OOTP 18: An Example Historical Sim and Some Thoughts on The Possibilities

Out of the Park Baseball is one of my favorite series in Sports Gaming. I'm a baseball stat head, business nut, and I love the history of the game. Those three things combine in OOTP 18 for a playground of endless possibilities.

As one example, I am going to take the Major Leagues from 1925 in this video and we are going to simulate an entire season as if the game were in 2016. Managers will manage to 2016's tendencies, stats will accrue to fit closer to the modern era, and more. This is just one of endless examples of things we can do with OOTP Baseball.

We wrote a piece on this year's game and recommended it highly, if you are interested in the GM aspects of baseball or playing in a statistical playground, then you should definitely check OOTP 18 out.

In regards to Babe Ruth and Hornsby (those were the only two I checked), those stats that were simmed here are almost identical to their actual 1925 stats.

Is that supposed to happen? Or was it just a happy accident due to it only being one sim?

Ruth only played 98 games in 1925 due to an ulcer. Hornsby won the Triple Crown.

Maybe I need to pick up this game, because now I'm interested in simming this identically 5-10 times to see if the same things happen. I'd love to see a 1925 season where Ruth isn't laying in bed with an ulcer for two months of the season.

I'd also like to see an entire Babe Ruth career sim where he 1) isn't a pitcher ever and 2) isn't a fat slob who missed 50 games worth of HRs in 1925.
