    Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders

    All-Star Break!

I have reached the break 5 games out of the first place and the exact same amount out of the wildcard. The season thus far has had plenty of ups and downs, slumps and streaks. I sit at 52-45.

I have to say that playing on Legend has really forced me to re-evaluate the fundamentals and strategy needed to compete at this level, especially in regards to pitching. I simply approach the game so much differently than I did at the beginning of the season.

Overall, I am loving how the sliders are playing out. The biggest tweaks since the beginning of the season were lowering CPU contact to 2 and decreasing solid hits to 4, both of which have worked out really nicely. I feel that the run-scoring variety has been fantastic and the hit percentages ebb and flow. I was killing it on doubles recently but since then I am on a streak of more singles, so it is balancing out in the big picture.

If I had to choose an area that needs a bit more focus, it is lack of CPU walks. A lot of this has to do with how I pitch though. I try to get ahead of the batter as much as possible and end up with fewer walks to batters because they are making contact on pitches and putting them in play. On the flip side, I am drawing plenty of walks and striking out a bunch as well, so that feels good.

I have fiddled a bit with the FB,LD,GB percentages, but it seems that while the CPU percentages are really close, mine tend towards higher FB%. It seems that a lot of other gamers have this same issue, so really, as long as the game plays well, I will just accept it for what it is.

Alright, let's get to some stats, then it's time for me to get back to the game! As always, I am open to conversation as well as providing you with any other stats you would like to know that I do not have posted here!

If you want the full-stat picture, here is the link to my google doc. It has all 97 games stats posted and YTD totals. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...0T0/edit#gid=0

    Team Totals (League Rank):

    BA: .239 (26th)
    AB: 3226 (29th)
    Runs: 429 (11th)
    Hits:770 (29th)
    2B: 161 (11th)
    3B: 27 (1st, by one)
    HR: 116 (9th)
    RBI: 418 (12th)
    SB: 40 (29th)
    CS: 22 (T-1st)
    SB%: .645 (14th)
BB: 297 (24th, and proud of it)
    SO: 800 (24th...yay?)
    SLG .413 (13th)
    OBP: .308 (27th)
    TB: 1333 (T-16th)
    PA: 3590 (30th)
    GIDP: 71 (30th)
    ERR: 62 (30th)
    FLD%: .982 (30th)

    Pitching:

    ERA: 4.25 (25th)
    CG: 1 (T-11th)
    SO: 2 (28th)
    Saves: 34 (T-5th)
    BS: 18 (T-23rd)
    Hits: 913 (27th)
    Runs 444 (27th)
    ER: 409 (T-24th)
    HR: 111 (22nd)
    BB: 225 (1st)
    K's: 780 (10th)
    WP%: .536 (14th)

Summary: You will see that I definitely don't own the market in many categories. In fact I am mid-pack or less in a majority of categories, which just goes to show that I make the best of opportunities when they arise! This was the first time I have looked at errors and was surprised that I am dead-last. This might warrant a slider adjustment. They are also a few categories that I feel that I am just working my @$$ off for, and yet they fall into middle of the pack for league stats. I will be interested to compare my league totals to reality when all is said and done.

Pitching is what it is. The teams hit you hard on legend on the lack of complete games (though the league leader has only three) and shutouts is indicative that the CPU is not ever going to let down it's guard. My ERA and hits allowed totals have actually really jumped in the last month or so as I have really improved in pitching strategy and bullpen usage. Used to be in the dumps in ALL of these, so these are actually on the climb.

Here are some player stats to wrap up. I feel really good about these numbers in general, especially the HR totals. You won't find any record-breakers on this squad! Solid squad though. Looking forward the the playoff run.

Love the numbers. I'm really loving the way these play too. I get destroyed by CPU hitters. Nothing too crazy but my era is like 4.50 after 13 games. I do have one question though. Again, I'm early in the season. I have noticed 1 of my elite hitters is really struggling. Like hitting .111 or something like that. Outside of him, my other elites are playing like they should. I have a few middle of the road guys that are smacking the leather off the ball (.350+) So my question is will these pretty much balance out as a progress in my season? Thanks for all the hard work and to everyone who has contributed.

