Re: TNK - 2013 REALISM SLIDERS

I've always used Timing hitting, but through about 20 games in my franchise, my offensive production is not quite where I'd like it to be. I think one of the problems may relate to my using Timing: it seems like I hit a lot of weak popups and grounders on pitches that can and should be driven much harder. This is usually because the bat is not really where the pitch as, according to the small notification thing that comes up after every pitch. I am assuming that this is something that can be fixed (somewhat) by switching to Zone, am I correct? I'm just worried that I will suck at using Zone. I tried it once and can remember worrying more about moving the analog stick than paying attention to the pitch, thus chasing a lot of bad pitches. I think I'll give it another shot now. Can anyone who uses Zone offer me some advice on how to use it successfully? Does it take a few games to get used to?

I am using these sliders on the PS3 and Vita. I use zone & 99.9% of the time I never touch the analog stick. I am getting GREAT results. Focus on hitting pitches in the middle. Be patient, be selective & crush the ball when the pitcher give you something you can handle.

Re: TNK - 2013 REALISM SLIDERS

Love the sliders! I had to make a couple tweaks though as I use Zone plus Analog for my hitting, but I was just curious to know what is the average for hits per 9? Does about 8 hits in a game sound right? I am trying to tweak my sliders so that way I average about 8 hits per game. I want them to fall between 7-10, but I am shooting for 8. Also, what is the average K/9 rate? Does 9 K's per 9 sound about right? Just kind of wondering what other people average with these sliders. And also what is the real MLB average for K's/9 and H/9? What kind of batting average is normal for a team in the MLB or what kind of average should a guy shoot for with these sliders? Thanks

In 2012, MLB teams averaged approximately 8.65 hits per game and struck out 7.49 batters per game. Not per/9, though. Per team, per game.

            The average BA was .254.

TNK, have an idea where I can see more walks when I pitch? I'm getting them when I bat, being selective anything. But I want to get it a bit more realistic.

I actually throw some pitches outside on third strikes, sometimes they chase, sometimes they dont.

But I havent seen many walks when I pitch. Should I lower consistency?

Hey I just wanted to preface this with the fact that I absolutely love the sliders. I have had some really awesome & unique games so far with these.

For instance, I just carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning. The bullpen had to pitch the second through seven innings. This was because Tim Hudson was run for a retaliation plunking Of Ryan Howard in the 2nd inning after J-Hey took one in the ribs in the top
half of the inning. In the eighth inning, I ended up walking the bases loaded with Jordan Walden. Walden then walked in the first run of the game, mind you the Phillies still did not have a hit yet. Then a pinch-hitter finally broke through for Philadelphia driving in two runs on a single. I brought in Craig Kimbrell and close out the last four outs finishing a one hitter with a 5-3 final score.

My question to you is: are you seeing a lot of base hits down the line that just absolutely eat up the corner infielders? I feel like, regardless of fielders' ratings, the ball just goes straight through them for a base hit, even if it's a ball that even an average fielder should backhand, pick, etc. My problem is that I really like where the fielder reaction is that, with amount of base hits hit in the hole to shortstop or into right field past the diving second basemen. I worry that if I increase that slider, I won't get as many realistic infield hits or squeakers through the holes.

                What do you think?

Personally, I've changed my pitching difficulty to Legend, but left the pitching sliders themselves as TNK has them. Harder to hit your spots, less forgiveness, but I've found it balances out the game for me.

I probably walk the CPU on average 3-4 times per game.

TNK - BOSTON RED SOX FRANCHISE

Game #15 of the Season - Boston Red Sox @ Cleveland Indians

Pitching Matchup - John Lackey vs. Corey Kluber

The Red Sox and Indians play the 2nd game of this 3 game series in Cleveland as John Lackey faces Corey Kluber who was just recalled from AAA and will be making his 2013 debut

                    * The Red Sox opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd when Will Middlebrooks crushed an inside fastball from Kluber for a solo HR into the LF stands to give the Sox a 1-0 lead.

                    * Nick Swisher hammered a fastball from Lackey to begin the bottom of the 2nd inning but Jacoby Ellsbury tracked the ball down and made a great running catch as he crashed in the wall in CF for the out. Mark Reynolds doubled with two outs to give the Indians a man in scoring position. Michael Brantley singled into RF but Reynolds was held at 3rd as he didn't want to test the strong arm of Shane Victorino and the Tribe would have runners at the corners for Lonnie Chisenhall with two outs. Chisenhall had 2 strikes and fought off some pitches before lining an RBI single into RF to tie the score at 1-1. Lackey got out of the inning as Drew Stubbs flew out to RF to end the inning and we were tied 1-1 after 2 innings.

