Hello, all...
I've just uploaded the latest version of RBU. I'm calling this 19.2 since I made only one small minor change to accomodate the new 2019 file in the data folder. Most ratings should be similar to what's in version 19.2, but since it takes little effort to download, I'd recommend updating anyway. I sometimes lose track of minor changes and improvements I've made.
Please note: The RBU is a tool which grabs precalculated ratings for any year (or years, if weighted) from 1876 to 2019. It is NOT a ratings calculator (read on down if you're interested in that)...just an excel file with macros that spits out ratings of your choosing. Since it uses VBA, it requires a DESKTOP version of Excel (online version will not work) with macros enabled.
Note the ratings contained within were created using last year's game calibrations...so I've yet to have an opportunity to look at this year's game to see what minor adjustments need to be made. (Why I'm calling it 19.2)
Since I'm here I'll throw some other links in, as well.
Career Ratings (Weighted averages for all MLB players in history in one file...2019 seasons NOT included in these calculations):
Seasonal Ratings (Seasonal Ratings for every player, every year, all in one file...again, 2019 not included):
Custom Player Calculator (This uses essentially the same formulas to create custom players, allowing you to input vitals and statistics and get ratings. Note: This is NOT designed for minor league players; there are no adjustments to calculations based on level...the tool assumes all input statistics are MLB stats. This is best used if you're creating fantasy/fictional players.)
I'm fairly stoked about the ability to transfer rosters, as well as editable service time. Hopefully, there will be a way to transfer our work to the PS5 in the fall. If I could get some confirmation, I'm going back to a project I began a few years ago but gave up on...which was starting in 1905 and creating old-time rosters one year at a time. I stopped because it was too much hassle to bring them forward into the new version each year.
Since the Corona scare is going to keep me working at home for the foreseeable future, I hope to dive into the game and start crunching the ratings and statistics to ensure my calculators are accurate. This is ALWAYS a tedious, mind-numbing, super-slow process that begins with me having to create a ratings spreadsheet by copying ratings into a file.
If you have Microsoft excel, and you don't mind helping out, I can send you the input file and you can do a team or two. Every little bit helps.
In any case, thanks to those of you who've supported my work over the years. Looks like some of the things we've wanted out of the roster side have been included, so I think the roster-building community is going to get a shot of adrenaline...and thanks to all of you guys who have spent so much time making these rosters. It's a massive amount of time to put in and you deserve high regard for doing it.
Cheers,
JT