Yes, time should balance out some of those hitters. I think every team inexplicably has a guy that is just not quite right. Mine was Starling Marte. He went as low as .198 before finally developing some consistency. I also had guys like Sean Rodriguez and Adam Frazier that came out of the gates on fire and have since dipped into the mid .250’s (Frazier all the way down to .212 before going on the 60-day DL).

The game will balance it out. Just keep swinging.

GREAT stuff and very rare in the slider world. I'm used to coming out of the gate hitting .400 as a team and maybe coming down to .350. Or either barely hitting .200 and staying there, depending on which set I'm testing. This feels awesome.

So I have played 9 games with contact at 7, power at 4 and timing at 6. I know I was going to post after 10 but the last game isn’t going to make a difference. I don’t know if it’s just a slump or what. I noticed I have lost some power and I am not getting on increase in hits.

            Avg: .193
            BABIP: .236
            HR: 7 (0.8 per game)
            Hits: 58 (6.4 per game)
            Singles: 36 (62.1%)
            Doubles: 14 (24.1%)
            Triples: 1 (1.7%)
            HR: 7 (12.1%)
            Strikeouts: 81 (9 per game)

I think my home run Distribution percentage is actually good but I just need more hits and that will bring more home runs hopefully. Where should I go from here?

So your hit distribution is really good right now. Really I think that if you would just start hitting the ball better, you would really be in good shape. Did you increase the timing?

I raised it to 6 when I started the 10 games. Some of it I feel like I hit the ball good and it is right at the fielders. It’s like the cpu always knows where to be at.

Yes, it’s the benefit of being a CPU

How about your fielder settings? Does everything match up to the OP settings?

It just sounds like a horrible run of bad luck. Typically when I have times where I feel like everything is right at a fielder, I eventually break out of it in a big way and those hits start dropping.

Still feels like there is a piece missing here...you are using zone hitting, correct?

Yeah everything is the same for fielding settings, errors and throwing arms. The only thing I changed is the pitch speeds. I have speeds at 4/5 and then went to 4/4 but I was too early on breaking balls so I moved it to 4/5. It might be in my head but it seems like I can’t recognize the fastball quick enough.

I am using zone. I also use quick counts.

For the 12 games on the new setting I’m batting .206 with a BABIP of .247. I have lost 5 out of my last 6 and 8 of my last 11 to fall 25-23 on the year. I had enough and fired hitting coach Chili Davis and brought in a guy that has a A grade. Maddon might be next to go or I start playing on All Star or Hall of Fame cause this isn’t fun anymore. When I do have a good times hit it always always always goes right to a fielder. Or it hangs up just enough to have the outfielder get it. And they come up and that exact same hit is a double. I do not know where to go from here. I’m back on mlb the show 15 view.

Yeah, this is a pretty severe case! You could always raise up close tact a bit more. It almost sounds like you need a new team!

I had forgotten that I fired my hitting and pitching coaches in my season...it DID make a difference.

I’m going to raise contact to 9, power at 4 and timing at 5 and see what it does. It will be either this or lowering to to Hall of Fame. But I don’t know what these sliders will do with Hall of Fame.

I'm not sure if this is a slider problem, a flaw in the game, or just user error, but do you guys ever have a fully warm reliever enter the game with only 2/3 of his stamina, even though they should have full stamina? I would understand if this happened if I left the reliever warming up for multiple innings, but this is happening if I warm him up mid-inning and put him in the game when he's warm. I apologize if this isn't the proper thread but I'm at a loss. Any thoughts?

I do have an HOF set in the vault as well if you want to try them

I would understand if this happened if I left the reliever warming up for multiple innings, but this is happening if I warm him up mid-inning and put him in the game when he's warm. I apologize if this isn't the proper thread but I'm at a loss. Any thoughts?
I think stamina is related to confidence as well, so I have had some guys come in with low confidence that have lower stamina as well and proceed to get hammered.