                    * Cleveland had Michael Bourn on 2nd base with 1 out in the bottom of the 3rd. Lackey struck out Jason Kipnis looking with a back door slider after a grueling 11 pitch at bat for the 2nd out. Nick Swisher followed with an 8 pitch at bat that ended with a fly out to Nava in deep LF to end the inning as Lackey wiggles out of danger to keep the score 1-1 after 3 innings of play.

                    * Kluber pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 4th and had retired 8 in a rwo. Lackey pitched around a leadoff walk to Santana in the bottom of the 4th and we would go to the 5th inning with the score tied 1-1.

                    * The Red Sox had two men on in the top of the 5th inning for Pedro Ciriaco with two outs. Kluber got out of the inning as he got Ciriaco to ground out to Chisenhall at 3rd base to keep it a 1-1 game.

                    * Asdrubal Cabrera singled with two outs in the bottom of the 5th but Lackey would get Kipnis to ground out to end the inning and we would go to the 6th inning tied up 1-1 as Kluber and Lackey are both pitching well.

                    * Shane Victorino was hit on the foot by a pitch from Kluber with 1 out in the top of the 6th. Victorino stole 2nd base and Dustin Pedroia lined an RBI single into CF to score Victorino and give the Sox a 2-1 lead. Mike Napoli followed with a single up the middle and Pedroia raced to 3rd to setup runners on the corners with 1 out for Will Middlebrooks as the Red Sox had a chance for a big inning. Terry Francona came out of the Cleveland dugout and made the move to Bryan Shaw out of the pen. Shaw uncorked a wild pitch to Middlebrooks allowing Pedroia to race home and make it 3-1 as Napoli advanced to 2nd base. Middlebrooks hammered a fastball over the head of Bourn in CF for an RBI double to make it 4-1. Shaw got Nava to ground out for the 2nd out of the inning. Shaw ran a slider inside that hit Saltalamacchia to setup runners on the corners with two outs but Mike Carp would fly out to CF to end the inning as the Red Sox push across 3 runs to take a 4-1 lead.

                    * Carlos Santana singled with 1 out in the bottom of the 6th and Lackey hit Mark Reynolds with a slider to give the Indians 2 men on with 1 out. Boston pitching coach Juan Nieves made a visit to the mound to try and settle Lackey down and give Koji Uehara time to get warm in the pen as Lackey was up to 90 pitches thrown. Michael Brantley ripped a single into RF past the dive of Mike Carp at 1st base to load the bases for Lonnie Chisenhall with 1 out. Lackey got a fly ball from Chisenhall to LF where Nava made the catch for the 2dn out but it was deep enough for Santana to score and make it a 4-2 game. Red Sox manager John Farrell made the move to Uehara with Drew Stubbs coming up as Lackey departs after 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Uehara got Stubbs to ground out to Ciriaco at SS to end the inning as Cleveland strands two men on base and we would go to the 7th inning with Boston leading 4-2.

                    * Rich Hill took over on the mound for Cleveland to begin the top of the 7th and gave up back to back singled to Ciriaco and Ellsbury to begin the inning. Cody Allen replaced Hill on the mound for Cleveland and Shane Victorino laid down a perfect drag bunt to reach base and the Sox had the bases loaded with nobody out and a chance to blow the game wide open. Allen unleashed a slider in the dirt that bounced away from Santana allowing Ciriaco to score and make it 5-2. Allen got Pedroia to pop up for the 1st out and Mike Napoli drew a walk to load the bases for Middlebrooks with one out. Joe Smith came in from the Cleveland bullpen to face Middlebrooks who was 3 for 3 with a single, double and HR in the game. Smith did a great job as he got Middlebrooks to bounce into a huge 6-4-3 double play to end the inning

                    * Asdrubal Cabrera turned on a fastball from Uehara and launched a solo HR to cut the Boston lead to 5-3 with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th. Uehara got Kipnis to fly out for the 2nd out before Nick Swisher singled into RF to bring up Carlos Santana with 2 outs. Uehara got squeezed on a 2 strike pitch to Santana as he thought he was out of the inning when he painted the corner but the umpire called it a ball and on the very next pitch Uehara left a fastball over the plate that Santana absolutely destroyed for a 452 foot 2-run HR to straight away CF to tie the game up at 5-5. Red Sox skipper John Farrell brought in Andrew Miller to replace Uehara on the mound and Miller struck out Mark Reynolds to end the inning and send the game to the 8th inning tied at 5-5.

