Re: BYU 14's "Old Guy" quick count sliders for The Show 17

Well I went back to my original season with the Cubs. The Cubs went into Fenway Park to open up a great series against the Red Sox. The Cubs had a 6-1 lead going to the 6th inning and Anderson was giving them a good start. Then the bullpen let them slowly come back and Davis blew the save and gave up a walk off 2 run single in the 9th to lose the game 9-8.

    Cubs 8 15 0
    Red Sox 9 13 0

HR: Cubs 3 Red Sox 3
    2B: Cubs 4 Red Sox 3

Nice and I can see them being top 5 in HR with 3 legit 35-40 guys and another 3 capable of 20+ in that lineup. How many walks are you drawing?

Just curious what hitting view anybody using these sliders is using?

Pretty much using your set as is with a couple minor tweaks.
Only thing out of whack seems to be hum BB.
Far too many, using this set for the past 8 or so games im averaging nearly 7 walks a game...insane.
Even with cpu control\consistency at 4 it is still too easy to daw 5+ walks a game.
            Any ideas?
            Keep raising them?

I would leave control down at 3 and go consistency to 5 or 6, raising pitch speed a tick helps too. You will get too many meatballs if you raise both.

I use catcher zoom and raised speed to 5/7 which has me swinging at bad pitches once in a while since there is less time to react and the view makes you judge it quicker.

I am tied for 26th with 56 walks in 22 games. So about 2.5 walks per game.

Ok i will give this a shot.
Not sure i understand the logic though.
You would think raising control\consistency would mean they should be able to paint the black relentlessly not lead to more meatball pitches..

The CPU won't live on the black as much on veteran, so you want them to be a little off.

4-4 on All-star would be solid, I would just move timing to 4 if you went that route.

But try 3-6 with pitch speed up a tick and let me know

Ah, sorry i should have clarified. I am playing on all star.
Tried it at 3/5 and got 4 walks so much better.I'll continue with that for awhile and see how it shakes out.

Hi there, I've been using meter since probably 2009, but I am interested in classic. How exactly do you pitch using it... Is it a 1 button press or do you hold it until you release. Sorry for the dumb question

Just curious since we are basically all in the same age group.
Do you guys use the legends in your franchise or did you use OSFM rosters that do not include the legends.
I like having the legends but also like having full minors so I'm conflicted on what to start my franchise with.

Actually a very good question, as there is varying points of view on it. As a rule a quick tap is supposed take a little off it, and holding it longer adds a little umph to the pitch, both at the expense of accuracy from my game play. In my experience each pitcher has a different sweet spot, so I hold the button to the point just before the pitcher starts his motion towards home plate, which can vary greatly pitcher to pitcher and going from the stretch vs. full windup. At that point ratings have an impact and you can definitely see the difference pitcher to pitcher IMO.

Doing this, combined with the clean screen really adds to the immersion for me and forces me to study all the nuances of each pitcher, which is kind of cool. Although it feels like I am holding the pitch button down for 5 seconds when Tanaka pitches

I typically don't as I like the OSFM rosters for my main franchise. But I will generally make a "fun" franchise that does include them when I want to take a break, so it is only a few games a month. I will also play the games from the legend franchise in the retro ball parks, usually taking the Polo Grounds for my home field.

BYU - I like the sliders to say the least. I have been a meter pitcher for years and just shy of 50 so I can relate. I became curious with your Classic setting and I must say after two games I like it. You are right, you need to know your pitcher and I like it. I would rather it fall on the pitcher and his rating rather than me trying to hit the marks. I am going to continue to use this for sure. The sliders are good so far. I like the HOF pitching sliders and see your point with the stamina sliders and everything else. I am still in Spring Training and am using the dynamic hitting, I believe I am in the veteran area now. I also use modifiers that I apply each game to certain sliders after drawing 3 cards.

You are on to something with a timing of 1 for the CPU and 3 for Human. I was out hit by the Yankees in my last game 9-8, but the O's came across with a 6-4 win. I was a little optimistic with the timing so low, but the hitting was good anyhow. I just realized that I had the solid hit on 4 not 3 as in yours. I know that solid hits impact BA and the type of hit. I may leave it at 4 for now. I know that most other slider posters have it between 3-4 as well, but most have it on 4. I did add in some -1 modifiers for solid hit for both the CPU and Human to add that variety if that card come up. I also use a fielder speed of 1 and played on 0 last year and they still seem a little fast. I added modifiers here to increase the fielding speed if drawn, just to give the fielders a little more range for that game.

I will keep you posted on how the sliders are working out. Thanks for the ideas and slider thoughts as they have helped me fine tune mine as well.
