    Decreasing doubles

Through 15 games in my Reds franchise, I'm team is currently in first place with 37 doubles, which is 2.4 doubles a game. My team is averaging just at 9 hits per game so about 27% of my hits are doubles. Granted most of these doubles are in the gap and not down the line. Can anyone be willing to fill me in on which slider(s) I should consider adjusting, or should I just play more games and see if they even out? Here are the sliders I am using for hitting/fielding...

    Difficulty: All-star (Timing)
    Contact: 5
    Power:4
    Timing:3
    Solid hits:2

    Base-runner speed:4
    Fielder speed: 2
    Fielder arm: 3

Who's getting them? Like is it your faster guys i.e. Phillips, Choo, or are you getting to many with guys who shouldn't be getting a ton?

    Also what's your reaction setting?

I guess I should I mention that but reaction is at 7.

Here are some of my players 2B stats:
      Phillips:7
      Cozart: 6
Votto, Bruce and Frazier have 4
      Heisey: 3
      Choo:2

So nothing out of the ordinary. I even lowered Phillips speed to 61 since he isnt that fast anymore, but I cant get Choo to hit anything but singles.

Your singles problem probably has a little to do with solid hits I really don't like having it below three.

        Two more questions for you:

        1. Are you getting into second well before the throw or are they close plays?

        2. Would you say most of your good hits go in the gaps or do you get about the same amount down the lines as well?

I was thinking about decreasing contact down to 4 and bumping up solid hits to 3. But I would say the doubles in the gaps are stand up doubles, the ones down the line are close plays. And most of my good hits are gappers, I do get a few down the line but most of the time they are cut off and end up being singles.

That sounds good, I would also consider upping your timing by one to allow yourself to make better hits on early and late swings to allow for a little more variety on your good hits.

Insert shameless plug here: if you can't get a happy medium maybe try out my sliders, but I would definitely try what you said and consider upping timing.

Thanks for the input man, after taking a look at them I think I'm actually gonna use your hitting sliders and see how that works.

Edit: Timing would affect strikeouts right? In comparison to years in the past, I'm not striking out that much at all, I'm usually dead last but I'm around 6 strikeouts a game. But decreasing contact would counter the change to timing right?

Yeah timing would effect misses on early/late swings, but strikeouts are the reason I decreased contact to 4.

I've also stopped using the contact swing because it was resulting in way to low of strikeouts on my in.

                  Re: Decreasing doubles

Extra-base hit ratios are all about the balance between fly balls and line drives. Most fly balls that are not caught end up as extra-base hits. Most line drives that are not caught end up as only singles.

You have a lot of options here. You can decrease Power 1 point and fewer deep fly balls will reach the wall (more will be cutoff for singles).
You can decrease Contact 1 point and get the same effect, albeit a lot stronger.
You can also decrease Timing 1 point and you will still get fewer deep fly balls, because hard hits are tied to perfect timing, so shrinking the window affects that as well.

Whatever you do, just increase Solid Hits 1 or 2 points to maintain batting averages/overall offense.

Thanks Bobhead, I think I'm going to try decreasing contact first while bumping up solid hits and see how those results are.