                    * Joe Smith pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 8th for Cleveland to keep the score 5-5.

                    * Michael Brantley tripled to lead off the bottom of the 8th as he crushed a ball to RF that hit off the top of the wall just over the glove of Victorino who made a great leaping attempt to catch the ball. Mike Aviles came on as a pinch hitter for Chisenhall and Boston would counter by bringing in Andrew Bailey from the pen. Bailey came in and got a huge strikeout of Aviles for the 1st out with Brantley still at 3rd base representing the go ahead run. Bailey struck out Drew Stubbs on a 96 mph fastball at the letters for the 2nd out of the inning as he was one out away from pitching out of a huge jam. Michael Bourn was up next and Bailey got him to ground out to Pedroia at 2nd base as Bailey does a tremendous job as he came on with the go ahead run on 3rd base with nobody out and he pitched out of it to keep the game tied.

                    * Pedro Ciriaco lined a ball towards the gap to begin the top of the 9th but was robbed on a diving catch by Brantley to save extra bases for the 1st out. Jacoby Ellsbury picked up his 3rd hit of the game as he singled to CF with one out. Ellsbury stole 2nd base to move into scoring position and Victorino would strike out for the 2nd out. Dustin Pedroia was up next and he delivered in a big spot as Smith left a slider up in the zone that Pedroia hammered off the wall in LF for an RBI double to give the Sox a 6-5 lead. Vinnie Pestano relieved Smith on the mound and he got Napoli to pop out with a full count to end the inning and we would go to the bottom of the 9th with Boston leading 6-5.

                    * The Indians would come up for their final at bat in the bottom of the 9th trailing 6-5 as Boston closer Joel Hanrahan came in looking to close things out. Hanrahan froze Asdrubal Cabrera with a 98 mph fastball on the outside corner for the 1st out. Jason Kipnis flew out to Ellsbury in CF for the 2nd out and the Indians were down to their final out. Hanrahan had 2 strikes on Nick Swisher but Swisher was able to punch a bloop single into RF to keep the game alive and put the tying run on base with Carlos Santana coming up next. Hanrahan finished it off by striking out Santana swinging on a 98 mph inside fastball as the Red Sox win a thriller 6-5.

This was a great game!!!! Andrew Bailey was the star of the game as he came on with the go ahead run on 3rd base for Cleveland with no outs in the bottom of the 8th and pitched out of the jam with 2 huge strikeouts and ground out. Will Middlebrooks paced the Red Sox offense as he finished a triple shy of the cycle and Dustin Pedroia delivered a big RBI double with 2 outs in the top of the 9th to give Boston the lead.

The teams will play the rubber match of this 3 game series tomorrow as the Red Sox send Jon Lester to the mound against Justin Masterson for the Indians in a battle of aces.

Re: TNK - 2013 REALISM SLIDERS

Just wanted to pop in and say a couple things.

First of all wanted to say glad your ok TNK, and hopefully things can somewhat get back to normal for you and everyone up there.

Secondly wanted to let everyone know these play even better than before with the new OSFM hybrid roster that Willard and ACMilan have orchestrated.

Just started my annual Braves chise to go along side my annual Yankees chise.

Opening day was a great game.

First inning went scoreless, then Hudson ran into some problems in the second allowing 3 runs on some nice hitting from the Phils.

After the second Hudson really settled down and neither pitcher allowed anything until the bottom of the fifth. After a deep flyout to right by Evan Gattis on a change he should have crushed but just missed, Hudson who was over the 70 pitch mark managed to work a 6 pitch one out walk. Simmons hit a weak popup to the catcher for the second out. Heyward somehow managed to fight off a pitch way inside and got it to land just inside the left field line for a single. Then Justin Upton stepped up worked a 2-1 count then crushed a 3-run shot to straight away center to tie it up at 3 a piece.

Hudson threw a 1,2,3 6th. Then after a one out single by Uggla Hamels got the hook after just 5.1 innings. Aumonte managed to finish out the inning unevently.

Hudson came back for the 7th and got the first batter he faced then allowed a single and after 95+ pitches and 6.1 innings he was done. The pen couldn't hold it for him though and allowed the run to score to make it 4-3 Phillies.

