CPU taking varying leads...why have I not seen this?

    I have all patches installed.

I have not seen the cpu take an extra step even once, though many on here are reporting that they've seen this.

To experiment, I tried everything I could to try and get Billy Hamilton to take an extra step at first. I walked him to open the game, put in various pitchers (I thought there may be a tendency to take an extra step against a right-hander, but nope), and I even dropped my catcher's arm strength and accuracy ratings way down to 30, and this made no difference.

I exited my franchise and did this again in an exhibition game, and still no extra steps.

So, what gives? It's not that big a deal to me, but if others are seeing it, then there must be a reason it's not happening in my game.

    Any thoughts?

      JTommy67,

I imagine what I've experienced in watching over 100+ CPU vs CPU games is related to what you have stated above.

In that, I have not seen a single (not ONE) Pickoff Attempt made by either team in any of those 100+ games and it likely is, as you state, because a CPU controlled team never takes a lead that would entice a pickoff attempt.

I have reported this in the Bug Report tools 3 times over at shownation.com but they delete it without even an explanation of having at least reviewed it. I have given up on that tool as it appears they select what they want to remain in that tool and delete everything they wish not to see.

Well the problem is that they say they addressed it in the patch, and others have reported that it was fixed. Perhaps they are not paying attention and don't notice that the guys aren't taking extra steps, and are instead just repeating SCEA's claim that the patch addressed the issue, however I don't want to disbelieve anybody's report.

From my end, however, this is absolutely not fixed. I've observed no change whatsoever.

          JTommy67,

Just to give you a report on how your Roster Builder Utility is performing for my 1st full Season Early '60s Roster.

I'm at the All-Star Break and the results are nothing short of amazing. The leaders in every category are basically like I would have expected them to be in real life. Individual games vary greatly from very low scoring games to total blow outs. A handful of players/pitchers are having banner seasons as well as a handful of them having subpar seasons but the vast majority of them are dead on target with how their real life seasons panned out.

I basically play 1 game per calendar day with various teams and try to balance off the number of games each team plays at home and on the road. I will do this until September 1st when I then focus on only the games of most interest to me without any concern for balancing the number of games for each team.

Your work has proven to be everything I felt it would be which is "Fabulous". I will continue to use your RBU for all future Rosters/Teams I create. I cannot praise your work enough and feel you have made this MLB The Show Old Time Baseball Venture a true joy!

          Don

            Thanks, Don.

I appreciate the feedback. I'm currently working on updating things based on this year's version of the game. Some of the rating scales appear to have changed a bit, so all the players will be re-rated and new data files constructed.

Whenever they make significant adjustments to the gameplay or sim engine, this affects what the ratings will do, which is why I'm religious about following their distributions and scaling historical players accordingly.

I doubt that ratings will be altered significantly, but I want to stay on top of things. Once I've completed the update, I'm going to work on automating some of the processes I'm currently doing manually. Down the road, I'll be freed up to focus on what to do about pitch ratings, historical or otherwise. I like your process for developing pitch ratings statistically. In my calculator, I used a similar method as a proxy so velocity, control, and break ratings could be estimated (since they are factors in overall calculations).

Re: CPU taking varying leads...why have I not seen this?

There are no more .....regular lead THEN extra step leads.
The base runners will take various length leads from the get go.....(bcruise posted the incremental length differences in a gif somewhere)
There are different lead lengths....but I think they are just random.

..and on M.O.M. and CPU vs. CPU games....there are no pickoff attempts. I asked WoodWeaver about this...he looked into it but there is a problem when they turn them on.
I'm guessing it has to do with either no more extra step(that was what used to trigger the pick off attempt)...or the new base running logic.

He's looking into it for next year(I think that's it for this year )

Re: CPU taking varying leads...why have I not seen this?

Thanks Knight165 for that insight into Pickoff Attempts. It truly is much appreciated since I created Bug Reports 3 different times on the subject and they deleted them each time without even a polite reply that they had even looked at them and decided to delete them.

Hope you are finding time to enjoy MLB 15. I also hope you eventually get back to building some of those fabulous Old Time Team Sets you created which I thought were the Best ! They would be great on MLB 15 now that we can carry them forward.

                Take Care,
                Don
