Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
With Armor on vacation, I will be around to answer any questions. I’ve been using the similar sliders that Armor has listed and honestly, I can’t foresee that many changes. In the 10 games I’ve played, this has been the tightest version of the show out of the box that I’ve ever played, gameplay wise.

Agreed. This is amazing! MLBTS really hit it out of the park this year.Really wish sports games played to ratings!
Only thing SIM about sports games now, are the team name and players
CFB 25 The absolute GOAT!!!
MLB 23 FOREVER 20 is better, 23 just for Guardians
Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Hof hitting is the answer and using pitch speed for fastball 8 and off speed to 7.
another thing is homeruns ...
i played now 20 games and hit only 2 and the cpu 4. i changed it to 6 for both but three games in a row 1 hr. now i have it on 7 for bothComment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Does the batter swing with the pitch if you don’t press a direction? In other words, when I see the yellow buckshot feedback, it’s always centered. Is the batter just swinging dead center of the plate regardless of where the pitch is?
I’m terrible at hitting; it’s hard enough for me to judge if the pitch is a ball or a strike without worrying about which quadrant the pitch will end up in.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
I like the way the game plays OOTB. I feel like they really nailed the timing this year for Directional Hitting, which has been the problem in the past!
When I "feel" like I timed something properly I am getting the proper results and the feedback is confirming what I "feel". It's the first time in The Show where 99% of the time what I am feeling as a hitter is translating to results in the game, and that is amazing.
That doesn't mean I am always getting a hit, but balls that I feel I hit well are. Whether it's a grounder, a fly out, or a HR. This is really really good.
Armor mentioned this might be the first year we go up to HoF hitting, I thought same after killing Red Sox 20-4 with default sliders, and hitting 8 HRs.
I tried HoF hitting for 2 games and everything I said about "feeling" better goes out the window. HoF feels like All-Star hitting from past years. Where I feel like I time things properly, but the game says I was late, or early. One could argue I need more practice, but it simply doesn't pass the "eye test" the way All-Star does out the box.
I think lowering power and/or solid hits might be the key with All-Star, but a larger sample size is needed.
One thing I don't like is CPU Manager Hook. I currently have it at 9 and still think they leave guys in there too long. I also lowered reliever stamina to 1 to see if that would force CPU to make call to pen more often. As a result, it's better but I cannot tell if it's stamina or Manager Hook at 9. I till feel it could be better. Thinking of setting stamina back because it then hurts you and CPU in franchise when the relief pitcher throws 20 pitches but is dead next day. Not realisic, but neither is CPU not using bullpen effectively, sigh.
I also think the CPU and Human Pitching throw too many strikes. I have Classic pitching set to Legend and I still can get thru most innings with less than 12 pitches, while striking out 1 or 2 per inning. I feel CPU does mix it up a lot, but give in to good hitters and eventually throw strikes in hitters counts too often. Again, something to look at.
Overall, game plays amazing out of the box and just needs some minor adjustments. Everything I mentioned (aside from CPU bullpen management) needs a bigger sample size. I am extremely happy with the product out the box and think this maybe the best year for sliders because we will be solving for minor things, not broken physics or bad timing results that I believe plagued hitting for ever prior to 2018.Last edited by El_MaYiMbE; 03-25-2018, 12:07 AM.Comment

This is a very special year for gameplay out of the box.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Is pulse pitching any kind of a viable option for this set? I use directional hitting, and love watching my fielders make plays and seeing animations I might not if I were controlling them, but classic pitching always eludes me. The other thing is that I don’t want to play with the API on, since I feel like it’s too easy and I’m cruising. If I HAVE to use classic for this set, I will, but I would prefer pulse.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
Don't pay attention to the buckshot. It's just there to give you a general idea of the players plate coverage. The CPU is moving it on its own in the background, hidden from you, based on different attributes depending on your swing choice (usually vision is the big one though). Choosing a direction is more about gaining slight buffs or debuffs, timing is the biggest factor as to where the ball goes. You can check out all the potential buffs and debuffs in the link to the Directional Hitting Guide in the OP.
Great information, thank you. I remember last year there was a patch that added the buckshot, before that swing feedback was a circle that showed where the batter swung. It just confused me for some reason.

You guys must be gods on the sticks. I find hitting perfectly tuned on AS right now. As far as pitching, I’ve made it out of the 6th exactly once with my starters due to the pitch counts reaching or exceeding 100Twitch: Goblue81188Comment

There is still a bit of randomness that lets ratings play out while also offering me some control of the outcome.Comment
