Hitting Difficulty And Breaking Ball Speed Slider
So it's only day 1 but once again I'm swinging at everything because I can't judge where pitches are going and on breaking balls I'm swinging way too early. Interesting thing is there's now a breaking ball speed slider. Has anyone fiddled with it to match fastball speed and has it helped at all?

Moving this to the sliders section, as you are basically talking about adjusting sliders....Moderator

Re: Hitting Difficulty And Breaking Ball Speed Slider
I don't have the game yet and real most likely not have time to play in till sat any way but I really wondering about the off-speed and fastball speed pitch speed slider. Like ever year of the show I cant hit changeups at all because they look like a fastball to me like 95% of the time and as a result I either swing way to early and get weak contact or even foul it off. Or it looks like a good pitch to hit and ends up dropping just low at the last second. Even when I do pick up that it is a changeup and try to want back on it I am still early most of the time. I am thinking with these new sliders maybe I will have to have the off-speed slider 1 higher than the rest and maybe that will fix that problem for me. Any thoughts about that?Comment

Re: Hitting Difficulty And Breaking Ball Speed Slider
I maxed both sliders even in my first game because I was way early on even 95 MPH fastballs. Something just made the pitches seem to be coming in much slower on default (where I had it in 15). Maybe it's because I "hit from the pitcher's view" (basically like it looks like on TV).
Curves and such look too much like wiffle balls. Plus, higher speed "defines" the pitch more (it will break sharper and perhaps "sooner" at least relative to my eye/timing so I can lay off/try to check swing, etc) so only the better change ups get me consistently (when I'm not being stupid at the plate anyway or anticipating fastballs too much).
To me, on 5, it looked like it was spinning in the zone too much (like it will be a fastball). Higher, I see more "signatures" on the pitches. Curves have the "hump", sliders will start "sliding" more definitively, etc.
I love this new offspeed slider. Hope it's a staple going forward."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
