So, let's talk about bullpen logic.
I've tried the method I explained and tweaked it a bit because I found the AI really likes LRPs and wasn't using it's best relievers in obvious situations.
So, I am now using this setup and liking it better. Here's how to do it.
Think of your bullpen in terms of roles (role in brackets), like this:
LRP (low leverage: 2nd worst RP)
LRP (empty)
LRP (empty)
If you have starters/guys with 30+ stamina, make sure they're in an MRP slot, not an LRP slot, so they can be used properly.
MRP (high leverage)
MRP (high leverage)
MRP (high leverage)
MRP (high leverage)
SU (primary setup man/high leverage: best OVR RP)
SU (low leverage: worst OVR RP)
CL (closer)
I had started taking a closer look at the AI recently, both in sims and played games, and noticed they were putting LRPs in high leverage situations, which should never happen. After I made the above changes. I played against STL the other night in a close, low scoring game. The AI correctly inserted rested MRPs and the SU guy. Game was tied in the 9th and they even brought in their closer in a non-save situation.
Adam Wainwright has been bad this year so I moved him to the bullpen for STL. The beauty of the MRP spot is that you can put starters in there and the game will use them correctly (if it's late, an inning. if long relief is needed, 2 innings or so). It also looks like the AI is smarter about letting bullpen arms rest this way, and we can use the neglected SU2 spot to our advantage here since by default, it's rarely used.
