How to bring save numbers down for pitchers in franchise mode?

No matter what slider set and/or roster I try, save numbers are always super inflated. I see numerous guys with over 40 saves and several with over 50. I've even seen some guys hit 60 saves. Last year, in real life, only one guy had over 40 saves and only 9 had 30 or more. Is there any way I can bring those numbers down to be at least a bit more realistic? I'm able to get every other stat to a fairly realistic point besides this one.

You can see the save stats for the 2019 season here: https://www.foxsports.com/mlb/stats?...=0&splitType=0

    Thanks.

OK....so last year was a really down year league-wide in terms of save numbers. Just looking at team save numbers (I know you're talking players...bear with me), last year had the lowest average number of team saves in the last 10 years (39). That could be a byproduct of randomness or the higher run scoring environment (i.e. more potential for blowouts?).

If we take sim stats in context with the real life stats, I wouldn't be surprised if the TEAM saves stats are close in-line with real life (I can't check this now). Where I'd suspect the issue occurs, is that in-game, teams tend to grant fewer save opportunities to non-closers than what we see IRL. So, whomever is in the closer role is granted a larger bulk of the opportunities.

The good news AND bad news...there probably isn't anything you can do to fix it.

      Thanks for the response.

You seem to be right about CP being used for saves for almost every opportunity. I simmed a season and Kirby Yates had 50 saves. There were only three other saves distributed among the other Padres. So the Padres had 53 saves, but Yates had nearly every one. If the saves got distributed a bit more, he could have been to a more realistic number like 42. Other teams had similar situations.

It's a shame, but I guess there is no fix. I have every other stat at a good spot, so I guess I'll just have to deal. Hopefully SDS fixes this one day, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't anytime soon. It's not like it is a widespread complaint. Most people probably never notice.

The only "fix" in this scenario is moving pitchers around the bullpen. Could be as simple as swapping closer and the set up man. The question is, how often would you do it, and if its really worth the hassle. More than likely it'd affect the actual closer's morale and bring his OVR down a few points (small potatoes in the big picture, but still something worth considering maybe).

Yeah, I thought of that. I might try it out and see if it is worth the hassle, but it might be way too annoying. I guess I would have to check box scores or check a guy's stamina before a game, and then remove him from the CP role if he pitched a couple games in a row. There's just not a convenient way to do so... I don't believe you can see a guy's stamina or game log from player cards. If you could do that it wouldn't be that hard to do, but it will be very time-consuming the way the game is set up. I just wish they could give us accurate sim stats. I'm not sure why a game that has been around as long as The Show has doesn't have simple stuff like that down by now.

I agree, I wish you could see player stamina through their player card. That would alleviate it so much

What I do, is put SU #1 in Closer Role for
              1st 25-Calendar Days.
Label the SU Man, as a Closer.
Take the real Closer, and label him a Relief Pitcher.
Set him as SU #1, for the 1st 25-Calendar Days.

Now, Starting 26th Calendar Day, put normal Closer back into Closer Role, labeled as a Closer.
And return the SU, Man back to a Relief Pitcher,
and put him in SU, Slot #1.

You can go through your entire franchise and edit every CP to a RP. I did this once and it had some odd effects (closers completely disappeared from the draft) but it seemed like the CPU teams pulled struggling closers out of the role more often. The solid ones still had high numbers, but most teams had at least 2-3 guys with 7+ saves and a couple teams had multiple 20+ guys. It's a bit extreme with no guarantees, but it's an idea.
