Re: Speed Ratings - MLB The Show 17

Just a point about the Statcast data being cited...in the MLB.com articles by Mike Petriello, a lot of the numbers cited don't seem to be consistent from article to article due to sample size issues so I wouldn't slavishly adhere to the data in said articles. For example, here's an article that contains OF throw speeds that directly contradict values published earlier in this thread.

Until we can search Statcast ourselves for baserunning and defensive plays and set our own search parameters, we are going to be stuck with inconsistent numbers and piecemeal data like this.

Could you take a look at Almora Jr.'s Defensive ratings? His scouting With a 60 arm and a fielding of 65 on 20-80 scale. I know he's still inexperienced but his defense was definitely important to the Cubs playoff run.

Edit sorry don't worry about the speed stats I misread where his where.

We aren't assigning ratings by a single article or data list but recopiling as much data as possible to then make an educated guess, im checking statcast info, scouting grades 80-20 scale, scouting reports, baseball cube and seeing other people's opinion etc they still aren't going to be perfect but more accurate or closer to how they should be.

I didn't imply that you were. I was just objecting to the notion that Statcast stuff is all you should be considering. Until that data matures a bit more, it's no more than a complementary tool.

I think CarGo on the Rockies should be looked at. His speed has dropped off a bit with age and injuries but a 64 rating is a bit low.

Thanks, this has always bugged me. Any chance you could see where Dansby Swanson and Ender Inciarte fall on your scale? Ender is pretty close, but I believe Dansby is faster than a 74.

Dansby has a scouting grade of 60 on speed which is 76-80 on my scale and SCEA gave him 71.

Ok, thanks must have had an adjusted speed rating when I played a game with him. Where do you get your scouting grades?

I try to find times, old scouting reports and i consider their age and decrease accordingly, baseball cube grades and obviously my eye too and i consider other intangibles. For example guys that were 90's in their 20's are usually low 80's when they have between 30-33 then after that they regress quickly to like low 70's or even more if they have leg injuries like Beltran or ARod who were high 80's in their prime but leg injuries made them below avg runners in their 30's but there are exceptions like Ichiro that at 42 last year was still ranked as one of the top runners home to first with below 4 seconds times which its still elite.

I took a good long look at the roster and there were a few that jumped out at me:
                          TOR Ryan Goins 72
                          MIN Jorge Polanco 56
                          SEA Guillermo Heredia 64
                          TEX Jurickson Profar 64
                          HOU Teoscar Hernandez 76

                          Thanks
Heredia and Hernandez were added to the list

I would say he is at least a plus runner at a minimum of an 80. Not much of a base stealer, but he is a legit athlete getting around the bases quickly with those easy, long strides.

SCEA gave him 56 and by my scale his scouting grade of 55 would put him between 70-75, i gave him a little boost and added him to the list with 77 which is similar to Correa's, neither is an elite base stealer but they move pretty well, have similar bodies, scouting grades and looks similar while running.

How fast should Rajai Davis be these days do you guys think? Game still has him at like 98 or something despite him being 36. I lowered him down to 89, but I wonder if that's still too fast or maybe he just still is really fast?
