Armor and others playing HOF classic pitching, what type of results are you seeing? The CPU has been teeing off on me. It does not necessarily seem unrealistic as the Mariners have bad pitching but just was curious what others are seeing. I do love that you walk so many guys on HOF.

You definitely have to be more careful with pitch selection and location. But it's not nearly as drastic as I feared.

I currently have it set at 10 because I was trying to get up to Veteran+ quicker.

I just wonder how you would do in a season if you leave it at 5 and just let it go. The only thing is when your hot and doing good its going to get harder. And then when your struggling its going to get easier. Could be bad or good.

I pretty much pitch to where the catcher calls it so maybe I should switch it up.

Yes you should. I find myself shaking off my catcher a little more often. And that is cool as you should shake him off. They are not perfect.

I tossed 7.2 strong innings with Tanaka this morning. I had a tough first inning. Long loud fly out then Adam Jones worked an 0-2 count into a walk.

Machado comes up. We battle to a 3-2 count and my two strikes were excellent sliders. Sanchez calls for another and I hung it.

              2R HR

I then shut them down for the rest of the game moving pitches in and out of the strike zone. I used everything in his arsenal. Splitter, cutter, 4 seam slider etc.

A perfect example of a shake off moment was against Chris Davis. Had a 1-2 count. Sanchez calls for a slider. I did not like the idea of trying to back door him and take a chance at another hanger.

Shook him off and threw a 4seam country fastball up and in on his hands.

              K

So yes, mix it up, don't fall into patterns because on HOF they will adjust quickly.

              Its awesome!!!!

And I am playing full counts again and resigned to the fact that I will have to sim games this year to play all these roster files I have.

Quick counts is great but I lose that feel and pace that I love, using them. I love working counts at the dish and setting up hitters on the bump. That is the soul of this game and my play style.

I will still use them when I only have an hour to play. But when I know I can play 3-4 hours on the weekends......full counts.

Thanks for the help with the control/consistency Armor. I'm 4 games in with the adjustment and that has worked out a lot better for my skills. I appreciate it. Thank you.

Good hitting teams will destroy mistake pitches on HOF. I just recently finished a series against the Pirates where I took 2 of 3 and they could do nothing offensively. The game I lost was 3-1 because I faced a very stingy Garrett Cole. My next series against the hated Red Sox I lost 2 of 3 giving up 9 and 10 runs in the 2 losses. I don't think I got Mookie Betts out in either game. Next game against the Orioles they teed off on me. Get behind in counts against good hitting teams or teams with power and you'll definitely pay for mistakes. I love it!

I love disagreeing with what my catcher calls and then striking out the batter. Then again, there have been times when the batter jacks one out the yard when I shake off the call. HOF is great as it puts more fear in me when I am down and the count.

I just broke a 6 game losing streak in a 12-10 game. I was up by 7 runs but the White Sox murdered my tired bullpen and I ended up having to use Edwin Diaz for the save. These games happen in baseball so it's pretty cool to see it happen in the game.

I've felt like my Mets in my Mariners franchise as my bullpen is exhausted and I have to rotate marginal relievers from AAA to the majors to get a fresh arm. I've thought they can do more with fatigue but the way you have to rotate players is pretty good already.

I think I'm gonna give the HOF pitching setup a go now. Are the only changes you made raising user control and consistency to 4 and dropping cpu contact to 5 with everything else being the same as before on AS? Lastly, are you still hitting on AS or did you jump to HOF there as well?

EDIT - HOF is no joke. Chris Heston on the mound at Boston and lets just say I already regret moving to HOF. His stat line is 2.0 IP, 6 ER, 9 Hits, 2 K's. Boston has hit two 3-run HR's and I've yet to get an out in the third inning. I got no idea how y'all pitch on this difficulty as I've got the CPU hitting everything hard whether its a mistake pitch or a pitch damn near in the dirt.

Yeah...you captured all of the changes...hitting is still on all star.

And yes, HOF is tough...if your guy has bad stuff in a given game, you really have to watch it.

That's just it, the hitting didn't feel realistic at all at times and other times it did. Watching the CPU take a slider buried down and in and hit it hard enough right back up the middle for a solid single being one example of that. Seeing Pablo Sandoval take a curve that was nearly in the dirt and well below the zone somehow hit it with perfect timing and precision lacing it for another single are the times it doesn't feel anywhere near realistic. Not everyone hits bad balls like Vladimir Guerrero but apparently Sandoval does.

This is the exact issue I had when I ventured to HOF on last years game. The CPU would hit pitches solidly that they really should have rolled over or beaten into the ground.

I lost the game 15-5 and Boston finished with 20 hits. I haven't given up that many hits in a game all season nor runs. All their damage came in 3 innings with 14 of their 15 runs coming in 2 innings.

I'll give it a couple games but if the CPU continues to just hammer pitches that are nowhere near the zone I'll happily go back to AS. I wasn't exactly dominating on AS as I had a middle of the road team ERA so maybe the jump to HOF wasn't warranted in my case, time will tell.

You really need to drop timing on HOF to eliminate that IMO. I have CPU timing at 3 and it greatly reduces them murdering "pitchers" pitches, while still penalizing me for a poor pitch. I have given up 10+ runs and in games and mowed the CPU down giving up only 2 or 3 hits when I am hitting my spots.

Thats another thing I'm noticing which I assume is tied into timing but I can't strike the CPU out at all. I've managed to strike the CPU out 3 times in the last 12 innings pitched, all on HOF of course. This game Felix and his 75 k/9 rating has resulted in 0 K's. The CPU either chases it but makes contact and fouls it off or gets a hit or they don't chase anything at all. I had an AB against Pedroia and was up 0-2, I tossed a slider away, a changeup down and away and he took both. I then tried to put a fastball up and in and he turned on it like he knew it was coming. I swear sometimes I feel like Armor and I are playing 2 completely different games, for me there is absolutely no setting the CPU up as they are super human on HOF. If I could get the CPU to be just a little more aggressive on AS then I'd be fine but unfortunately they take a few too many pitches for my liking.
