    Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

The only thing I'm noticing that I still wish was slightly different were doubles down the line. Nomo noted this in his CPU/CPU thread as well.

There are balls that should roll down the lines much quicker in the OF corners (I think).

Secondly, while much improved, the OFs still seem too fast to get to balls in the gaps or the balls are just hanging too much (READ: Ball Physics) and we're not getting enough gappers.

None of this, as I've said before, really detracts from my enjoyment, those are just the couple notes I'm making on fielder speed (maybe it's positioning/depth too, IDK). I wouldn't want to make anyone slower or react less quickly but maybe the ball physics will come a long a little more and we'll see more of that.

IF arm strength I feel plays perfectly at default.

Fielder Reaction at 4 and OF Speed at 4 also really balances things nicely.

On another note I am seeing an alarming trend with wild pitches being blocked by catchers properly, but resulting in base runners who are rated 50 speed and below walking to second and third with no fear of being thrown out.

      It is a major trend.

While I love the fact that catchers are not popping and pouncing like cheetahs anymore, the by-product of this adjustment has been them not having any urgency in even attempting to get the ball a little quicker and the result is this. It is making pitching with men on base a lot tougher this season. I love to get filthy with 0-2 and 1-2 counts typically and try to get batters to chase, but the flip side is now you are taking a major chance at a dirt ball and base runners moving with ease.

I can live with 70 or higher speed rating runners getting good reads and taking off. But when I see 25-30 speed rated guys waltzing into bases on balls in the dirt.....it is an issue.

I can't ignore it. So I will see if turning down base-runner speed down to 2 (and countering base stealing ability up one more for true basestealers) can be the balance we need to cure this or at least curb the success ratio for average to below average speed on the base paths.

      Stay tuned folks!!!

I've thrown out a bunch of guys that had no business going too.

The other two issues are catchers under handing the ball back to the plate on a wild pitch with a runner coming from third. I've seen this 3-4 times in 15 games and it's bad. Ditto pitchers slow to cover first.
Have you guys reported this in the bug report? I would assume you have but would hate for the SCEA team to not see this thread if you haven't. I am sure they would look into these issues.

I would do it for you but I haven't seen it yet in my limited time with the game. If I see it, I will. That way I will know what to say and how and when it happened.

Just got the game and I'm loving it. Put your sliders in immediately as yours have historically been good in other titles. Haven't played a baseball game since MVP 05 and have been struggling with hitting. 2 hits in each of my first 2 games and had a 9 hit 6 run game on the third. Any tips for directional hitting. How exactly do the mechanics work. Was getting good contact on some with normal swings but they ended as fly balls and dribblers. Do I need to power swing to get it into the outfield? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New tv since last year? Try putting your tv in game mode. It's possible your experiencing some input lag. Otherwise try changing views. I rake with the wide view and offset zoom, but not as much with the fish eye.

Otherwise with directional just be patient and watch the ball out of the pitchers hand. Be very picky in batter plus counts, look for your pitch and drive it. Timing is king. I should add directional is very attribute driven on the outcome. That's why I like it.

Here's a cool link to batting averages and counts, only semi relevant, but it's incredible how well the show replicates this aspect of baseball.

You definitely want to be hitting in 2-0 and 3-1 counts. Those are the best.

If you're swinging at everything and constantly 0-1, 0-2, 1-2 it's going to be a long day for you. Get good at making good takes on close pitches to get the count back in your favor.

This is the biggest thing these sliders did to improve my experience, both last year and this year, without the strike frequency lower the CPU would just hammer the zone on 0-2 and 1-2 and you could never get the count back in your favor.

I can't tell you how many 0-2 and 1-2 counts I've flipped back to 2-2 or 3-2 by being patient (usually with better hitters, crappy hitters might see strikes on those counts).

Is there any sliders you can adjust for this? This has always kind of annoyed me too. I wish player fatigue could be turned off.

It would annoy me in the past because I want both team's lineups to be accurate. Last time I played the Show was 15 and I remember a workaround was to start a game controlling no team (putting the controllers in the middle) and no teams would make substitutions for fatigue or stats. Then I would just select the team I was going to control in the game. I'll have to see if this still works.
