Baez is hitting .433? Even though it's only 8 games that seems pretty absurd for him. What are his contact ratings? Anyway, the trade wouldn't be bad considering there's plenty of prospects in the system to do without Baez and since you don't have to worry about them busting in the game. I'm not gonna tell you what to do with your chise though. I hope this year we finally get prospects that bust.

Updated list to include recent signings, non-roster invitees to spring training as well as a few prospects from Baseball America's Top 30 that weren't included in FanGraphs Top 30. Roster now stands at 97 players but that shouldn't be a problems as there are a number of guys who are out of options and likely won't make the team and also unlikely to accept an outright assignment.Last edited by OhioCub; 02-07-2015, 07:31 AM.Comment

Re: 2015 Chicago Cubs
Man I really love the way this team is shaping up and with Maddon as the skipper I like the Cubs chances in 2015.The last time I was this excited about a Cubs team going into a season was in 2008. We finished with the best record in baseball that year but got swept out of the playoffs really quick. Rizzo has done guaranteed we'll take the NL Central and Robert Zemeckis has done predicted we'll win the World Series and the people in Vegas that really control things has the Cubs at 14/1 favorites to win it all in 2015. I can't wait for the season to get started.
- ODDS TO WIN 2015 WORLD SERIES
- Team Odds
- Washington Nationals 5/1
- Los Angeles Dodgers 13/2
- Los Angeles Angels 10/1
- Boston Red Sox 14/1
- Chicago Cubs 14/1
- Seattle Mariners 14/1
- St. Louis Cardinals 14/1
- Baltimore Orioles 20/1
- Chicago White Sox 20/1
- Detroit Tigers 20/1
- San Francisco Giants 20/1

- New York Mets 25/1
- New York Yankees 25/1
- San Diego Padres 25/1

- Tampa Bay Rays 75/1
- Minnesota Twins 100/1
- Arizona Diamondbacks 120/1

If my math is correct that totals 83 players and includes all of the Top 30 prospects according to Fan Graphs (minus the one from the list that was traded). The final 7 spots can be filled with minor league filler once the rosters become clearer. The only position lacking depth is 1B but there's a number of players at other positions capable of filling in there.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Re: 2015 Chicago Cubs
I have read a couple rumors recently that Wellington Castillo should be traded before spring training starts. Apparently the "frontrunner" is the Phillies. Similar rumors for Travis Wood. Anyone heard anything else or got any good ideas? I think they should try to offer Castillo, Wood, and Baez to try and get Cole Hamels. If not then just boost the prospects.Comment

Re: 2015 Chicago Cubs
Oh, and I love the Cubs claim of lefty RP Drake Britton. He probably won't be a superstar for the team, but he and Joe Ortiz are high level AAA lefty RPs, and it adds good depth to that position. Plus he has been relatively successful in his MLB games with and ERA of 2.93 in 25 games and a 1.265 whip. Anyone else feel like Felix Doubront and Tsuyoshi Wada will start in the Majors as relievers (and spot starters), but will be traded by mid season?Comment

The Cubs lost a ton of leverage by signing Ross, but at this point you have to take what you can get for him and hope it doesn't come back to bite you (i.e. Castillo becomes Russell Martin and Montero puts up -WAR).
They can return something for them, but this close to ST, Castillo pushed to 3rd catcher and Wood having one of the worst years for a starter last year don't expect a huge return.
Baez's value took a dive last year and they need him to establish himself as an above average hitter at 2nd base this year in order to get some value for him, but if he does that there is no reason to move him. The fact that the Cubs went out and got La Stella means even the FO doubts Baez can adjust and needed a safeguard for 2nd base as La Stella has the offensive profile they like, minus the power. Baez will need to fight his way back to a starting role in ST and I could easily see him starting at AAA given his winter performance.Comment

Re: 2015 Chicago Cubs
Has anybody heard any news on what numbers the new Cubs players will be wearing? I know Jon Lester is #34, but I haven't seen anyone else. Here are the numbers I have assigned right now in my franchise:
Jason Hammel 39
Jason Motte 60
Miguel Montero 62
David Ross 3
Tommy La Stella 11
Chris Denorfia 19
Dexter Fowler 24
Also, what number will Kris Bryant wear? I usually give him #25 (wore it in college), I know he wore #17 and #76 in the minors though.Comment

This is my list of extra players beyond the 90 listed above. Obviously the Cubs will receive players for the trade(s) they make before opening day as well, so this is very rough. Other players have a good posibility of asking for release if they do not make the Major League roster. So these players should give us some cushion for when everything starts to change around.
Either way, let me hear what you think.Last edited by Figment; 02-07-2015, 07:28 PM.Comment

Re: 2015 Chicago Cubs
Here's my final list, at least until roster moves are made. As has been said, some of the guys will ask for a release, some are out of options and have to go through waivers and of course there's still the possibility of trades (I still included Wood and Castillo because regardless of talk, they're still Cubs as of right now). Obviously, all the SCEA guys even if they will end up being released will have to be included in the spring training edition of OSFM. Unfortunately we have 48 SCEA guys on our roster which doesn't leave alot of wiggle room. I did manage to get the top 27 prospects from Baseball America on this set without having to screw up depth charts too much.

Re: 2015 Chicago Cubs
With the OSFM recruit thread up I offered my services to work on the Cubs again this year.
This year might be a bit more difficult/tedious since the new equipment, but also will be fun to watch ST again this year and searching for the most recent images of prospects to match in game.
I may make a new thread titled OSFM so that I can post all relevant info in the OP like doc files and potential rosters as the Cubs actual roster forms over ST.
If anyone wants to help out let me know. The most time consuming part of the process is copying over faces from last year, although some of the best faces were made after OSFM was released so I'll have to get them all together.Comment

Glad your back for another round. I'll help out with stances, deliveries and equipment as much as I can. As a Cubs fan living in Central PA I won't get to see many games now that WGN America isn't broadcasting them but I check Cubs.com all the time to update my players so I will help out any way I can.Comment
