Quick question...I realize everyone is partial to their own projects they create but with that being said, how does this roster utility stack up with JT's Roster Builder Program? I have compared the ratings side by side and noticed some minor differences as well as HUGE differences. In JT's program the overall ratings seem to be higher. I am confused on which program creates a more realistic outcome. Any input from anyone would be helpful..


BTW...They are both EXCELLENT programs. I am not picking on anyone. Just wanted to get opinions....

You cannot go wrong with either. Remember JT Roster tools do mutiple Years Averages (1-3 or more), and this one as of now does a full career or 1 year. Checking both together is smart, the ones that are too high or low to one another can be check by your formulas. Or SCEA and OSFM, WTNY, numbers. The Most IMPORTANT INFO IS Pats Roster Tool Ratings are weighted by sabermetrics to the game.

To answer the other guys question, it's purely subjective. I'm not going to say one guys program is better than anothers. Like Thomas said, if you want a good indicator, just use both and run the numbers side by side.

Player ratings are extremely personal, and everyone has their opinions. I like to think my formulas provide realistic outcomes, but they are not without their flaws. As discussed in previous comments, the Arm Strength/Accuracy, Blocking, Reaction, are almost impossible to tie to any statistic so you just have to do your best or just guess it really.

As long as people enjoy the program, and it helps them build their game the way they want, then the program has done it's job as far as I'm concerned.

I want to continue working on it, and helping it grow, so if anyone has any suggestions on improvements, I'm all ears. I plan to update a new version every year, as well as updates to the current years program as needed.

Having finished using this program to set up my AllTime roster, and posted it to the MLB14 Roster Vault, and started a Season which I transferred over to MLB15, I must say I have NEVER had more fun playing this game than with these rosters. How did you do your ratings with this tool for a All Time Roster? Did you just take the best years for each player and do the ratings for that year?

I still had my notes from when I did it with my Kalkulator, so I got the years from that, and with a few tweaks here and there, and a couple of changes on certain rosters (Reggie Jackson on the Yankees instead of Dave Winfield is the one I remember for sure), I got the final product. Yeah, it was the best years, usually by ERA for the Pitchers and Runs Created per game (with Runs Created as a qualifier) for the Position Players...

Good question! PITCH/fx data is displayed as career totals. The speed given is his average speed over his career.

I'm not sure...but I thought you could choose year specific pitches..type/speed?

I love this tool and use it a lot. Probably the one thing I would love to have is a way to either copy or export the ratings numbers to another sheet or something. A lot of the times I look up the ratings for a specific player for more than one year he played. Then I put those numbers into a spreadsheet I created and work out some averages. Sometimes guys have a career year or a really crappy year or play in the majors so little that the ratings get screwy. So I like to have multiple years worth of ratings and then either use an average or judgement looking at all the data. I think this makes for a better FRANCHISE experience when putting in historical data.

Yeah, and Bahnzo's program actually gave Control and Movement ratings for the Pitch Fx, maybe a tweak you could figure out in the future. That said, still a bad *** program with awesome results. I'm already 4 games into a season using my AllTime rosters after updating them with this program, and I'm having more fun with it them I ever have before...

Good idea, I'll see about adding this to a future version of the tool. A lot of people have requested the ability to do 3 year averages.

I seem to be having issues. The batting and fielding ratings seem to be stuck on 1963. I enabled macros and the other content, but when I go to select recent years like 2013 or 2014 and then hit sort name, it says the sort name is not found. I'm left with the 1963 batter names and 1963 stats, but the batting year will say 2014.

Am I doing something wrong? The pitching stats and ratings work fine and are set to 2014.
