I tried this a few times last game and I have an observation. It seemed to me that holding L1 (even without a release) would give my runners better jumps, near perfect in fact. I say this because on two occasions I went to steal and was waiting to release L1 when I saw the pitcher go to the plate. For whatever reason I was very slow in my recognition and did not release it as quickly as I would have liked. However, my runners still took off. I noticed that they broke even BEFORE I let off L1.



I know when using L2 for this break that if you release it before the pitcher goes to the plate and the pitcher will just step off the rubber and you'll be dead meat as you've just taken off. I wonder, does the same thing happen with L1? Meaning, if you release it well before the pitcher goes to the plate, does the runner just take off?

I’ve been picked off many times by releasing L1 too early so I believe you do have to time it just right.

Have you had any success stealing with guys who are below average base stealers using this?
For example I've got guys like Belt and Crawford who are slow but every year they will still swipe a few bags and catch a team off guard. I've just resigned to having them steal zero in my franchise. But I'd like to have this in my back pocket if it can work.

And this is where you are making a mistake. His franchise universe is nit real life. Even though he want ultra realism....what is the fun in that when you have Giles sucking *** in his universe, the Jays move him for a very good young SS prospect and then he can flip that SS for the Jays for a good young pitching prospect.

To me I always say....it’s your universe, your storylines.

100% agree with this! This is the whole point of playing MLB the show. You make YOUR franchise your own. Would it happen in RL? Maybe, maybe not. That's not the point and shouldn't even be considered in the equation. Trying to be fair for both parties is one thing. But trying to base it off real life is another.

Referencing the many stealing posts...how would anybody ever know to use L1 that way, wow. I am a little hesitant to become better at baserunning. I am really loving the feeling of being terrified to attempt stealing a base. Playing as the Orioles, every stinking baserunner counts and I just hate taking any risk unless I have to. Even just trying to mix it up and making something happen is attempted with caution.

Or maybe I'm just playing with the spirit of Earl Weaver in me!

No you're not doing it wrong. With that button sequence you are sending the runner on the pitcher's first move.

Press L2 to pre load the steal.

Once the pitcher comes set press and hold L1.

Release on the pitchers first move to home.

If you release it early he will take off and most likely the pitcher will get you in a rundown.

I just had the most immaculate offensive FIRST inning

8 runs. 7 hits. 5 homeruns. Lead off the game back to back to back. Jose Ramirez hit 2 HRa in the first inning

Looking for input just for the sake of a fun discussion. I need a backup catcher, Aramis Garcia is not cutting it and Joey Bart is not quite ready but is playing well at AA. The Twins have Austidillo on the block and the Padres have Austin Allen. Both teams will accept a similar package. Who do you guys like and why?

Austidillo because he proves you can just eat snacks and be physically inactive and still play in the MLB.

Also he’s a catcher that can play literally almost every other position. He’s a utility man/catcher. How cool is that?!

This is actually realistic tho. I think tha problem is irl tha catcher tags tha guy out rather than throwing to first every time

True.. wish they’d just tag the guy then. I get on a lot of a dropped third strike.
