Look man, I'm not sure what/if anything you're trying to prove here. We get that you disagree with some of our ratings and that's fine, but if you hate our set so much, why bother commenting over and over? Just move along and let us do our thing

See my last post here? Nothing to do with your wonderful ratings.

Long ago I posted in Hybrid about Jose Fernandez, and more recently about Francisco Lindor, even more recently about Betts and Chapman. I get that you folks don't agree with me, and I get that other folks here like your wonderful ratings, so I'll refrain from giving anymore suggestions.

However, if someone posts about me in words or pictures, I may very well reply.

We always listen to feedback, because there are always more things we can do to improve the process. We do encourage constructive criticism, but there's always something we can learn.

That said, given we're the only raters who rate all the way down to the minors. Because we need to support larger range of players, we did have to tweak the scale. That's both a pro and a con. We have had good feedback about how the extra separation plays, but it does lead to some inflated ratings near the top.

For Chapman's power, the straight Iso seems fair enough, and consistent with how we're rating things. But the platoon splits are a bit too extreme. A righty shouldn't have a neutral split, and a reverse split from 17 got exaggerated too much.

That said, because of how power is tied to overall, we might look at a rescaling there. We can't do that midseason, because we don't have tools to modify thousands of players at once. But the offseason is a good time to consider tweaks might help.

For Martinez, he's a poor OF/DH. The arm metrics seem a few runs below average, and the Fan/Tango ratings seem average, maybe a bit higher. So I think a low 70s arm is fair.

Assist numbers are hard to judge without the added context, but bbref does count 9 of them as AOther, which aren't traditional baserunner kills. I'd like to see what some of those plays were, but those were in 2015, so it's tough to find video, and there's not enough evidence to give him a better arm.

Thanks for the feedback. There are a lot of moving parts, and we need as many eyes as possible, to make sure we make the most wonderful offering we can, year after year.

If your looking for suggestions, Betts should have more than 70 speed, Bradley should have more speed, much more than anything in the 50's.

Yes, Martinez had 15 assists in 2015--and 3 double plays playing in RF. And, while he isn't Betts in the OF, he isn't 50 something for fielding either--my opinion

Now, 15 assists and 3 double plays suggests to me he has a good arm, unless you can find somewhere he has an illness weakening that arm, or a weakening due to age. I don't think age should be a factor, so that leaves illness or injury. If it were an injury, is it permanent?

Correction: The 15 assists and 3 double plays for Martinez was him playing in RF.

We use statcast sprint scores for speed. None of the Red Sox outfielders have elite speed according to that. What metrics do you propose we consider in their case?

As for JD Martinez, assists are rolled into the fielding metrics, in terms of how many runners they hold or throw out. 2015 was the only year he had a positive metric, and overall, he's a few runs below average for his career. We give more weight to recent years, and his 15 assist year was a while ago.

I'd love to get actual throwing arm metrics, like they introduced for catchers, but for now, none of the metrics we're using say he should be above average arm.

So you think Betts should have 70 speed and that's for a player who stole what, 30 something bases. Martinez doesn't have a lot of range, but when getting to the ball, he usually makes the play. Fielding in my book is when getting to the ball, are you making the play? Reaction in my book is how quickly one reacts to the ball, and RANGE. Again, just my opinion.

Now, I don't take this roster seriously. Why do I say that? Am I trying to be mean? No. Aside from many ratings issues, your roster does not use Brooksbaseball for pitch types and speeds. I consider that an extremely important aspect of any roster. I consider it that way.

Haha! Thanks! Haven’t been around in a bit but after hearing about the comments I missed, I had to come give them a read. Then, I stumbled across the “legend” comment and found it too funny to not comment.

Sorry I’m not as active anymore. Real life has sadly gotten in the way of the time I used to have.
