Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

OK guys, so you gotta try not to fall into the rabbit hole of constant adjustments to the sliders.

I am still playing with the OP set to a tee. I am looking at two very small tweaks to errors and CPU Pitch control (again looking at not a definite).

But I can safely report I am striking out the CPU at a realistic clip, getting the CPU to swing and miss (chase at out of the zone as well as up and in and low in the zone) and I am also striking out myself and drawing a realistic number of walks. Please watch some of my streams. It is all there to see on video.

But I am early in my season. Once I complete the month of April I will post my team rankings in the vital stats as well as my players individual stats.

I am never touching the fielder reaction and fielder speed. It is absolutely perfect at 3/3. Baserunner speed and stealing is perfect.

The CPU has been mashing me of late after 6 straight games of me dominating them. Baseball is a marathon and sample size is so critical before drawing broad based conclusions. Not only that, we as users can go through slumps in terms of our own sharpness in hitting and pitching. And it will have nothing to do with the actual sliders at all.

That is the ebb and flow of baseball in a nutshell.

So sit tight, keep playing and do not tweak too much or stray too much from the base set. Otherwise you will get caught up in paralysis by analysis. I never allow that to happen to me. I am enjoying the game far too much to worry or look for small statistical discrepancies.

Remember this is not manger only mode. You are hitting and pitching, throwing and making tactical decisions. When you have human input statistics will never...ever be perfect.

Are you really having fun? Are you having exciting games? Are you getting great hit variety, defensive web gems, some critical errors? Critical walks? Big K's? Are you feeling like you are playing a great game of MLB baseball?

If the answer is yes.....you are good to go and don't worry about the inertia of statistics. In the end you will most likely see a reversion to the mean. I will also say if you are a play one sim 5 player......you will simply not see the incredible variety this game offers. IMO you need to play 100-120 games minimum to appreciate the game as a whole and understand why I use these settings. You will literally see it all over 100 plus games.

With carry over saves I am able to play this particular franchise (Yankees Year 2) every pitch every inning. By the time 19 comes out I will be in the Winter Meetings with this file ready to move it over for the actual 2019 schedule. I average a game a day. If I miss a couple of days....I will make it up with 2 on the weekend.

Stick with it. Near default is perfect for me this cycle. You can see I don't have any drastic changes except for 3/3 on the fielder speed and reaction and 8 on the injury front. They really tuned the gameplay and AI on the diamond this year.

    Big time.

No chance I'm pitching on All-Star. If you're getting good result, more power to you though.

Totally agree with Armor on this one. These sliders play amazing, just trust the process. I’ve gone games where I only have 4 or 5 K’s and others with 9+. You really have to have a plan to strike out the cpu.

Gagnon are you on analog pitching? I'm in very similar boat to you guys, enjoying the strikeout walk balance on HOF pitching but wouldnt mind a little more pop when the CPU does line up a mistake pitch.

Thanks bro. I'll keep at it

edit: do I have to move left stick? I didn't last year. Unless I forget lol

Haven't heard that before, maybe turn your vibration on if you have it off and make sure you getting that feedback when you try sending them.

No left stick needed unless there's more than one runner on base, then you have to use it to select a runner or it will send all of them.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

Just caught up on the last few pages of this thread.

For those who aren't seeing enough strikeouts I would agree with Armor about not getting caught up in constantly tweaking and just give the sample size a chance to straighten things out. I'm seeing a realistic number of strikeouts and walks so far. You have to consider the streakiness of baseball and the law of averages and large numbers. After 162 if the average is 8 strikeouts per game for example, it doesn't mean you'll have 8 strikeouts exactly in all 162. You will have games with 1 or 2 and maybe some games with 15 or more. As I mentioned before, I was having trouble with offense out of the gate but I just chalked it up to a user slump and stuck with everything and now it's beginning to turn around. I do keep going back and forth with All Star and HOF hitting though, I'm still indecisive about it.

One change I made was I have CPU control, consistency, and strike frequency all on 4 just because otherwise I don't have a good enough eye to walk a realistic amount if the CPU is throwing too many strikes.

Also, I have my injury slider only on 6 just because I personally prefer to have less injuries.

**I should also mention that after years of following the catchers exact pitch and location calls almost 100% of the time, I have started calling basically all pitches myself lately and I'm really liking it.

I am so far 13-28 in my Mariners rebuild franchise. I blew up the roster and sent this team into a full rebuild. In my Rangers vs Mariners game, I managed to hit an inside the park homerun!!! Ryan Hensley hit a semi-deep bomb up the center field and the CF tried to make a diving catch and just missed. The Ball proceeded to roll all the way to the wall and my guy just puts on the wheels and got home easily with a crazy wild throw to home. Already had a guy on base too so we score to tie it 2-2. Never had an inside the park homerun and it was awesome! I manage to lose the game 5-3 but it was fun. I'll try and post a video of it later. (:
