Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

Don thank you so much for taking the time and sending me the link to Tommys' 67 Roster builder utility. I just did download and extract it, and I am VERY INTRIGUED by the possibilities. Wow!

My Computer knowledge is very limited, so it may be more than I can handle.

    Like step one says

Click on Windows icon on the top left, OK did that with Right click,
I went down to the File listing and there it gives the option
Convert PDF file to Word of Excel Online. So not sure if that's the correct one or not.

It all looks so good, and possibly like SECOND NATURE for someone who knows, I will look into it a lot more as it really has my interest. I may be opening up a "Can of Worms" so to speak tho. Me still trying to figure out how to Export/Import a player from one Roster to another.

I'll check to see if I have Microsoft Excel '97 or something that will work. It may take me some time.

I'd truly like to get it going so I can re-create my own players, (as long as it turns out accurately), but me a computer dunce.

take care my friend, rest easy, it's all good.
    Sincerly,
    Bob P

Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

      Hi again Don,

My computer is an older Dell XP and I checked, it does not have Microsoft 97 Excel. That's OK because I'm pretty sure (knowing my lack of computer skills) that my creating any Roster or individual players would be a most difficult task and Don as good as your intentions are, I would just become a pest needing so much help, and that's not what I want or do very well at all.

Your Early 60's set is fantastic Don and with even more to come. I doubt I could ever need anything more. There's a lot happening with the different mods too, and in time I'm pretty sure some more 50s teams will become available. Biebig2010 has mentioned on the Forums he has something in the works already. Patience is a virtue they say.

If you can add Billy Cox, Ralph Branca and Preacher Roe to an upcoming set that would be so appreciated.

Thank you Don, I'd love to do it myself, but I know my limitations too.

take care and thanks for everything,
      your friend, Bob Paulsen

Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

        Bob,

I completely understand and will be more than happy to do those 3 players as soon as I can get to them which likely will be later this week or over the weekend at the latest.

Reason I am putting doing these off, as I was almost going to get to them last night, is a few weeks ago I discovered an old time Boxing game for the PS3 (I still use my PS3 for NCAA Football). This game is Fight Night Champion (I actually started with it's predecessor Fight Night Round 4). There are many old time Boxers already in the game and almost unlimited ones to download from it's vault. I am a real Muhammed Ali era boxing fan and this game really lets you relive those tremendous match ups in exquisite detail & realism.

If you were a boxing fan at any time during your past and would like to revisit those days in a quality way equal to MLB The Show you can pick that game up on eBay for like $8 or even download it from the Playstation Store for $15.

Take Care & I will let you know when I put up those players,
        Don

Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

          Good evening Don,

Yeah, excuses, excuses, ha ha. But you know what, I understand. Fight Night Champion sounds pretty good. Sonny Liston was robbed ...

I grew up in Long Beach, (So. Cal.) in the days of Freddie Blassie, and The Shiek wrestlers, and so wrestling has always been a big interest to me. So yep, I understand.

Yes, I'd love to be able to re-create my own Baseball players, and for one big reason, so's I wouldn't have to ask. But all I know about computers is enough to foul them up.

Please Don, there's no hurry at all and don't go to any extra trouble, OK. When you're ready to upload your next 60s Version of the Update, just tag them on there. That would be great.

          your friend in AZ.

Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

            Hi Don and good morning,

How goes your Boxing Ring matches, and did Sonny Liston win his title back? ha ha.

Wow Don looks like we're gonna be up to our ears in new "Old School" baseball players soon with Biebig2010s next upload, along with all your Early 60's updates and the 1969 new franchise teams coming. Wholly Smokes!

Right now I am just getting into 2 different Seasons play. One with your '64 Phillies, (love em) and the other BigBig's '55 Bums (Dodgers). This is all great stuff and very enjoyable for me.

BigBig2010 may indeed include those 3 players I mentioned to you in his NL Teams update, Billy Cox, Ralph Branca and Preacher Roe to round out the Dodgers, so we'll see. To make sure they're in, if you could include them on one of your sets (if poss.) then I just can't imagine myself needing anything more!

Don, I am so glad to have met you through these Forums, thank you for really making The Show so much enjoyment for me.

take care and be good, oops, now I know I'm asking too much, (you be good).

Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

              Bob,

I may have those 3 players up in the vault this evening but if not certainly by tomorrow as I am just minutes away from finishing up my 4th & final inaugural 1969 team.

Glad you are enjoying these .......... I'm totally with you on that & this Retirement Scene really makes these a true treasure to have around to enjoy !

B-T-W --- Those '64 Phillies were my favorite team back then as I was playing on a Pony League team called the Phillies in'64 - But we actually Won our League ...... I was sickened to live through those last few weeks of that season and watch the Big League Phillies blew that seemingly insurmountable 10 game lead ....... Only wish I had been able to get my hands on one of those World Series tickets they printed in advance !!!

Liston is getting smacked down hard in this Fight Night stuff !

              Don

Wow Don, what can I possibly say! A Sincere heart-felt thank you just doesn't seem enough! All your fine efforts and those who helped in this Massive Project are most appreciated!

We sure do love our National Pastime don't we Don. Seeing the stars of our youth re-created and playing in MLB The Show just can't be beat.

I was looking at the Forum here and at the Show Nation for the past hour trying to get a good handle on how to Import players from the Player Vault and you have already taken care of that, thank you my friend.

