    Very, Very Specific Slider Questions

For the record, I did search, couldn't find answers to my questions, so here goes. At the risk of sounding stupid and/or rephrasing the same questions…

    Specifically in RTTS mode:

    • Do the "human" batting and pitching sliders affect just myself, or my teammates as well?

    • Are the "CPU" pitching sliders truly global, affecting all CPU controlled pitchers? (teammate pitching and opposing pitching)

    • Ditto for the batting? (i.e. CPU batting sliders globally affect teammates and opposing batters)

    • Does the pitching difficulty setting (Rookie, Veteran, All-Star, etc.) have anything to do with the game if I'm not a pitcher?

    • Do the CPU batting sliders only matter if I am a pitcher? (i.e. whenever I see "CPU" in a slider should I think "CPU only when vs. human"?)

    Extra credit questions:

    • With RTTS game watch set to "off/classic" (so simulating innings until the RTTS player is involved) what governs the gameplay? Sliders? Or pure player stats fed through the sim engine?

    • With RTTS game watch set to "result play" or "all pitches" (therefore watching the entire game in the 3D engine) do sliders affect the gameplay differently than the above?

Again, these may seem like stupid questions, but I'm discovering more and more sliders are "interconnected".

Re: Very, Very Specific Slider Questions

Really sorry. Could a mod move this to the Sliders sub forum?

        • No, CPU sliders control all CPU-controlled players, regardless of whose team they are on.

        • ^ Ya

        • Again, see above, All CPU sliders affect all CPU-controlled players.

        • No... difficulty level only affects you and/or your opponent -- You have to be involved in the matchup of batter vs pitcher. If you are watching the game, managing the game, a baserunner in the game, etc... difficulty level is ignored.

        • See first answer. Any time gameplay is actually occuring, the CPU sliders are in play. Doesn't matter where you are, baserunner, teammate, pitcher, etc...

        "Extra Credit" (lol)
        • The sim engine determines everything... I'm actually not sure how things work in terms of simulating until an opportunity... I was going to get to that, so I'll touch on that below.

        • If I understand correctly, the answer is no. The simulation engine decides when the result play occurs (ie: it determines the count), then the gameplay engine, and sliders, take over for that one pitch. If you view all pitches then the gameplay engine has full control over everything.

        ---
The only thing I'm not sure about is how things work with regard to the overlap between the sim engine and the gameplay engine. When you are an outfielder, and the game sims until you have a fielding opportunity... when I think about that, it seems like the simulation engine is determining that a ball will be hit to the outfield (or towards it... sometimes it's stopped in the infield).

The fact that sometimes you get fielding opportunites that aren't actually opportunities (someone else catches the ball, or it never even makes it to you), makes me think that the gameplay engine is fully at play here... Since the game doesn't predict or pre-determine anything during gameplay, that would make sense. But at the same time, I've never had a "fielding" opportunity where the batter missed the ball completely, so contact itself must be forced by the simulation engine?

So honestly I have no idea how this area works, but if I were to guess, I'd say the game uses simulation engine to determine when and if contact will be made, and then lets actual physics and gameplay take over from there... which would mean your sliders should come into play, but it's possible only certain ones.

        I don't know.

Thank you very much! This cleared a lot up for me. Interesting thoughts about the fielding opportunities, too — I hadn't thought of that.

Yeah this is indeed a mystery. I'm almost tempted to play my RTTS this year all using results play and see what actually is going on. (In reality it's too much chore that I wouldn't probably do it.) But I think this implementation is very important if the game eventually moves into the territory of generated counts for speeding up the game. Hope things stay sim.
