    Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

Awesome sliders, really. Congrats for them being so good so early (game just came out).

The only thing earlier than that is... my timing! Good lord... i can draw 2 or 3 walks per game, i strike out only between 3 or 6 times a game, but i swear that 90% of my swings are early or very early and i can´t hit to save my life.

Last MLB i had was 14, played it until a few months ago and i was K´d much more often, i couldn´t draw so many walks but i did managed to hit the ball on good timing a lot of times...

I can´t put my finger on it, but something feels off... maybe it´s the camera that allows me to judge the location of the speed very well (never drawed so many walks or so few K´s) but not the velocity!

I use a custom camera. It´s like wide but slightly off set and a bit more zoomed out...

So why not move the pitch speeds up?

Between different TV displays and age/reaction times, that's really what those sliders should be for. Have you moved them up to 8/8 or 9/9 and see what happens?

I forgot, i already tried that and what happened was that my timing improved but i couldn´t locate pitch´s, i had no time to see if a pitch looked to be a ball or a strike so i was just guessing...

It´s a tough spot... if i increase pitch velocity i loose the ability to judge pitch´s location. With the 5-7 of the sliders i locate the ball very well, but swing early at everything.

The camera was the only thing i didn´t test yet, maybe that is the problem...

          Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

I did have the issue of swinging early at offspeed stuff, and I had to tell myself to sit back and wait on those pitches, which is essentially what you have to do if you're at the plate IRL.

I'm not usually ahead on the fastballs though. I can square those up pretty well and judge balls and strikes on 7/5.

So either I sit off-speed and know I'm going to wait longer to swing (and break out the emergency hack to foul away good fastballs late) or I sit on the fastball and if it's off-speed I'll tend to let it go or judge early on that it's a curve (it goes up before it comes down) or change-up (does it seem slow and if it already looks low, let it go). That's my mind set. Not sure it'll help you but I figured I'd at least say my process out loud for you.

Anyone play with retro camera for fielding? Very cool. Can really see the ball physics

Not yet was thinking of giving it a try, probably will now when I fire the game up soon since finally see someone else endorsing it. I've been using dynamic so far, I swear I think every fly ball is long gone only to have it fall in outfielder glove way short of the wall lol

Hey Royce! Yeah, i do. Last one i bought was MLB 14, played it until a few months ago. This year i decided it was time to move on to a more recent version since the rosters were starting to show it´s age...

This MLB 17 is cutting my PES 17 time a lot!

Still haven´t settled on the team to choose this year, but i got some St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia from a friend who went to the US last year so, im rolling with them for now!

I gave it a spin my first few games and it is a cool view, but I love broadcast. I kept going back to broadcast lol.

On another note I am seeing an alarming trend with wild pitches being blocked by catchers properly, but resulting in base runners who are rated 50 speed and below walking to second and third with no fear of being thrown out.

                      It is a major trend.

While I love the fact that catchers are not popping and pouncing like cheetahs anymore, the by-product of this adjustment has been them not having any urgency in even attempting to get the ball a little quicker and the result is this. It is making pitching with men on base a lot tougher this season. I love to get filthy with 0-2 and 1-2 counts typically and try to get batters to chase, but the flip side is now you are taking a major chance at a dirt ball and base runners moving with ease.

I can live with 70 or higher speed rating runners getting good reads and taking off. But when I see 25-30 speed rated guys waltzing into bases on balls in the dirt.....it is an issue.

I can't ignore it. So I will see if turning down base-runner speed down to 2 (and countering base stealing ability up one more for true basestealers) can be the balance we need to cure this or at least curb the success ratio for average to below average speed on the base paths.

                      Stay tuned folks!!!

                        Agreed on this.

The velocity of the ball popping away from the catchers is cool but too frequent.

I've thrown out a bunch of guys that had no business going too.

The other two issues are catchers under handing the ball back to the plate on a wild pitch with a runner coming from third. I've seen this 3-4 times in 15 games and it's bad. Ditto pitchers slow to cover first.

Yes...the new ball physics have a lot to do with this too I suspect.

I am highly confident the team at SDS will give us a good gameplay tune up patch. I know they have been seeing and reading and playing the game themselves. They probably already knew about some issues before release but have deadlines to meet.

Imagine the days when we did not have gameplay patches? We have come so far!!

Yep I've seen this a few times in Play Now and it is very frustrating. Had a guy move from 1st to 3rd in one at bat from this lol. I am confident it will be fixed though.

I think moving baserunner speed down a notch would help, but do you think fielder's arm strength ratings should also be dropped as well?

I have OF arm strength at 4 and that gives a good separation of top arms and average to below average arms.

IF arm strength I feel plays perfectly at default.

Fielder Reaction at 4 and OF Speed at 4 also really balances things nicely.
