I picked up this year's game on sale and after several days of absolutely no idea on who to start a franchise with (it was that hard to pick due to so many teams seeming exciting options), I went ahead with the Giants. Love that they have veteran players as well as some prospects.

Amazing work. Just the variety you've created in terms of equipment across players is outstanding and noticeable.
Thank you very much. I'm very grateful for all the love that has been thrown my way and I'm glad I could add another layer to an already great game.

As for this comment specifically, I'm really glad you started a franchise and happy to hear that you think the league has many exciting options...I've changed teams every year I've done a franchise so far too. It's great to hear you enjoy the equipment of all things. Equipment is something I have actually poured a lot of time into trying to create variety and rarity with some players to add some personality.

    ---

Lastly, I really hope I don't sound like a broken record player but I truly do not have many more adjectives to describe how happy I am that y'all enjoy the roster. It continues to motivate me to make more players and make the roster as good as it can possibly be.

Bacon, quick question. What’s up with low rated and insanely high salary RP Eric Crespo on the giants?

I would guess that's a player who I edited at one point and forgot about.

Is it worth fixing those? Or do they "readjust" once they contract comes up or they get released and re-signed

It isn't gamebreaking but yes, I think it's worth fixing.

I would go through and do this then, but I presume you are already on it.

I have it fixed on my file now but I won't be uploading a new set just because of one player.

Oh ok i thought this was a wider spread issue that required mass editing. Good then.

Hey y'all, I have posted a handful of gameplay videos of the roster in action on Youtube. I have them in a nice little folder here on OS and will be adding a lot to it soon. So far it contains: an Opening Day Franchise game from 2018 (Rays), Franchise game from 2019 (Marlins), some Road to the Show relief appearances (White Sox) and a random play now between Baltimore and Toronto.

                      Check it out!

I Have really enjoyed your roster. I have also looked at your spreadsheet, as someone who likes to dabble in this, how do you create the roster? How do you get from the spreadsheet to and up-loadable roster? I've always wanted to doe this with past seasons but have never known how to do it. Thanks again for a cool roster.

Thanks for the kind words Neil. Glad you like it.

A lot to unpack here because these are bulky questions so I'll do my best.

                              How to create a roster:

I learned pretty much just by playing around with the game. Messing around with what all the roster functions do, what every editor does and how to get the game to do what I want it to. This means I'm now completely comfortable with importing/exporting players, editing faces/equipment/attributes and using franchise mode as a tool.

To create a roster, you'll need to start with a base set. I just started with the default roster and began importing created players in. These created players were just blank players who had zeros for all their attributes and no defining features - I called them New Fielder and New Pitcher. This became my base and it's the first thing I do when I get the game every year now.

Next up, I just began to create players. Be creative, mess around and finish with something you like. Use random name generators or just look through the audio files for names. Choose Nike and just make their cleats look like something you've seen in a real MLB game...etc. As I was creating players, I was also creating my own companion spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is a touch more advanced than the ones I've shared on Google Drive. The excel document contains all the information I know about the roster including well over a million cells.

And then you really just need to keep going. My roster has been a labor of love and something I've consistently been working on since October 2016. You can't create any good roster overnight so you just gotta keep at it.

                              tl;dr:

I'm a self taught roster maker and any roster like this takes time. Do your best to play around with the game and familiarize yourself with the game.
