I'm finishing up a roster, updated. The only problem is you can't adjust rosters with the game, save it for exhibition, and then use it in season/franchise. You must make all transactions AFTER you start your season/franchise. That's bad, but.....
I've created the Washington Admirals and transferred all Nationals players onto that team. That's the team you'd have to play with if interested. The Expos are still in the game. The CPU created another team (the name escapes me at the moment) and I filled that team/the Expos with fake/retired/whatever, players.
This game needs tweaks badly and they are included in the roster. For example, the runners speeds are all off and doubles off the walls, even in the deepest parts of the stadiums, wind up singles. That has been solved, among other tweaks.
It plays a really, really good game of ball, great graphics and animations, great announcing.Comment

You making a 2006 roster update and tweaks? (the game has sliders or just options), thats cool. I am getting this game because i always heard good things about it and i never got around to actually get one.
So now that i am waiting for MLB 06:THE SHOW, i want a game to hold me over until that and i looked back and realize i have played all series in baseball games except ASB series.
so i looked for the last one ever made, since that would be the overall better one in terms of package and i found it for about 5 bucks in some store here in NYC. Will pick it up next week(wednesday or thursday).
Didnt OS do a PREVIEW/REVIEW for it and have a fact sheet, screens for it ect.. like they do for other games?, is it possible to get a hold of that now?.Last edited by JOEdellis; 01-14-2006, 02:25 PM.Comment

Originally posted by e0820Great game, love the expansion mode. Not sure what your looking for in the game (sim or arcade), I would say its more sim then arcade. The game does have bugs like any other game, but they are not too bad. They do alot of little things like K signs being put up, the expansion teams have different logos and stadiums to choose from, you can play 1 position and let the cpu or friends play the other positions. I am pretty sure once you reach certain years - teams will get new stadiums (cant confirm, just heard it somewhere). I played a full season straight through, 1 pitch makes the games go by much faster.
Cool thanks for that info, glad it is more SIM. thats what i am looking for.Comment

Re: I am getting ASB 05 next week. Get me hype for it, what can i expect.
Joe,
The kind of stuff it needed was stuff like waaaaaaaaaaay to many players had a speed rating of D, D-, etc. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay to many. As a result you would see runners not try to go to second base on a ball of the wall, even deep left/right center. They would stay at first. You would see many runners on third not tag up on an obvious sac fly.
Also too many outfielders (Brian Buchanan) comes to mind, had RANGE ratings of A, A+. They would get to EVERYTHING and way to many outfielders with ARM STRENGTHS of A, A+. These had to be tweaked down or up.
Knight, who frequents the boards, did a lot of tweaking. After the tweaks the game played a solid game of ball.Comment

It has been a while, but from what I remember:
Positives:
Great atmosphere & great details. Stadiums scoreboards not only work, they actually update the out of town scores as well. You'll also see imitations of landmarks and signs such as the Citgo sign at Fenway.
The announcing feels pretty realistic. Amongst the best I have seen in many sports games.
Great unlockable stadiums.
Many options for generated pitch counts. I eventually settled on starting every at bat with a 2-1 count. It sped up games and allowed my to play 162 games, but still allowed room for strategy such as bunting and stealing.
Negatives- Sometimes glitchy. Balls appear to landing 5 feet a way from a fielder and are suddenly sucked into the glove for an out.
There are a couple different batting modes, but they all seem to have issues. Some are too easy, and the 2D cursor that I settled on often felt random.
No option for shorter season in franshicse....only 162 games.
Good game. I definately had some frustrating times with it, but had some fun times as well. For $5, you should get your moneys worth.Comment

I liked the expansion modes in the ASB games, but that's about the only reason for me to go back to them instead of the new games. I think the new games, no matter which company you go with, offer plenty more new innovations since ASB went away. Expansion mode was awesome though.
Atlanta Braves - Auburn Tigers - Nashville Predators
