    Underrated Players and Incorrect Potentials

    Unlike a lot folks, I actually don’t mind the default Sony rosters this year. They’re are some glaring issues but for the most part, I think they get the job done. I appreciate all the work ridin and crew put and have used some of their caps, Houston’s caps and cujomatty’s caps in my personal roster based off sony’s Default (happy to upload if anyone wants it).

    To the point, sony’s roster has two main issues besides missing players: player potential and some ratings. Editing my roster, I noticed there were top 10 positional prospects (with face scans and all) that have D potential. See Tyler Nevin on the Rockies as an example.

    I’m a Jays fan, so I’m familiar with players like Gaviglio who is a low 60 and d potential but i’m looking for help with the rest of the league. If anyone wants to put down players they think have too high/low potential and too low of an OVR (i.e. bobby wall being an MLB player rated 49 OVR not Gleyber being too low because he moved to SS) that would be great.

    For example:

    Jays
    Sam gaviglio should be low C and improved k/9 rating
    Wilmer font should have improved k/9 rating
    Zach logue should be D potential
    Thomas hatch should be high C
    Christian Williams should be D
    Nash Knight should be D
    Cary Chow should be removed (don’t think he is real but is on AAA)
    Griffin Conine should be High C

    Anyway, just wanted to gauge interest from people to collaborate on this. Also, I’m not sure if it’s easier for ppl to look at the roster and then provide feedback but I’m open to suggestions.

      Yeah potentials have always been WAY too optimistic for my liking. Most players should be D. Anyone who makes an impact in the bigs gets C, All-Stars and higher end players get Bs and then really good, star types all get As.

        An idea I had been toying with was re-doing potentials for all prospects using Fangraphs FV (Future Value) as it corresponds to fWAR and comparing those fWAR totals to the player ratings of guys in the game who put up around that much fWAR

          Max Fried and Cristian Pache I think both are probably too low OVR-wise. Fried is only a 76 despite putting up like a 3.30 xFIP last season (that's basically ace level, #2 starter at worst). I'm thinking he should at least be in the low 80s. Pache is regarded as one of, if not the, best defensive players in MiLB yet is only a bit above average in his Fielding attributes and his overall is like a 68. I think he should probably be in the low 70s OVR and while I don't wanna overrate his defense too much, I think those attributes in particular should probably be a good bit higher than they are currently

            I use Baseball America's Prospect Handbook and their BA Grade Scale:

            80 = 99
            75 = 94
            65 = 89
            60 = 84
            55 = 79
            50 = 74
            45 = 69
            40 = 64

            That covers the top 900 minor league prospects.

            anyone else listed in the book but who doesn't get a BA Grade gets the 64 potential.
            anyone NOT listed in the book gets a 59 potential.

              Fernando Tatis Jr.'s Stealing rating should be higher than 22.

                -I found it offensive that Bichette is a 74 overall and Joey Votto is a 81.
                -I don't think Fried and Soroka should be 8 points apart overall (I believe it's 74 and 82, or something similar)
                -I moved Aaron Bracho (Indians) potential from a D to a B (86)
                -Andy Yerzy C potential / Daulton Varsho D potential is problematic
                -Pache fielding rating needs a 20 point boost honestly
                -I pulled Albies power vs. lefties down a smidge, and raised his power vs rhp
                -Austin Meadows at a 79 surprised me
                Plenty more but that's what comes to mind off the top of my head

                (note: this is based on BrianM207 rosters - not sure how these ratings differ from Ridin's original set, on which his set is based)

                  Yeah Fried needs to be like an 81 or so
