Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
Cool idea. Are you finding that SCEA's ratings are significantly different from what the calculator says they should be? I guess you made the calculator based on how SCEA rates players, so it should be comparable, no?Comment

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
It's based on a similar scale to SCEA. Thing is stock rosters often seem to have numbers pulled out of thin air and/or splits reversed for players. A guy might be an excellent hitter vs L but bad vs R, yet stock rosters will have it reversed.
As for the release, this is by far the best version of the calculator yet. It'll absolutely be shared but after joining on with the Hybrid team, it wouldn't be right to release it prior to the roster getting out there. After all, someone could just attempt to beat us to the punch and claim to be the Hybrid roster. It's sad people obsessed with recognition ruin things for everyone, but I will still release this to the public just as I always have.Comment

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
There really isn't any reason you couldn't release it. The hybrid includes much more than flat ratings right out of your calculator. It stinks that such an awesome tool is being held back because of a roster that a) has no release date and b) not everyone cares about.
Additionally, most low minor leaguers don't have full year stats so any worth while roster needs to have those guys and their potentials tweaked anyway.
There are ways you could release a version that limits a recreation of the Hybrids. A possibility is one that has the MLB stats removed so people can work on their prospects and not MLB players.
It's just frustrating that the community has to suffer because people are afraid of some schmo copying their work poorly.Comment

I'm sorry the decision I made has negatively effected you, and I really appreciate that you enjoy the calculator. I sincerely mean that.
To help you understand my perspective on this, you need to understand why I created this calculator in the first place. The whole thing started initially out of a desire to make roster editing easier and quicker for me. Over the last couple of years, life has gotten more and more hectic, and thus I have nowhere near the time to roster edit that I once did. And in fact, it has been years since I have been able to completely edit the roster until last year when BDaniels offered to help me input everyone.
So today, the entire reason I do this calculator is so that other people will take the time to enter the ratings in, time that I don't have anymore, and then I can enjoy the game with what I believe to be the most realistic ratings for the Show currently available. A couple members of the Hybrid team came to me, and I'd be shooting myself in the foot by not respecting their wishes.
Hybrid is taking the flat numbers for the weighted ratings (which have been revamped this year) directly from my calculator. The ratings are completely based on it. Having these amazing guys to help out is saving me countless hours and is going to provide me with hours upon hours of actually playing the Show, instead of roster editing.
This is not a punishment. I'm not trying to force anyone to use a roster they don't want to, even though I truly believe it will be the best roster for the Show there is, and the team is made up of some of the best roster editors on all of OS. But it's important to be understanding of the experiences of some of the members of Hybrid that went through the frustration in the past of people stealing their work and then trying to claim they were the real Hybrid. It's bush league stuff and sad that there's some immature people out there willing to steal work to get some false praise.
I hope you can understand. Just as I'm a part of the best roster team I've ever worked with, this will be the best version of the calculator I have ever released. It'll be worth the wait.Comment

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
Awesome news TheGame. I'm waiting patiently for this roster.
I think I wan't to mess with minor league calculator more than the MLB players. I wish we could get Jimbo over here. His calculator has an tab just for inputting minor league stats and showing ratings.
Research on OS I think Scott had a formula as well to get minor league stats to MLB ratingsComment

Jimbo is awesome. He does great work, and his thread should really be over here in current gen. The one issue is for some reason his links often go down. You might be able to download his calculator for a week, but the next week it's down. Then it's a matter of waiting for him to re-upload it.
I'm glad you mentioned the place to input ratings. I'm thinking of doing that for this release. Give you the option of putting in your own numbers. It'd help out Hybrid is well for the few players with low numbers of ABs that a calculator has an impossible task of rating. I wouldn't think it would take me long to create a separate sheet with the ability to input your own. I'll see what I can whip up to be ready for when I release the calculator to everyone.Comment

Question: what does TheGame owe you? Your comment splurges of self-entitlement. Punishment? Really? So let me get this straight...
A man creates a product. He's proud of his product and decides to put it to use. To keep from others putting it to use before him, he decides to keep it private until he's done, thus, not wasting him and the editor's time. And that somehow, someway is punishment?
My God people these days. And the fact you said no one is interested in the Hybrid roster just shows you have no clue what you're talking about. If you're not interested in the roster, then why do you want the ratings calculator that the roster is built off so bad?
