Do you use real players or fictional players?
Which do you use, and why?48Real Rosters0%36Fictional Rosters0%12Baseball Community Manager for OOTP Developments - http://www.OOTPDevelopments.com

Re: Do you use real players or fictional players?
I generally use fictional players. While I do enjoy the occasional MLB save, it isn't my preference for a couple of reasons.
1. The MLB in general is a little too clunky for me. A lot of teams, players, minors, history, etc.
2. It feels weird to use different rules or schedules for the MLB, so I build fictional leagues with the rules tailored my my liking.
3. You are able to build backstory and you get oddly.. attached to these fake players. Also, I don't have to worry about the ratings or performance of some of my favorite real players.Moderator

Re: Do you use real players or fictional players?
No option for both? It depends on what I feel like doing. I have done mostly fictional before, but I am doing an expansion team in the real MLB universe right now and enjoying it pretty thoroughly.
Fictional is nice because I get to use some really nice logo/uniform sets and also there's the surprise of seeing which players are the great players. Especially when doing stats only where you can't tell which players are the best just by clicking on them. Another bonus to fictional is that you don't get offended when the cpu makes a 'lopsided' trade because you have much less context/name value for predicting how the deal will turn out.
MLB is nice because everything is ready to go and you don't get lost in the options of creating. It's also fun to see how the future (or past) might turn out for certain players.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: Do you use real players or fictional players?
I generally use fictional. Mainly to allow immersion into the game without disappointment when "real" players don't perform to what you think or over perform. Also trades sometimes can be a bit "WTF" sometimes
With fictional, it is whatever you want to make it or believe and can truly play out your baseball universe in your own mind without obstacles

Re: Do you use real players or fictional players?
Fictional for me.
i enjoy starting with a clean slate. plus i don't want my favorite players and or teams clouding my judgement on trades and the like. i usually do all new teams & logos so it doesn't make it seem like its MLB. i want it to be a truly unique experience.
at some point i would like to go back and do a league from the 60's or 70's but for now i'll stick with fictional.Comment

Re: Do you use real players or fictional players?
I use fictional for the reasons others have stated, been going for several versions with the same league.
I wish console sports games had options to play fictional leagues.
btw that's virtual me in my OOTP uniform, just happens to bear a striking resemblance to real life me which is why I love using it here.Last edited by voodoo_magic; 01-20-2016, 01:17 AM.Comment

I prefer fictional as well and it may be simply because I follow the real leagues enough, so why not have my own fictional universe?
As KGHerm stated, it's an odd comment to make, but I find myself becoming attached to these fake players. There's more invested because we're the ones drafting, grooming and preparing them for their careers while with real players, they're fate is pretty much already decided.
The mystery of what they'll become is a lot more intriguing.Last edited by Money99; 01-20-2016, 12:30 PM.Comment

I use real leagues/players when playing OOTP 16. When playing mobile, I play with a fictional league. Not sure why, but that's how it is.Comment

Re: Do you use real players or fictional players?
I've done both but always find myself much more immersed in fictional. I like building up a history that is uniquely mine and like has been said above, you get really attached to these fake guys.
My current league is a 30 team league, 6 divisions, 5 per, but no AL/NL. It's all one league. The league is called the Great Lakes Baseball League and all teams are within a 6 hour drive or less from a great lake.
The league spreads from Minneapolis in the West to Thunder Bay in the north to Montreal in the east and Cincinnati in the south.
I'll eventually expand to Des Moines, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Louisville and add second teams in Chicago and Toronto I think.
edit: Actually, Philly is within a 6 hour drive to a Great Lake and KC isn't, so I'll have to look at that. Actually so is New York. Interesting.Comment

Fictional for me. I really enjoy the customization options at my disposal, from financials to stadiums. I have a hard time playing with real players because I tend to get "attached" to names, which can lead to bad things (contracts, etc.).Comment
