    OOTB Roster violability

Can anyone speak to the viable of using out of the box rosters this years?

Wondering if ratings are accurate for players and prospects? ARE positions balanced? Are prospects properly rated?

    Thanks in advance.

I only briefly looked at a couple teams but one of them were the Twins and they had Buxton at 99 power for lefties and righties. So I'm going to say the ratings are way off..

they're more balanced this year than they have been in the last 4 years combined.
the biggest things I've seen unbalanced, Texas has 8 thirdbasemen and the Padres have 8 shortstops and only 4 leftfielders.
there are also plenty teams with 8 catchers when I prefer there be 7 per team, but the 8 catcher thing is a minor gripe from me

Buxton has the 2nd highest ISO in baseball over the last 3 years (behind only Mike Trout). He was 6th vs Lefties and 4th vs Righties so I would say a 99 is probably warranted

Answering the OP, I'd say the ratings are better than they have been in previous years. I still prefer to use custom rosters, primarily because potentials are still a little funky (tho also better than previous years)

Prospects potentials are all through the roof as usual.

The base roster has 30 90+ OVR Players

After 5 years that number jumps to 60+ 90 OVR Players

After 10 its 75+ 90 OVR Players and you end up with 80 OVR SP's in AAA

That’s right! Going to be a great year with the changes to it this year!

Ratings are crazy. No way should A player's power, speed, arm etc drop 30 points from November until now. The defensive ratings are absurd how often and how much they change.

What player are you referring to? And it also could just mean the ratings were way off in November.

Yeah the ratings are usually off by November, based heavily on short sample sizes from the current season.

It looks like they changed how they calculate ratings a bit, so it’s not the OOTB roster, it’s how it is now.

Still shouldn't see certain player's arm strength drop 45 points. Or speed change significantly. Makes me think they don't actually have a legit system for rating players.. I'm positive they tweak defense ratings to player's whose overall rating is too high or too low. This should not be the case.

For example, Harold Ramirez went from having 67 arm strength in November to 33! His speed dropped over 15 points also. This is just one of many.. I've seen attributes drop more, not to mwention he hasn't played a single MLB game during that time obviously.

I wonder if the arm strength changed so drastically because he is often a DH. Maybe they want to discourage users from playing him in the field.

We have Ramirez at 54 arm strength and 72 speed this year.

Do you have a lot of prospects ratings on the spreadsheet?