That score held till the bottom of the ninth where the Braves had Gattis, Walden, and Simmons due up.

Gattis struck out on a very very generous call on a outside slider from Papelbon. "Fat" Juan Francisco hit for the pitcher and grounded out for the second out. So with 2 outs and down by one Andrelton Simmons came up, he was 1-3 with a crushed ball to left center where he somehow got thrown out at third. So he watched the first pitch for a ball, and the second for ball 2. Then he took a strike, he absolutely hammered the fourth pitch to left and it looked like he had tied it but somehow Brown managed to just make the over the shoulder catch to end it.

Really great game! The guys did a great job with the edits, the players felt even more like themselves in this one.

P.S: TNK I'm 21 games into my Yanks chise so I'll have that 40 game update for you sometime soon. I'm gonna post one of my games from that chise soon just to kinda update the progress record wise and such. Also just had a horrible trip to Toronto, got swept and they just hammered everything. For some reason I just couldn't keep them in the park. But won the first game in Tampa so trying to get back on track.

Also wanted to add in that win against Tampa Phil Hughes went 7 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts. After coming into that game with a 0-2 record a +5 ERA and just 9K in his first three starts. So really nice variety there.

Ok as usual this is a great game, and perhaps better than last years rendition right out of the box. With that being said, this game is once again the classic nubber ball/pitching duel every game. When I do get hits they are either singles or home runs. Every game seems to be decided by one or two runs. I think I have had only 3 games out of 15 decided by more than 2 runs. And doubles omg I swear I am more happy to get a double than a home run! Sometimes, if I hit a triple I will just stop at second to get a double, as triples are a volatile stat and I can live with my hitters ending the year with zero triples. Strikeouts only seem to be realistic with each teams top two starters. With Strasburg and Gonzalez my numbers are nice, but with the rest of my rotation completely unrealistic. Zimmerman, Detwiler, and Haren all have around 5 to 6 strikeouts total for their first three starts. Once again, the constant pitching duels have left most of their records undecided even after dominating performances. I love having intense games, but cmon I need a blowout and so does the opposing team every so often. Well, I was just wondering where to go from here? I mean I love this game so I am going to keep playing it regardless, just looking for some insight. BTW I am not blaming this on the sliders as they are incredible, this is a game issue, so thanks for the time you spent on these TNK!

I was also seeing the same small variety of games and what I did that has made a world of difference is I switched to classic pitching. I kept all the sliders the same and the games have been all over the place.

The offensive numbers I was getting seemed pretty much right on but the CPU just didn't seem like it was challenging enough. So as soon as I switched to classic pitching it basically made every pitch feel like there was a purpose behind it.

There were just some games where the CPU was hitting everything and I mean everything and while yea it was frustrating the next game would be totally different.

As an example my 3 game series with the Royals. I won the first game of the series 4-2, won the second game of the series 3-1 after being shutout for 8 innings. Was able to win it on a 3 run walk off home run which was awesome.

The last game of the series it was like the Royals were mad about the previous two games and they hammered me 15-6. Now I haven't seen many 15-6 games but I have been seeing all kinds of scores at the end of games.

Using classic pitching seems like the most realistic way to pitch to me at least now.

Still chugging along with this set.
Currently 14-6 in my franchise. I'm in first place with a 2 game lead over the Yankees.

                              Last game against Oakland.

TNK - BOSTON RED SOX FRANCHISE

Game #16 of the Season - Boston Red Sox @ Cleveland Indians

Pitching Matchup - Jon Lester vs. Justin Masterson

The Red Sox and Indians play the rubber match of this 3 game series in Cleveland after splitting the 1st two games. Both teams will send their ace to the mound as Jon Lester takes on Justin Masterson.

                                * The Red Sox got back to back singles from Ellsbury and Victorino to start the game and setup runners at the corners with nobody out. Victorino stole 2nd base to move into scoring position. Dustin Pedroia grounded out to Cabrera to drive in Ellsbury and make it 1-0. Mike Napoli and Will Middlebrooks flew out to end the inning as Masterson escapes the inning allowing just the one run to score.

                                * Cleveland had two men on base with two outs in the bottom of the 2nd when Carlos Santana hit the ball hard towards the gap in right center but Jacoby Ellsbury made a nice catch on the run to end the inning and we would go to the 3rd inning with Boston leading 1-0

                                * Jacoby Ellsbury singled to lead off the top of the 3rd inning, stole 2nd base and then came in to score on an RBI single by Dustin Pedroia to make it a 2-0 game. Masterson limited the damage again as he got Napoli to ground into an inning ending 6-4-3 double play.