The Tampa Bay Rays are quite a team. I just played against them earlier today with our '64 Phillies. What an unique and fine assortment of players they have in their starting lineup. Truly a great team with Phil Linz, Gus Bell, Johnny Blanchard, Ted Kluzeski. Duke Snider, Norm Larker, Wally Moon, and Jose Tarabul. Playing them was a lot of fun, I never knew who to expect up to bat next. Great, Great job Don!!!

Thank you Don again, take gentle care, your friend

Re: Early 60s Playoff Ready roster uploaded.

                      Hey Bob,

Glad you like the beginnings of those Tampa Bay D'Rays. When assembling those (what I call "Era Combo") Teams I too really liked those D'Rays as I tried to build them with some solid power hitters backed by some fairly colorful players like Phil Linz & Ken Hubbs.

I truly enjoy those Era Combo Teams as they are built by using some of the Players I really enjoyed following in the day that aren't starters and/or aren't even on some of the other real 1960-1964 Teams selected for the Set. The other criteria for being on one of those teams is the Player/Pitcher had to be on an MLB roster during 1960-1964.
I actually determine what Season best represents each of those individual players/pitchers and build them from that specific year.

So for those D'Rays the ones already completed are:

                      1961 Norm Larker
                      1960 Ted Kluszewski
                      1962 Ken Hubbs
                      1958 Johnny Goryl
                      1964 Phil Linz
                      1966 John Boccabella
                      1966 Jose Tartabull
                      1961 Duke Snider
                      1964 Billy Hoeft
                      1966 Tony Cloninger

As you can see a player's selected year doesn't have to fall between 1960-1964 but he had to have played during that period.

Yes, due to the research required and the many different seasons represented on those teams they do take more time to build than does any of those real season teams. But I find them to be extremely unique and enjoyable as one might be built for Power with Poor Pitching (as the D'Rays are designed to be) and another might be a good defensive team with little power but solid disciplined hitters while another may consist of a decent pitching Staff. Then I also have the pleasure of putting in some of those Players hardly anyone has ever heard of but I remember them well such as Aaron Pointer who was expected to be an up and coming Astros Superstar but really never made it on a regular basis in true life.

I've had those Teams assembled since MVP 2004 (yep before MVP 2005 even) when I first included them in my Early '60s Set for that game.

The Marlins are the only Era Combo Team completed as of yet and as of today I am finishing up those D'Backs.

Just to note a few yet to come to the Roster set will be:

Blue Jays: Gil Hodges, Adolfo Phillips, Manny Mota, Johnny Lewis, Bill Singer, Joe Nuxhall

D'Backs: Vic Wertz, Del Crandall, George Altman, Lenny Green, Wade Blasingame, Pedro Ramos, Dick Tracewski

Rockies: Walt Dropo, Don Zimmer, Duke Sims, Sherm Lollar, Roman Mejias, Jim Brewer, Denny LeMaster

Brewers: Joe Pepitone, Wes Parker, Ron Hunt, Lou Johnson, Tom Tresh, Jerry Lumpe, Jim Bouton, Sonny Siebert

I'm sure you can recognize a lot if not all of those players. I just can't wait to see them performing between the lines once again and challenging those established Squads !

Oh, Ted Williams & Stan the Man will find their way onto one of those Squads but as an older ball player and not in their prime of course.

                      Take Care,
                      Don

Yes, that is a lot of extra work, but a great idea to choose an individual player's better season year during that span for his new team.

That's a super list of player's to come for those expansion teams also. Gil Hodges, gee whiz he's a Dodger ya know!

Right after I seen your post for V1.1 being uploaded, I went and checked but didn't see it there yet. I narrorwed the search filter down to the "Historic Teams", shoot there's over 900 pages of downloads in the Roster Vault.

I may have just missed it, and will try a little later on. My Wireless connection sometimes goes out on me, and that did happen a couple of times while I was looking. Me excited to see all the "new faces."

Take care and thank you for taking the time to let me know how you came about the players and their better yrs. for the expan. teams.

                          Bob,

The easiest way to find recent things is to move the cursor over to the date column an then sort it ...... that way today's rosters will be on the 1st page ----- or if you know the Author you can sort by the Author column but then you have to scroll through in alphabetical order to get to that person's files.

I don't choose a Player's Best Season but rather choose the Season that most represents his typical year ........... otherwise those Era Combo Teams would be very strong teams.

                          Take Care,
                          Don

Thank you Don, I have located and downloaded the Early 60's V1.1 and started my play with the Tampa Bay Rays. This new set is looking fabulous and for anyone who loves the 60s era Baseball this will provide endless hours of memories and enjoyment.

Checking all the other teams and they're players, and there's just so many, great to see Minnie Minoso and Rusty Staub.

I remembered to do a Player Search and located those old Brooklyn Dodgers just fine. They are now on the Tampa team, but eventually they'll be back in Dodger Blue ... it's just got to be.

Thank you Don, very well done ...

                                Hey there 69Yanks,

Nice hearing from You Ole Podna !

I looked and saw many players you uploaded and grabbed a couple but never saw the Mick.

I have done a good bit of downloading Boxers from the '50s through today with an emphasis on the Ali era group. Let me know if you would like for me to email it to you so you can load it up. I think I have around 68 downloaded Boxers and most have been downloaded multiple times to keep the Best one with many being edited for correctness.

Between MLB The Show, Fight Night, & NBA2K14's Ultimate Base Roster Mod I just can't get NO Sleep !
