How do you determine salary to give player?

I'm adding some actual salaries in for players and was curious as to which method may be better. Both types work better for certain contracts but I'm not sure which is more realistic overall.

    1) Salary for the given year and add the contract years.

    2) Salary for the entire contract and deduct to the remaining years.

While option 1 results in the right contract for the current season (usually) the overall cost doesn't match up since some contracts have variable yearly amounts.

Option 2 ensures that the total salary amount is right but may be incorrect on the given year. I lean towards this because no matter what this is how the FA process works?

Is there are third method or source that maybe has the remaining years and remaining total value?

When a player is promoted to the 25 man roster from the minor leagues, his salary is pro-rated to $507,500 as the adjusted cost of living increases per the CBA for the year 2016.

Therefor for the game, you should make sure that each player should have a minimum salary of $510,000 for those players who are on the 40 man roster.

I personally go with option two. I currently have a roster that you can access that has everyone's true salary.

I really don't understand why people are using the default contracts. I doubt that the contract system is ever going to be perfect due to all of the complexities of the contracts these days..things would get really wild real fast if we had all these opt out clauses and cash transactions to cover salaries...

I would like to see it expanded on in future games. That being said, I think the most immersive way to play franchise is to put accurate contracts for every player. I have yet to f ind out if this truly breaks the game or not, but I've made a bunch of changes to my roster so ill just see how it goes.

I don't see it breaking down any more than I see any other part of the game bugging out. Not really worried about free agent signings multiple years down the road but i'll check it out and see if it holds.

I actually went with option 3. Used to actual years and remaining contract amount from cots contracts. Added actual contracts for about 500-600 guys at least (everybody making over 2mil per, plus a few complete teams and some others)