                                * Drew Stubbs doubled off the wall in CF to lead off the bottom of the 3rd and Michael Bourn laid down a perfect bunt for a single to give the Indians runners at the corners with nobody out. Michael Brantley picked up an RBI with a sac fly to CF to score Stubbs and make it a 2-1 game. Nick Swisher stuck out as Bourn stole 2nd base to move into scoring position with two outs. Mark Reynolds was up next and he turned on an inside cutter from Lester and blasted a 2-run HR down the LF line to put Cleveland ahead 3-2.

                                * Jon Lester was struggling with location and walked Asdrubal Cabrera to begin the bottom of the 4th and then threw a wild pitch allowing Cabrera to move up to 2nd base. Carlos Santana lined an RBI single into LF to make it 4-2. Lester walked Michael Bourn with two outs but bounced back to strike out Michael Brantley looking to end the inning and the Indians had a 4-2 lead after 4 innings.

                                * The Red Sox got singles from Pedroia and Middlebrooks to bring up Jonny Gomes with two men on and one out in the top of the 6th. Masterson bounced a sinker in the dirt and Pedroia got thrown out when he started to advance and then tried to get back to 2nd base for the 2nd out on a huge base running blunder. Gomes hammered a pitch down the LF line for what would have been a game tying HR but the ball hooked just foul past the pole and Masterson would eventually strike him out as the Sox blow a good chance and the score remained 4-2.

                                * Lester picked up back to back strikeouts of Stubbs and Bourn to end the bottom of the 6th as he has battled his way through 6 tough innings on the mound and kept his team in the game as we would go to the 7th with Cleveland leading 4-2

                                * Stephen Drew clobbered a 427 foot solo HR to CF for his 1st HR of the season to cut the Indians lead to 4-3 with 1 out in the top of the 7th. Masterson hit Jackie Bradley with a slider that ran in and Indians manager Terry Francona would make the move to Rich Hill with the top of the Red Sox order coming up and one out in the inning. Hill got a big strikeout of Ellsbury for the 2nd out. Hill then struck out Victorino but the ball bounced away from Santana behind the plate allowing Victorino to reach and bring up Dustin Pedroia with two men on. Hill avoided disaster though as he would get Pedroia to ground out to Kipnis to end the inning with Cleveland leading 4-3.

                                * Michael Brantley hit a solo HR down the RF line to lead off the bottom of the 7th to make it 5-3 and that would be all for Lester as he would depart and Alfredo Aceves would come in from the pen. Aceves came in and struck out the side to send the game to the 8th inning with Cleveland up 5-3.

                                * Mike Napoli reached base to begin the top of the 8th when Asdrubal Cabrera bobbled a hard hit grounder. Will Middlebrooks put a charge into the ball for what loked like a game tying HR but Bourn tracked the ball down on the warning track in CF for the out. Bryan Shaw came on to relieve Hill on the mound and got Gomes to pop up for the 2nd out of the inning. David Ross flew out to CF to end the inning and keep it a 5-3 game.

                                * Aceves set the Indians down in the bottom of the 8th and we would go to the 9th inning with the Red Sox trailing 5-3.

                                * Indians closer Chris Perez came on to pitch the top of the 9th in the save situation with a 5-3 lead. Stephen Drew hit the ball hard on a line but it was right at Bourn in CF who made the catch for the 1st out. Mike Carp came on to pinch hit for Jackie Bradley and lined a single to CF to give the Sox life as they would bring the tying run to the plate. Jacoby Ellsbury was up next and he jumped all over the 1st pitch he saw but was robbed of extra bases on a fantastic diving catch by Bourn in CF and the Red Sox were down to their final out. Shane Victorino grounded out to Swisher at 1st base for the final out as Perez nails down the save and the Red Sox lose 5-3.

The Indians win 5-3 to take the series from the Red Sox who fall to 11-5 on the season. The Red Sox will return home to Fenway Park to begin a 10 game home stand with a 3 game series against the Kansas City Royals.

The Red Sox offense will get a big boost as David Ortiz will return to the lineup after missing the first 16 games of the season recovering from a foot injury.

Jackie Bradley Jr. will be sent down to AAA Pawtucket to make room for Ortiz on the roster.
