I don't use contact swing hardly ever, I can count on one hand how many times I've used it in 41 games and that was when my pitcher was hitting in an NL park but that's it. My issue is when I'm late I'm not late enough to miss which is why I thought about timing but I'm assuming that would negatively effect other areas of the game as well which is what I don't want. I'll probably bump pitch speed up another notch and see if that helps but I assume that will probably negatively effect my ability to draw walks lol.

Basically I was just curious what the side effects were of lowering timing overall.

Hey Chef, I tried your 5-5-5 theory and even kept wind at 6 (Ive played @ 6 all year) and wow, talk about painting. The cpu did nothing but paint the corners. I couldnt get a good hit on anything. I lost 1-2 to Texas opening day. Are you seeing different pitching between ace and rotation guys? Have you moved away from 5-5-5?

Armor you suggest moving human timing up for me if struggling with hitting on All star?

Not only would I increase fastball pitch speed, I would decrease the offspeed pitch by 1. Personally, I hit from a broadcast behind the pitcher. But lowering the offspeed stuff really forces me to focus at the plate. I play fastball speed at 9 and offspeed pitches at 8.

I have pitch speed set to 10 for both and I'm currently ranked 10th in the league in walks. I drew 5 my last game. I use the show 15 camera which is the best hitting cam IMO

I checked Bobheads excellent last gen explanation of Sliders thread and he suggests to receive more strikeouts increase pitch speed first and if that fails try lowering your timing. If using directional hitting never lower the contact slider.

I would simply move contact up one to 6.

Start there and keep playing. I also have no idea about your approach. Are you patient? Or a free swinger. Are you able to draw walks?

So many factors in being a good hitter over the course of 162 games.

So I am using quick counts on all my classic roster files, The Matheny Manifesto Year 2 and The Quest For Donny Baseball Year 3. I will also use it on the forth coming Fictional Roster franchise I will be embarking on soon (Bacon’s Fictional Roster with added fictional baseball movie caps I am creating).
Playing full counts on my current 2017 Yankees franchise. This franchise I want to play every pitch.

I want to be able to soak in all these great rosters and using quick counts will allow me that. It has changed since I last used it on MLBTS14.

Far more balanced with many more 1-1 counts to start. It is a lot of fun and I can play 2 games inside 1:30 without skipping most cut scenes.

Full counts takes me 1:20 - 1:35 typically to play an entire game as I rarely skip cut scenes and soak in the game.

I hate when I get impatient and start pushing the X button to get to the next batter and they were going to show me something that I haven't noticed before. Then I'm like I missed that! The only thing I notice is different (game wise) on Quick Counts is they don't show the flash screen on top for the pitcher-batter history. They will tell you at times the history but nothing on the screen like they do on full counts.

Nice catch that's why on any modern day franchise I'll use full counts.

Which I don't know why they couldn't do that for Quick Counts but I guess it is give and take. I've only played a couple games with full counts...I noticed they don't do it EVERY at bat but most. Is that correct?

And do you notice if the stats change the next time you face the hitter? I haven't noticed yet. Say you hit a HR, the next game you face that same pitcher will that HR be on there?

Just search the Show forums for "Directional Hitting Guide". It's an interesting and informative read and it's helped my hitting a lot over the last 4 games. Had a 10 run, 14 hit outburst a few games ago. Playing against the Red Sox in Fenway I was using my right handed power hitters to pull the ball towards the green monster and it really paid off. 2 homers for Sanchez and I must have hit 4 others off the wall.

Yeah there is definitely a difference. I've started going in before every start and jotting down the individual control ratings for each pitch that the CPU SP throws for my upcoming game so I enter with a gameplan. For instance, last game against Jose Quintana, he has good control of his 4-Seamer but everything else was marginal so I sat on that knowing he could locate it well in hopes that I could get a few hits off it, lower his confidence in it which will then lower his control in it and maybe have some success. It worked early on as I was able to score 3 runs thanks to back-back-back doubles but then Quintana settled in (7.0 IP, 8 Hits, 3 ER, 3 BB's, 6 K's) and had a nice 61% strikes thrown rate. The game before that Sonny Gray was spotting his pitches well at times and missing a little more then Quintana was. The 2 games before that one Oakland had Cotton and Triggs on the hill and the differences were vast. Cotton tried to overpower me and it didn't work until he started mixing in off-speed pitches to keep me off balance. Triggs on the other hand was just abysmal, walking guys right and left, struggling to find his command, it was an ugly performance. Tonight I play Chicago again and they have Alex Wood on the hill (traded for him early in the season for whatever reason but Chicago is in 1st place in the division so there's that) and I'll let you know how it goes.

I'll honestly never go back from the 5-5-5 setup, I still get hits, still score runs but the CPU doesn't feel like it's in a slump every game pitching wise. They might hit the corners a bit much at times but if you remain patient they will make mistakes and as they tire they will make more mistakes. I've been keeping track of the strike rate for every CPU SP since I made the change to 5-5-5 and only once would I say the CPU pounded the zone too much (67% strikes thrown) but at the same time I played Toronto who had Lirano on the mound and he threw 50% of his pitches for strikes (41/82) so it certainly happens.

I love the game currently, gonna keep bumping my pitch speed up to make it that much tougher as I'm still hitting at a high rate with it at 5-5-5 and not striking out much at all (I did increase it last game and struck out 7 times, previous 2 games I struck out 4 times combined) but the CPU has been potent (Chicago had 6 runs and 14 hits off me last game and that was with Iwakuma starting) so I'm extremely happy with the results I'm getting. Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions so we don't get Armor's thread too far off course, I'll be happy to help anyway I can.

EDIT - To add perspective to this, I went 17-9 in April with Seattle, so far in May I'm sitting at 8-8 so my team has come down to earth since the chnage to 5-5-5.

And do you notice if the stats change the next time you face the hitter? I haven't noticed yet. Say you hit a HR, the next game you face that same pitcher will that HR be on there?
If I recall correctly it does update. I hit a HR with Kyle Seager and his next AB up it mentioned his line against that same pitcher and it now showed he had an extra HR credited towards it. I played Chicago last night and it mentioned Melky Cabrera's stat line off Iwakuma and that updated when the same matchup happened later in the game and showed the hit he got in the first inning off him.
