Really liking the Create a player tool. Looks like the Average and batting attempts are not working vs RH and Power vs RH. You have any idea why that is?

Those fields are green, which means you have to fill them in yourself. It then subtracts to get vs LHP stats.
If I'm reading you correctly.Comment

I love this tool and look forward to your release each year. I had a quick question, which I apologize if you answered somewhere else, but why is career potential different for players than single season potential?
For example, Bob Boone in 1986 has 99 potential, but career potential is something like 84. Thank youComment

A player's career potential is simply the highest overall rating he ever achieved in a single season. It's not really used for much, and I only stuck it in as a novelty.
Season potentials are designed to mimic the developer's use of potential ratings, which slows regression by increasing potential as a player ages and maintains MLB service time. This begins around age 30, so as a player gets older you see rising potential until it hits 99 somewhere in the mid to late thirties.
In my calculator, this is done by taking the players max overall from the years remaining in his career and applying an age-modification which begins at 30. This is discarded in his last year though.
So players under 30 get max overall from the years remaining. Players over 30 get max overall + age boost.
Hope this helps, and thanks for the feedback. Another release is coming within a few days, since I just completed updating my entire statistical database with all the new information Retrosheet has recently made available.Last edited by JTommy67; 05-03-2020, 04:43 PM.Comment

Re: RBU version 20.1 and Custom Player Calculator Available for Download
Thank you for your reply. That makes sense about potential. That will come in handy for me because I do play multiple seasons and update players each year. Started in 1979, and have played through 1983.
What new information has come out from retro sheet? How will this impact the ratings? Thanks again and this tool is great.Comment

Won't make a difference for modern years...but definitely improves our knowledge of hitter tendencies with the new data.
However, as more data is obtained they frequently recalculate zone ratings and other fielding marks for modern players, also, and some times the changes are significant.
So while I've been at home for the past month I've been updating my statistical database. Last time I did it was 2014 when I first began working on this utility, and at the time I had to hand-correct thousands of errors and inconsistencies in the data (player names mispelled/changed in the registers, for example, which means my calculator wouldn't recognize the correct players). Now most of those errors are corrected on BR, which means I've had to account for this on my end...long story short is it takes a lot of patience and time. But I got there in the end.Comment

Re: RBU version 20.1 and Custom Player Calculator Available for Download
I am thinking about creating a historical college season and wanted to use your custom calculator. I know that your calculator works for different mlb seasons to create great accurate ratings.
When I am trying to decide which historical season to use, should I be looking for the median bavg and ab/hr's that match up closely between the college season and the mlb season, or what should I look at to try and create an accurate rating for the college season?
I hope my question makes sense.
Thank you and great caculator.Comment

Wish I would have utilized this tool years ago. Probably would have finished more of the projects I worked on.
.. If we get a PC release, this info should port pretty easily as well.
Can't thank you enough for your work and dedication to this. You want free speech?
