    Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

    Hi Don,

    Thank you for writing back Sir.

    First of all I am thrilled to see that there are so many dedicated Roster Builders (true historic baseball fans) here in this Forum and MLB The Show. I have been a fan of OOTP baseball because of it's true outcome in play. That game is built on statistics. I truly love the game-play and true to life graphics of MLB. There's nothing like seeing Mickey Mantle hit another out.

    I downloaded and am using Biebig2010's 50-60s, and 70-80s sets so far, and they are great.

    When I spoke last with Biebig2010 on The Show Nation forums he told me he has already started making another Set of Rosters that would include those players who weren't on his Original 50-60s set. So naturally I am in heaven with that news. Me missing a few of the old Brooklyn Dodgers, ha ha.

    Don I commend your thoughts and ideas on a possible upcoming 50s set, and all they those teams are all great choices.

    I did download and am just getting into the Early 60s set now. Wow, so many greats. MLB 14 The Show is great, but for me it is great because of the Roster makers themselves.

    take care, and thank you ever so much
    Bob Paulsen

      Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

      Bob,

      Not sure how interested, if even at all, in Old School PC Baseball games you might be. But, for historical accuracy no game has yet come close to measuring up to the old EA Sports game of MVP Baseball 2005.

      Many fabulous Old Time Baseball enthusiast & unbelievably talented modders came together over the past 10+ years and have created a vast assortment of Old Time Seasons for that PC Game which still to this day sells for > $50 on eBay due to what has been done with it since it's arrival.

      When you have a moment just check out www.mvpmods.com and in particular all the Total Classics mods available for that PC Game. I know for certain there is a '51, '56 & '58 full season mod available plus several '40s, 5 60s (61,62,64,67,69) and several '70s. Even a '30 or two plus even a couple Negro League Seasons, some All-Time Rosters, Japanese Leagues (i.e. Nippon League), Caribbean Leagues etc etc etc.

      In each of those you will not only have authentic uniforms but also authentic Stadiums, Schedules, # of Teams per League, bats, balls, gloves, cleats etc etc from those time periods/specific years.

      To top that off you can also select to have something we called "Legends from the Booth" which has Mel Allen, Ernie Harwell & Vin Scully doing the play-by-play and color - a truly amazing accomplishment that took over 3 years to complete.

      If you have any questions about any of those things please don't hesitate to ask since I was one of the original members of what we called our "Total Classics" Team which put that all together.

      Take Care,
      Don

        Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

        Don, I am so glad that I subscribed to your thread "Early 60s Playoff Ready Roster" so I won't miss a new thing that will be posted here!!!

        Wholly Smokes, I just don't know what to say about all the Classic Teams and years available for MVP2005 thanks to all the mods from the site you've provided! You know I will check it all out, first step, get ahold of MVP2005.

        I would just go completely "nuts" if MLB The Show had all those teams, I particularly would love the '51 Season. The Movie "42" has really re-kindled my interest in early Baseball history.

        A little sidenote: When I was just an early teen, I actually did meet Jackie and Rachel Robinson in San Francisco, and they were such gracious folks. A couple of years ago I met and spoke with Will Clark, (former Giant) and I told him that he was the "Second Distinguished Big League Player I have met." He asked who was the first, and when I told him Jackie Robinson, boy did his eyes got really big.

        Wouldn't it be something too, if "The Show" would have such Broadcast Legends as Ernie Harwell, Vince Scully or Russ Hodges, Matt V is getting a little monotonous.

        Love MLB The Show, and hope to see improvements, Me need Ralph Branca on my team, ha ha.

        Thank you Don, appreciate your lead for MVP2005 and the Classics.

        take gentle care,
        Bob Paulsen, (an old baseball nut foggie)

          Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

          Bob,

          Funny you mentioned Will Clark. As he went to the same high school as my 3 sons here in New Orleans (Jesuit High School) as did Rusty Staub (one of my favorites of all time).

          Even more funny regarding Will Clark is when the kids were younger we took them to an Astros game against the Giants specifically to see Will the Thrill and as luck would have it he never even paid us any attention during the 1st game as we got there early with our Jesuit High School signs and all. But on the 2nd game of the series we arrived really early and as he was taking batting practice he lined a shot foul down the 1st base line into the corner of the right field stands where we were sitting in the front row and it hit my wife in the shoulder. The ushers quickly came and took her away to get checked as she was hurting but was saying everything was all right. Well in about the 5th inning she returned in a sling because her collarbone had been cracked and they assured her all related doctor bills would be covered by the Astros. Well, apparently the next day before the final game of the series Will Clark had been told about the incident and came over in the corner to ask if she was OK and signed everything we could put in front of him plus let us take photos of him with the kids. I was wearing my sons glove when he hit that shot and had my sights directly on it as it got really close until some fan stood up in front of me and I totally lost sight of it and had to shield my head then it went right by me hitting my wife in the shoulder as she stood behind me. What memories !

            Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

            Bob,

            I just checked and there are several MVP 2005 PC games available on eBay at the moment. Cheapest being $59.99 which isn't far off the best price you would likely be able to get if you hold off awhile.

            However, I think with your '50s enthusiasm it, in my opinion, is well worth the price. I think you will find it to be an exceptionally great game.

            I personally have 3 copies of it and won't part with any of them as I certainly will return to enjoy it even though The Show has me captured at the moment.

            Of course, MLB The Show has it beat totally in the graphics department but MVP 2005 is not all that bad in the graphics arena and plays every bit as good as The Show as far as recreating a realistic game of baseball based on Players attributes. MVP 2005 has all the individual player/pitcher attributes as does The Show and probably a few more. It is a game based on physics just like The Show and the players/pitchers realistic performances are every bit as good or perhaps a tad better in MVP 2005.

            It doesn't take an extremely powerful PC to run it at it's best as you might expect since it is a 10+ year old game. Player faces are exceptional & the Old Time Stadiums are truly magnificent in detail. You will feel like you are back in the '50s for sure. Some of the teams even allow no batting helmets although not all do.

            Feel free to PM me if you care to discuss it in what ever detail you might care to and I will send you my home phone # so you can give me a call if you would like. I always enjoy introducing someone to that masterpiece of baseball history.

              Hi Don,

              Sorry I haven't replied earlier, I've have been getting into some games with the Early 60's set, and I find it's very fantastic!

              What I may do is move some of the key players from Biebig50-60s set into your Early 60's and see how they play there. Still hoping Biebig will complete another set as he said to fill in those who were missing.

              Right now I am enjoying the Early 60s set a lot and so i will wait for awhile before I may purchase MVP2005. MLB The Show's Manage Game is a great option and very enjoyable for me also.

              Small world isn't it, Will Clark and your kids going to the same HS. I am very thankful that there are so many great Mods into The Show. I was hesitant to buy the game and a Play Station, thinking it would be kid's stuff, after OOTP baseball.

              take care, and thank you Don again,

                  Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

                  Good evening Don,

                  The more I am getting into your set Don, the more I am enjoying it. The faces look very real to me and love seeing the Old-Timers from the 60s.

                  Just finished another game, the '64 Phillies beat the Giants 8 to 1 at SFran. Jack Sanford wasn't sharp on his game. Bunning did very well. I may make an alteration on Bunnings windup, (makes me dizzy watching him), but I won't touch any of his attributes. Bobby Shantz pitched the last 2 innings and gave up the only Giants run. Great Game!

                  I commend and thank you Don and all the other contributors who assisted in this exceptional Rosters addition.

                  Now that I am retired I have a little more time to enjoy MLB The Show. 33 years in the Print Shop and Newspapers, and 15 Driving Charter Coaches in San Francisco and most all of CA. Me tired of CA now, ha ha. Now in Northern AZ near Flagstaff and loving it!

                  Take care my friend, thank you ever so much for everything,

                    Hello again Don,

                    Really enjoying your Early 60s Ver. 1 In reading this Thread now I see that there is another version of your Early 60s set that has been re-rated using Tommys '67 rating system and that it is said to be Superb.

                    Question: How can anyone improve on Perfect? Ha ha. Should I look for this New-Improved set, I believe it is called Early 60s WIP or is the Ver 1 that I have downloaded the right one. Shoot, I'm plenty happy with the Vers. 1, but I'd like to check the WIP version out.

                    I know it's way down the road (and actually only a thought now) with so many other Great Teams to be rated and uploaded first, but I sure hope to see those possible '50s Teams you mentioned.

                    Terrible Aren't I?????

                    take care Don, hope I'm not to big a pest,

                      Bob ..... You have the latest and greatest.

                      I will likely upload an Early '60s V1.01 mid-late next week or so as it will have the 4 '69 inaugural teams completed (SDP,MON,KCR,SEA) along with the Miami Marlins which is a team made up of non starters and or players from 1960-1964 that weren't on any of the teams used in the set. Players like Ted Williams, Duke Snider etc etc ...... but mostly secondary type players from that time period. I really enjoy playing with those teams. Miami is built like TOR, MIL, COL, ARZ & TAM will be as well.

                      Take Care,
                      Don

                        Hello again Don,

                        Before I say another word, I truly want you to know that I am loving all this stuff, thankyou. Most certainly you and your fellow Roster creators who have and are assisting in your efforts are so much appreciated.

                        MLB The Show is a fantastic game for this 'ol baseball nut, but if it were not for yours and your compadres efforts The Show 14 would be of little interest to me. For sure MVP2005 would be my Game of choice then.

