched for some solutions over the past few days. And what I found doing so, is where I realized that I am currently stuck between a Rock (ie: what I mentioned above) and a Horrible place (ie: what I'm about to mention right now).

First thing I did, I moved Human & CPU contact up 1. Immediately, I noticed a few suspect foul balls, that I felt didn't get hit accurately. I could feel the game slowly straying from the authenticity of the madman sliders just from this slight change. But maybe my hawkeye was just too keen on this issue and I was over analyzing things. However, the last straw was when I played an exhibition and sure enough another ball swing and sailed right through my bat into the catchers mitt again. I continued to try a few more at bats but I wasn't feeling the whole thing and I shut everything off.

The next thing I tried was upping the Human/CPU timing up +1, with the rest of the madman sliders on its original setup. I Felt as if I was making significantly better contact and thought maybe I struck Gold. The contact was still noticeably giving leeway on borderline swings, leading to some more in-authentic contact, in my opinion. So again, I slowly felt a straying from the madman sliders authentic-ness in the contact department but honestly I was being very much so nit picky about this issue, and I could have tolerated it without a problem. However, once again a ball passed right through my bat about 2 times in one game and I felt disgusted again, so I quit.

Now for my final attempts to salvage the game, I reluctantly moved the timing up +2. I felt even more leeway on contact and it felt a little more in-authentic again, but still honestly I was very pleased. Untill,, a hanging, ****ty, loopy, high-hanging curveball passed right through Tyler Greene's bat and into the catchers mitt. Again I was disgusted. So the next morning (this morning) I went crazy and upped the HUMAN/CPU timing to it's default +5, and I went straight to the batting practice mode with Jonathan Singleton and Jared Cosart. The contact was so in-authentic I was disgusted, after the first BP. That timing window gave so much lee-way I was hitting ridiculous ground balls to 3B that should have been sprayed foul by a LHB like Singleton. I was spraying fly balls to LF, that should have been hit to CF/RF. Rarely does a left handed power bat hit a high middle of the plate FB to Left field, right? Anyhow, the lack of realism I felt in +5 timing upgrade, it wasn't even worth me continuing. So i went all the way back to the original madman sliders to compare, and the difference was just depressingly obvious.

So Now, I'm Stuck Between A Rock and a Hard Place of

Continuing to Anguish, Being Prone to a Glitch:

                          or

Torturing Myself Under Conditions, I No Longer Can Tolerate, missing the true effect of my sliders, to make drastic adjustments to them, just to cover up a glitch.

Here is the even worse part, I faintly recall seeing this as an issue many months ago, before I even made a sliders' adjustment, under the game's default settings. So honestly, I don't know if this is an issue of:

                          MLB The Show Glitches
                          Zone+Analog Batting Mechanics
Madman Sliders (and the drastic changes they bring)
Gameplay Difficulty (ie batting & pitching at Legend difficulty)

or a combination of all 4,
or something else that I've not even thought of or been aware of about the game.

So wish me luck and check into it yourselves, because I can't carry on until this issue is resolved. I can't count now how many times someones batting average has gone down because a ball simply passed right through his bat.

                          ------ edit -----

I'm going to try and get the video up of this, as soon as possible guys

The ball passing through the bat has been happening for YEARS, my friend.

Thanks for the info, I knew I have seen this before I just couldn't be sure. I didn't play MLB 12, too intensely until fever for the 2013 season and new game came around. Only other ps3 copy I have is 10' but I played 10's ps2 version for far longer than I did on PS3

Does anyone notice it still an issue in 13' ?

How does your K/9 and BB/9, or per game averages, look with Pitcher Control/Consistency at Zero?

MLB average is 15-K's per game and 6-BB per game, for both teams combined.

                              Thanks.

The ball passing through the bat has been said by the developers to be an illusion due to missing frames on replays. I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, just letting you know if you've never heard before.

For sliders, I've gone back to all default batting sliders. I was in total agreement with you that in past editions the zero theory was best for all sliders but '13 is a different story for me. My first game on legend with zero sliders resulted in 1 lazy deep fly for the CPU and that was it. I wasn't even trying that hard and pitching with Henderson Alvarez against the Nationals. I never once felt threatened as a pitcher the entire game, default may not be perfect but it's much closer than all zero sliders.
