Kenta Maeda, Two Sliders, Six Pitches...

Looking at some videos of his pitches, it looks like he has two different sliders (or I guess, slider and a slurve? Cutter and a slow slider?)

That gives him six pitches in a five-pitch system...4SFB, 2SFB (or Sinker), 12-6, Slider 1 (Cutter? Slider?), Slider 2 (Slurve?), CCH.

So...which five would you give him?

It's hard to decide because, realistically, he uses all six of them relatively frequently, so no "2% pitch" to drop.

Maybe I'd give him the RFB and either throw it max effort or tap (using Classic) to vary movement? Then I can just decide how to represent his two sliders?

*adds two-button combo system for pitch selection to wishlist*

    Thoughts welcome.

If you go by brooks he has only thrown 5 pitches this season and you could go by frequency.

This is the one that makes me think he has six pitches. The two sliders that he can intentionally choose between.

Since MLB:TS doesn't give a 5 MPH differential between off-speed pitches, I can't set the Slider to 79 and then throw it 84. Plus those breaks are very much different, different enough to be classes as different pitches or "types" of sliders like all the "types" of curves in the game.

I'm wondering what Brooks/Pitch FX picks that 79 MPH pitch as? Slider? Curve?

Looks like slider - so I probably will just go with that then.

At 81, he'll throw it 79-83, so that might have to do, even though it will be random and not deliberate.

Some good information besides that, too. That will help me look at movement and his K/9 rating since those are the "whiff ratings" in The Show's engine.

If I can't deal with it - I might just go the other route, give him a 2SFB with lowish base movement and use the max effort to try to get more sometimes.

Sweet - thanks for the offer. I'd be glad to take a look when you get there and have the time. I did like his pitch edits - I used his in MLB14.

Well I finally made it to the Dodgers on my pitch edit chart and here is what Kenta Maeda pitches are on my chart. I am thinking Slurve also for pitch #1. He does throw both.

                  Nice. Thanks for sharing

Yeah, Slider/Slurve pitch #1 for sure. I think I have his 2SFB as #3 but it seems to be basically the same frequency as his curve so either/or type situation. Comparing numbers, I think I'm a bit higher on control ratings - I seem to be closer to yours in movement (most different in fastballs - I undersold the movement there it seems).

The more I try to represent Maeda, the more I see how limited the engine is. For example, Maeda gets his swing-and-miss from is slider/slurve. Z-Contact only 71%. That's FAR lower than the rest of his pitches as well as the average Z-Contact league-wide of 86%.

However, if I raise K/9, he'll get more whiffs on all his pitches (very wrong), but if I use movement to represent whiff %, it will move too much visually in-game (by quite a bit).

                  Sigh.

Wow, that's close to what I have for the /9 ratings

Wasn't too sure about BB/9, given it's the command rating, not so much walk rating. I had 70 - so that one was kinda off.

                      Thanks for these, too.

Since I had close - I think I'll just have to live with less K's than he'd get irl (at least so far, maybe that's due to regress) since he can pitch well with those numbers or similar, just with like 7 IP, 3 K or something.