                        That's great news too, that another Early 60s set (V1.01) is just around the corner. You're amazing Don!

                        In looking at the '51 Dodgers team there's only 3 starting players who were'nt on the '55 Dodgers team. Billy Cox, Preacher Roe, and Ralph Branca. They all were just finishing up their Careers and didn't play into the 60s. Don could they possibly be included in one of your upcoming sets somehow? I do apologize for even asking, me just has a huge Nostalgic craze for all this stuff big-time, Ralph Branca, Bobby Thomson, et all.

                        As a show of appreciation I would be so happy to send perhaps a gift certificate for a dinner out for you and the Misses, something to make it right for sure. It would certainly be my pleasure Sir.

                        Take care Don, and please excuse if I may be inappropriate.
                        most sincerly,
                        Bob Paulsen

                        ps: I never mean to be a pest, a fellow baseball nut and friend, yes!

                          I can make those 3 players (Billy Cox, Preacher Roe, and Ralph Branca) for you and place them in the minors of one the teams. Then all you would have to do is move them to where you would like to.

                          What Season do you want them made for ? 1951 or 55 ?

                          Truly appreciate your gracious offer but I absolutely do this "For The Love of the Game" and nothing else.

                            Hi Don,

                            The '51 Season for all 3.
                            Preacher Roe was 22-3, Ralph Branca was 13-12, and of course Billy Cox was a great fielding 3rd baseman. It's all in our Reference materials.

                            Don, I have OOTP 15 and it is a great game and resouce as it lists every player and their attributes on a yearly basis. I am especially into the pitchers themselves, and it lists the pitches they had, movement, control, velocity, and break. It also has lists the pitcher's ability to Hold Runners, Stamina, and you name it, it's there.

                            I have tried and tried unsuccessfully to make some of these players myself. Example, Bobby Shantz. I put in all the attributes for pitching, Hits, BB, SO, HRs and it just doesn't play out right.

                            Example year, 1959:

                            IP = 94
                            Hits = 64
                            ER = 25
                            HR = 4
                            BB = 33
                            SO = 66

                            You'd think these numbers then would make an accurate player. Nope, there's something more to it than I can figure out. The best I can come up with is another player's stats that are similar or close enough to use percentage wise.

                            Don I wouldn't ask if I could make these myself and that's a true statement! To do it right using the Roster Calculators available I would need to upgrade my computer big-time, that's for sure.

                            Thank you Don, really and truly for understanding and being so helpful. I'll really owe you one for this. Something will come up that I can repay your kindness.

                            Take gentle care my friend, and much apapreciated.

                              Bob,

                              I use OOTP 14 for a Pitchers Pitch repertoire Types (my companions use OOTP 15) and also use it for input into a simple calculator I made for generating their Movement & Control using OOTP's overall Movement, Control & Individual Pitch quality ratings.

                              We have it down to such a process that it really takes all the personal decisions out of it except for things like a pitchers delivery, batter stance, accessories etc etc etc.

                              I think I could send you the spreadsheet output from JTommy67's calculator for the season you are interested in then it would only take your computers' ability to use a simple spreadsheet program and if it is now running OOTP then obviously you have one already. In fact, I run JTommy67's calculator on an 8 year old Sony laptop.

                              What I would suggest, if you really would like to make your very own really good players, is that you download JTommy67's calculator from here http://www.operationsports.com/forum...-included.html and see if you can at least install it and get it to produce anything on your computer.

                              Then I can send you my simple spreadsheet for calculating a Pitcher's ratings for Movement & Control of each of his pitch types.

                              Then we can speak on the phone and I can easily walk you through this whole process in a matter of minutes plus of course you will be able to call me back whenever any questions come up while you are creating your own players.

                              It truly is extremely simple with the way we are doing it now and if you think you would enjoy learning how just let me know. I assure you within a couple days of trial and error you will be totally ready to begin building your own 1950's rosters and they will be every bit as good as what we are doing relative to performance and also equally as good to appearance if you put in the time to make them look good too !

                                Bob,

                                I just tested creating a Microsoft Excel '97 spreadsheet from the output of an entire 1951 season from JTommy67's calculator and it worked find. Although it loses some of JTommy67's spreadsheet functionality it does produce a version that is fully capable of providing you everything you need to build a roster/player/pitcher from as the functionality it loses during this process is not anything you need or I use when building a roster set.

                                Thus, if your computer has the capability of running Microsoft Excel '97 or even perhaps the free version of Open Office's spreadsheet then we can easily get this working on your computer via me creating full season rosters for you and turning them into Excel '97 files then sending them to you to work with.

                                Just let me know and I will be more than happy to do such plus walk you through step by step how to do this stuff to complete success !
